I disagree but that's what makes these boards great. When I was a 26-30 handicap, I hit my 5wood, then 3wood until I felt comfortable and consistant enough to hit driver. I feel playing a couple years with a 3wood off the tee will give you a better appreciation for the game and better scores. To the the last poster, if you're hitting your driver so well, then why are you still a 26 handicap?
-
If you're a 30 handicap, you shouldnt be hitting driver. I would start off with an iron or a hybrid off the tee until you get better. I would also play shorter courses or from shorter tee boxes to make the game more enjoyable until you get your swing in groove...god luck!

Best MUST play cours in Phoenix?
jcard71 replied to jcard71's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
Wanted to give you an update on the courses I played in the Phoenix area... Played We-Ko-Pa and really liked it. Great Layout! Also played Octillio in Chandler because it was close to where I was working and the only way to get in 18 at 4pm. Not a bad course, but didnt really knock my socks off. Troon North was awesome! I played both courses; Monument and Pinnacle. I have a hard time picking out which one is better. I played the GOLD tees on both courses which played around 6750yds. Shot 80 on Pinnacle and 73 on Monument! They have a deal for 36 holes and a NEW free Odyssey White Hot XG7 putter for $150.00! Finally, I never played Gray Hawk and here's why: I called and asked if I could get out between 3:30-4pm and was told I could, but at 7pm someone would come out and make everyone come in and close the course. Needless to say, I said thanks, but NO thanks! -

Question about Multi-confirguation drivers
jcard71 replied to juanrjackson's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I agree that working the driver is not as important as the golf club companies make it out to be and at our level we shouldnt be worried about it, but I personally work my irons depending on pin location...etc. -
Sergio HAS ditched his R9 driver..
jcard71 replied to jcard71's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
i agree 110%!!!! -
I saw highlights of the Euro tour and noticed he is back to playing the Burner driver, last year's model. TM must be pissed... I hit the R9 and thought it felt dead to me. Maybe he should try one of the other 6 models they've out out in two years...

Im heading out to Phoenix and will have the opportunity to play 2 days. Being a lefty, I would like to get over to Phil's place and play GrayHawk. Which two courses should I defintely play? Im not too worried about the cost, since this is my first time out there and I think they should have some good summer rates...

I really liked Legends in Clermont, great deals!
Gained 15 yards are you a 6.5 handicap? What were you playing before?
Im currently a 6.2 I was hitting the R7 425. My ball was very low with the R7 425, I went on a launch monitor and saw an improvement in carry and distance with the Nike DYMO. I hit all the new drivers out there, I just know I found a combo that works well for me.
-
I bought one. I also gained 15 yards with this driver. I'm not changing the configuration, I found a combonation that works. My carry has improved tremendously.
-
I have and Im really considering buying one. Great driver...

Over the winter I had planned on going down to play the TPC. I just called today and they have the following deal. Starting June 9th, you can stay 2 nights, play 3 rounds, with two of those rounds being at the stadium course. My wife is coming with me, but wont be golfing and it would be $805.00 for this special. Considering it's $375.00 to play SAWGRASS, Im thinking I might do it... What do you think of this special? Who here has played it?

In the category of "worst iron ever produced"..
jcard71 replied to Beretta_Shooter's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Sounds like you tried to take "cheap" way out...sorry. I've seen "new" to the game golfers who like to build or tinker build there own clubs, but never a low handicap. I believe that 90% of the time you get what you pay for in this world. -
I played in 2002...it was like a religous experience. I think I paid $150.00 for a round at the time. I gave my name at the starter shack and waited about 1 1/2 and I was on the first tee hitting the most NERVE racking tee shot of my life... Wondering what it cost now?

I go through this every couple years...I hate driver shopping because Im so anal and tend to over analyze things when it comes to getting a driver. I'm usually one of the guys you see selling a driver on EBAY saying, " Only used for three rounds, my loss is your gain.." I've been playing the R7 425 with a STIFF shaft since it came out and it is the BEST driver I've ever owned. That said, I know it's about 4 years old and I'm looking for something NEW. So far of all the drivers I hit, the Titleist D2 10.5 has stood out as the best one for me. I have a very smooth tempo and SS in the mid to upper 90's. A slight pause at the top before my transition.. My best drives are in the 230-240 yds range, but I'm a very straight hitter. Here's my dilema: I went and got on a launch monitor today (I forget the model, but it even had doppler radar) it was not your average launch monitor; it was really impressive. Everything pointed to the Titleist Diamana Blue 65 regular shaft and not the stiff shaft, but Im still having a hard time going back to playing a regular shaft, but I ordered the regular shaft based on the numbers and it also felt really good when I hit it outside, but I seemed to fade it a little bit more than I usually do... I mean my launch angle was below 10 with every single drive when I used my TM R7 425 and improved to 12-14 with the Titleist D2 and regular shaft and increased my carry and total distance. I also improved my smash factor to 1.46, but I forget the spin and other numbers. Anyway, I'm hoping Im making the correct decision with my shaft flex choice. Has anyone else ever gone back to a regular after playing a stiff shaft? I dont really want to loose accuracy, but who doesnt want to hit it a bit further?!?!? I know that every manufacturer is different, but maybe it's just my ego...

I hit it today and was really impressed. Was wondering if anyone else has and what they thought of it?

Where in Boston is the demo day?
-
Thanks for the info, I appreciate it! Do you think the Titleist DEMO road show will have a launch monitor? I love the R7 425, best driver I've hit, but I really want to get a Titleist driver this year.
-
Im waiting for the Titleist road show to come to my local course so I can get fitted, but since I play the R7 425, I'm looking forward to trying the smaller D3. I hit the D2 and really liked it, but would like to hear what you guys think about the two? I did see the review on this site and it was helpful, but would like to hear from other who are already playing these drivers. Why did you pick one over the other?
