  1. Maybe I should start out being a solid five foot putter
  2. Could you explain that part please? Thanks for the response. Should I take a putting lesson from a different pro if I didn't like what the first one taught me? How do you practice at home? Just taking practice strokes? Could you explain some of those fundamentals? or possibly link a youtube video or something? All I know is to hit the ball on the flat part towards the hole so don't think anything in regards to putting is below me. Thanks
  3. I just started playing this year (other than 2-3 trips to the range last year) but I have taken several lessons and based on my recent scores I would say I am a 20-25 handicap where I stand right now. The real problem is that I'm getting on the green with mostly par and birdie putts from reasonable distances but end up 2 and 3 putting sometimes because I really have NO idea what I'm doing when I get to that point. I realize that this is a pretty massive issue considering it might be the most important part of golf but I'm pretty frustrated at the same time. I asked my pro to teach me how to putt but it just didn't feel right to me. I spent a few hours at the putting green today but I feel it is kind of a waste of time because I'm just doing things my way (which doesn't work) and its pretty obvious I'm lost out there. So basically what I'm asking for is ANYTHING to help me get better at dropping that little white ball in the little circle with a flat metal stick. Thanks in advance.
  4. Can you give me an example of "hitting down" on the ball? Thanks How can you tell if your wedges need to be replaced? I doubt mine do, they are only about 2 months old. I don't need a huge amount of spin, just a little more preferably. Say the pin is at the front of the green, even if I chipped it to the first cm of the green (the minimum distance), it would roll right past the flag... What if I was able to get nicer balls but not a different club? Would that help at least a little? Most of the time you are right, the ball can just be rolled right up to the pin. However, what do I do for the times that is not possible? (Like the scenario I made above) Please explain. I'm a newbie hear so what does a "little bump and run mean"? Again, the scenario I made above. I'm say 10 yards from the green and the pin is at the front. Even if I chip it the minimum distance, on the first cm of the green, my ball just rolls right past the pin... Thanks all for the responses. I got lots of variety in them so I'm still kinda confused
  5. This is my first year playing this wonderful game but one thing I am having a lot of trouble with is getting my chips to stay on the green or near the hole. I am using a TM R7 SW with a steel shaft. When I hit my irons onto the green it seems to stay pretty close to where it lands, but when I chip on with my SW, it just keeps on rolling.....For now I'm also using cheap maxfli practice balls. Is that the problem? Or is it my swing? I think I've been taught correctly; feet close together, weight on front foot, ball near back foot, no wrist hinge, consistent smooth swing. I've gotten better at aiming but its impossible to chip when the pin is on the front of the green because they just keep rolling right past it. Please help! Thanks!
  6. Thanks for replying on both sites fourputt! haha but I actually appreciate it. I understand what you are saying, I'm just horrible at judging the distance to the hole even with the markers on the course. I'm glad I didn't waste the 20 dollars on one of these pieces of junk. Youngskip, how do you "pace off" the distance from the nearest marker? Do you just know how long one of your strides is?
  7. Yea I'm getting the sense that the 20 dollar one is worthless. I guess its time to save up
  8. Yea i dont have the 200 dollars lying around to spend on one of these things. Thats why the 20 dollar ones caught my attention. Do you have any idea how those work? Thanks, the noob in me really appreciates it
  9. Wait so the second one is better even though its the same price? Whats the difference between that one and the 300 dollar ones? thanks EDIT: Just realized that it was just a case for one of the expensive ones. Whoops. Are the first ones hard to use? How long would you say it takes?
  10. So its basically just a pair of binoculars? How does that help you judge the distance? I'm very confused
  11. One of my main weaknesses in golf is identifying distances left to the hole and thus I have no idea what club to use. One of my buddy recommended "golf binoculars", so I looked it up. A few came up from Dicks: http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/pr...ductId=2509359 http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/pr...ductId=3468474 Those two are pretty cheap. Do these work? How do these work? For some reason those two are like 20 bucks while the others are at least 200. Whats the difference? I'm totally lost but I feel like this would be a great thing to have. Sorry for asking so many questions lately but after this I've got my entire bag figured out including drivers, woods, hybrids, irons, wedges, putters, balls, shoes, the bag, gloves, and these silly binoculars. Thanks in advance
  12. Thanks for the responses guys. Sorry I didn't read them earlier, I did not get an email notification. Deafheaven, I was not aware that was how you decided what type of putter to get. That was very helpful. Again, thank you all.
  13. I've really improved all areas of my game and have the rest of my clubs figured out, but I still feel like a newbie once I get onto the green. I am using a Top Flite PS-01 putter that I got for free at a party years ago but I feel like its not for me. Obviously, putting is all about practice and I've been practicing a lot lately, but I could use a little help as well. What are the differences between different putters and what would you guys recommend? Money isn't a huge issue but of course, the cheaper the better. Thanks in advance.
  14. I hear ya. I appreciate your opinion as I'm new to the whole golf ball market. But as I said before, I cant get the TM reds with my gift card so are there any other TMs you would buy before the One Tours?
  15. Thanks for the input, although you seem to be alone in this opinion. Have you also hit with the nikes? Unfortunately, I have a gift card to dicks and they don't sell those there. I've heard lots of good things about them though. Thanks for the suggestion. Yep, they have the same deal at Dick's which is why I was curious about them. It seems like a good deal. While you mentioned it though, I haven't ever played with nice balls (I always use balls people left on the course ) so what is the difference between the One Tour and the One Tour D? Thanks for your opinion between the two, thats what it seems everyone is saying. By any chance could you link me to an example of the Bridgestones? I'm not exactly sure which ones you are talking about and I don't want to buy the wrong ones haha. Are the nikes not worth 6 dollars more for 2 dozen? (60 dollars for 2 dozen at dicks). Hopefully I can try them one day though, even though that day isn't today Even though its been a while, do you still prefer those TM reds to the Nikes if they were the same price? Thanks everyone for the responses, its been a big help!
