All very good points. I actually purchased the first one used on Craigslist so i wasn't shocked about that one but the Ping I purchased used from Golfmart. The storage part is something that I definitely need to examine. Now that I think about it, before i went this last time i had my clubs in my backseat for a solid week and a half. It's not super hot here but i imagine it can get pretty hot in my car. Man now i feel a little stupid . . . do you think the heat has this large of an effect?

So I'm a novice player but I'm not terrible. I actually picked up the game about a year and a half ago. I started off with a MacGregor driver that I actually hit pretty well. One day at the range I was about to hit with my driver and I was taking off the head cover when i heard a small crunch-like noise . . . i pulled the head cover off and the driver head came with it. I chalked it up to a cheap driver and went to purchase a Ping G10. Well i hit that for about 6 months and just this weekend I was on the tee waiting to tee-off with some friends. The same exact thing that happened at the range happened again! So obviously the problem is me . . . has anyone experienced this before? By the way . . . i don't ever make contact with the ground with my driver so it's not that i beat it up.

So I’ve been getting golf lessons for about 3 months now and we’re starting to concentrate on putting a lot more. My golf instructor has had me adopt a style of putting that mimics a regular swing. Basically its the swing-in-an-arc approach to putting with and open then closed club face. I’m having a very difficult time with this approach and I’m a little torn on what to do. It feels very unnatural and I almost feel like I am hitting the ball blindly to the hole. I’m curious as to what you opinion on putting techniques. To me putting is something that should come natural and feel natural however a basic golf swing is unnatural so I’m torn on which direction to go. Do I stick with the approach I’m being taught and “get used” to it or should I experiment with other techniques to find something that feels natural? I actually love the claw-grip approach to putting however I’ve read and have been told that it’s a very inconsistent way to putt. Reply with your opinion!

well i went out and played with it and i have to say i'm glad that I broke it. This was by far my best day at the range just because i focused so much on my grip. I used an overlapping grip with minimum grip pressure and it improved my ball striking tremendously!

Yeah it's a beginner's class but i'm not sure if we're starting out w/the short game or not. I usually use the interlocking grip just because i have pretty small hands but i guess this will give me the opportunity to try out the overlapping grip. I was thinking that it might actually help me w/working my hands too but we'll see.

I'm a right handed golfer and just found out that i have a broken right pinky. I'm currently enrolled in a golf class at my university that is just starting today. I'm curious, has anyone ever tried to play with this injury? do you think it's worth a try or do you think it will mess up my game since i'm just starting out? any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Harsh but I agree. I'm definitely going to pick up that book now because i've had a few people tell me to read it. I've actually stocked my entire bag for under $200 just by bargain shopping. I'm getting ready to take a beginner's class at my university so I've held off on the lessons; i just caught the bug and couldn't wait to start going to the range. Thank you for the advice though and i'm thinking i will get some private lessons after i take my class.

I'm just starting out, i've been going to the range a couple times a week for the last 4 or 5 weeks and I'm still very inconsistent. I feel like my trouble is with my grip. I've tried all different types of ways to grip the club and nothing feels comfortable. It is kind of hard to explain but my right hand always ends up too much underneath the club. Does anyone have any routines or special ways to know you have a good grip? or can you point me to a video or existing thread because i know it is a tough thing to describe. Thank You!

I'm just starting out and I purchased a couple of Cleveland wedges and I love them. I feel like i hit very well with them even though i'm a beginner.

Well i've only had a chance to hit them once and they are a little hard to get used to because the heads are smaller than i'm used to. I don't really hit them well enough yet to see if they fit the gaps.

I'm very new to the game and i've been going to the driving range at least twice a week for the last 3 or 4 weeks. Just from surfing around on the internet and reading articles everywhere i've kinda gotten the point that good iron play is usually the best thing to learn first. I'm actually hitting my irons pretty good but not too consistant. However i'm pretty terrible w/my driver and woods/hybrid. My question is should i continue w/my irons in order to get more consistant or should i really start to work w/my other clubs? How do you mix it up when at the range? do you have any drills or routines that would help me out?

Alright well i just made another purchase. I feel like i'm getting pretty cheap but I found a strong 3 wood and 7 wood at a yard sale for $10 for both. They are the Titleist 975f model in great condition. Any opinions on these clubs?

Well the way i'm building my bag i'm trying not to spend more on one club than i did for the set of irons, driver,hybrid, and putter which was only $125. so i'm thinking anywhere from $50-$75ish. Honestly right now i suck with the hybrid so i'm working on the irons. I'm thinking for right now I just want to get a 3 wood and maybe a 5 wood or 2/3 hybrid down the line. I've been talking to someone about a Tour Edge Bazooka HL 3 wood that needs to be regripped. He wants $35 for it but i'm sure he'd take less, imo thats a pretty decent deal for now.

Thank you all for the advice. I ended up picking up a CG10 Black Pearl for 30 bucks in pretty good condition. Now on to my next club . . . 3 Wood. Any suggestions? are Tour Edge Bazooka's any good?

I'm pretty decent for a beginner. I love hitting with my pitching wedge. I've been told to get something with a lot of bounce since i'm a novice. The Tom Watson club i'm looking at is 56.16 so its pretty high bounce.

I would like to make it an all-around club. Play it from within 100 yards and out of the sand.

I’m looking to buy my first SW and I can’t decide which direction to go. I don’t want to spend more than $50 at this point because I’m just starting out. My dilemma is whether to buy a cheaper brand new SW, opposed to a used higher end club. Right now I’m looking into purchasing either a brand new Tom Watson wedge/Tour Edge TGS wedge for $40 or a used Cleveland CG10 for the same price. Does anyone have any opinions on buying used wedges? I’ve read that these clubs are usually the ones that get worn down the fastest. Also, any other ideas for a decently priced SW?

So i've decided for now I just want to look into purchasing a hybrid between my driver and 4 utility and a SW for sure, possibly a gap or lob wedge. I haven't really looked into a hybrid yet but i've found some used wedges. I found some Ben Hogan CARNOUSTIE WEDGES, 3 for $100 and a set of Solus wedges for the same price. Does anyone have any opinions on these?

Yeah a buddy of mine recommended that I get one with a lot of "bounce" . . . I've been looking around but I'm a little confused because a lot of wedges don't have the amount of bounce in the specs. Is there a baseline level or should they all have a specified value?

Yeah i think i'm going to add a SW for sure . . . do you have any suggestions on what models might be good for a beginner? Budget isn't that much of an issue but I wouldn't want to spend more on one club than i did for my entire set . . .

I'm 22 years old and i'm taking my first golf class in the next couple of weeks. I've played before but i've never had any lessons and i'm not very good. I've recently been making purchases of equipment to get me started. My bag consists of the following: Macgregor NVG2 Driver Macgregor NVG2 4 Hybrid/Fairway wood Macgregor NVG2 3-PW Yes! Valerie Putter As i said i'm relatively new to the game so I'm not sure what other clubs look into. Do i need a set of wedges or should i just look to purchase one more wedge? Or should I look into a couple more hybrid clubs? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!
