  1. You know.....looking at your username Ernest Jones... Jones was never an advocate of oversized grips. Always recommended that you use a grip as thin as you can tolerate but not so thin that yo feel like you have no contact or control with it!!! But back to your question...I have not used these or know anyone that has. I would imagine that it would be hard to release the club with them....good luck
  2. Hey SAgolfer.....thanks so much for taking the time to write this awesome review and advice.....I really appreciate it! I am going to look into a full set....thanks again and happy holidays!
  3. No one ever hit these irons....wow would have figured someone would have hit these..
  4. Anyone have any experience hitting the Nippon steel shafts on their clubs? I have always played graphite shafts in my irons and woods. But have hit a few steel shafted clubs recently and notice that I have been sacrificing a ton of accuracy. I probably get more distance with the graphite. The other thing I was wondering about is how the Nippons stack up with graphite in terms of shock absorption. I know the graphite shafts have the edge there....but have heard that some of the newer tech steel shafts are getting better at not stinging your hands on every swing! Thanks
  5. Has anyone hit these? or are you still bagging them? I was just curious as to how people liked them. I was able to hit their demo 6 iron at one point and seemed alot like the original wide sole fusions. How do they compare forgiveness wise to the Cleveland HB3's? Distance? Forgiveness? Thanks for any feedback you can provide.....
  6. I would nominate the Cleveland Monster xls driver. Incredibly long and very forgiving. I have been hitting the Diablo edge and just can not get comfortable with it. It is relatively forgiving, but I just can't get the distance out of it that I get from my Monster or even the old G5........Hit a friend's Wilson Smooth recently....that is a nice, simple looking driver and it is both forgiving and long in my hits with it! It can also be had for a song these days. Good luck
  7. Wait for them to come out on Ebay???? I am wanting to buy a set of mint or NEW Cleveland HB3 irons left handed. I have been religiously checking ebay and other sites but these don't seem to be popping up very much. Either people are hanging on to them, or they are just downright rare!!! These are also holding VERY STRONG at 699.00 for the graphite shafts (which is what I am after) at all the major retailers. Not sure when they will come down in price....or by how much! Anyways, one online vendor (well known but won't post name) is offering 100.00 off coupon......+ free shipping....and if you put everything on their credit card....interest is deferred for 12 months and have to just pay minimum payment. Only other real negative is they charge sales tax. If I go through ebay, will probably be awhile before a new or mint set becomes available, won't pay sales tax but will have to do shipping charges.....and I have no idea about whether iron is legit or not......plus I would imagine that the bidding will be pretty popular on these so may not get them anyways!!!! What would you do? it works out to 699 - 100.00=599.00 + 39.00 sales tax!!! Need your help in deciding here!!
  8. In all seriousness, have you ever HIT their fat shaft clubs? Go out and hit a set of D111 (or Di9) irons and tell us what you think before you throw rocks at them. IF you want a set of irons that go DEAD straight where you are aiming then the Di9/Di11 will accomplish that for you. Talk about ULTRA forgiving and nice feeling......Maltby really missed the ball on this one. Now if you want to work the ball HARD (so to speak as you can manage mild fades and draws with the Di9/11's.....these may not be what you wantt.....YOU really low HC's may look down your nose at the Fat shaft technology.......but in the words of Rocco Mediate......"I'll take all the forgiveness I can get!" (Plays the x20's last I checked!!!)
  9. Your friends (with no disrespect meant) are VERY IGNORANT!!!! Wilson is HUGE overseas.....but for some unknown reason does not get that much respect over here in the U.S.! I am not sure why that is because they make VERY well made and high technological equipment.....but still...like Rodney Dangerfield....get NO respect!!! The good golfers and equip guys will tell you that Wilson is right up there with Ping, Taylor, and Cally in regards to quality and technological edge......just get overlooked here in the US......give one of their sets a try....you will NOT be disappointed!!
  10. Thanks Mr. Desmond........it seems from most reviews that I read that the wide sole fusions did not dig in much at all unless you really screwed up with your swing (which lord only knows I can do!).......What made you give them up/stop playing them? How did you like the feel of them at impact? Lastly, guessing that when you say "later model fusions"....you are referring to FTibrids (or something like that?)......those were pretty funky!!!! thanks again for your great reply
  11. Thanks alot for the detailed answer on this!.....and it is really relative to my situation in alot of ways because of the injury factor. Good luck with your game and hope you stay as healthy as possible!!!!
  12. Hey Chris......hope you are back playing now and without too much pain. Out of curiosity when you did get back, and played with the Cally Fusions.....were you struggling to hit ANYTHING at that point and just gave up the clubs for that reason....or just gave them up because you couldn't hit that particular iron? Reason I ask that, is that when I first started to swing again....it was not pretty. You could have given me a club that had a face the size of the titanic, but very lightweight and I could have done nothing with it. I am now starting to swing better and hit the clubs pretty well. I have hit the fusion wide soles and liked them alot. Very forgiving and overall nice feel at impact. Have also hit the HB3's a few times......they are pretty nice as far as forgiveness overall....distance was a little short I felt....but again, am just starting back. I have heard that Callaway shafts are getting alot of criticism lately as far as quality and actually being at the flex range they are supposed to be,.....especially graphite of course....but that is not from experience, just from heresay.......thanks again for the replies!
  13. Which of these 3 irons do you like best for a 45 y/o, 15 handicapper coming back from a shoulder injury!!!???? I have been cleared to resume playing. MD thinks it is best if I tee up any shots that are in deep grass.....and try to choose a club that doesn't dig in much if any!! I just found this site but think you all provide some great feedback and opinions from what I have been reading.......please help me out on this situation! Thanks!!!
