I'll second the Pelican Hill recommendation. I was there about a year ago. Stunningly beautiful property with a stretch of holes on the ocean and some challenging golf. I had to look at a map to see how far it is distance-wise and it's a bit out of your stated range, but if you find yourself a few hours north up in Santa Barbara, Sandpiper is a treat, as is Rancho San Marcos.
