  2. Hello all. It's been a while since I visited. You see I was playing frequently and enjoying golf in Austin. But about this time last year I relocated to Denver, and my golf playing habit kind of died. I haven't played much at all in the mile high city. Now that winter has mostly gone, I thought I would pick it back up. Are there some others nearby who want to give some suggestions where I ought to play? I frequent public courses a lot and I'm a little more beginner/intermediate. I don't mind a challenging course though. I also wouldn't mind joining a local association.
  3. I had the rewarding experience of being a mentor at the First Tee here in Austin last spring. One of the core values taught to the young golfers is integrity. What you do when you think no one is watching is such an important part of your character. When I was a kid many of those types of values were taught but not reinforced in tangible ways. What's great about the first tee is those kids leave with a 7 core values that will serve them well their whole lives. And we showed them how those values apply to the game of golf. I like to think it makes the world a little better. Unfortunately some people will only learn the hard way later life and maybe never at all.
  4. I'm in the same exact boat. About 3 years, high handicap. Similar distances too. I've been really frustrated with instructors. Several hundred dollars paid and no real help. Okay, I'll give 1 guy some credit for improving my putting. But my swing has no consistency whatsoever. In fact, as I've improved my knowledge of the mechanics of the swing, its clear I've been given poor advice on numerous occasions (not that I'm the only one who's received bad advice). I've decided that I can't rely on feel alone to figure out this golf swing. I'm taking video of my swing now. Its incredible how you can think you are doing one thing but in reality you are awkward as hell. I've observed several problems with my rhythm I can work on as well as stance, head, arm and wrist positions. Honestly some of these problems are fundamental enough they should have been pointed out to me by one of these pros I was paying. I tried out some changes last week with the driver and felt a difference in power and even a greater % of straight shots. I'll likely shoot some more video this week. I don't know if I'm qualified to recommend video yet as I'm still waiting for the benefits, but it's nice to have a new tool to try. I'm a visual person, so having a picture to look at helps me get a sense of what to do to fix it.
  5. I'd love to hear how more people warm up before their round. I don't know that I have an effective routine yet. I usually swing at the ground a few times with any club to get my tempo in check. After that I hit in order a p-wedge, a 7-iron, a hybrid and then my 3 wood. Each a few times. My biggest problem is I usually run out of time and neglect to get some putting strokes in. That always hurts me.
