Wanna help another beginner chose his clubs?
Sai-Jin replied to gurdesh's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I use Taylormade Woods and Mizuno Muscle Back blades only. They are some of the best in the market and lower handicappers like them I find. But you should just go with the ones you like in terms of feel and visual. This will give you more confidence when you look at the club heads as well as how they feel when on impact. Only you can decide that. The fitting will be for your current swing to determine what shaft you need. Believe it or not... shaft is very important. So get those lessons and swing analysis and try out different brand clubs and pick the club head you like and stick the shaft recommended by the fitter. As your swing gets better and more solid, then you can get fitted again for the shaft. But I would think maybe it'll be a long while before you get a new shaft. -
I'm a very athletic and muscular person, but when I first started playing gold, my lower legs and left hips gets tired starting the 14th hole. Now I'm getting used to that course and I manage to manage my fatigue... However, today I tried a course where the rating was 75 from the blacks and it requires me to swing full power with my driver to get into the fairway all the time. I lost feel on my knees and lower legs and hips after the 10th and I ended up using more arms. So yes, hips and legs need more stamina for me.

I think you should just go for the nicer set and get fitted for your shaft. If you are beginners and you aren't swinging hard, perhaps get a regular shaft. At least when you need to change, all you change is just the shafts and you still keep the club heads. New clubs = getting used to it and your swing may detoriate for a while. -
Erik, I can't seem to keep my head behind the ball further. It still moved and I can't seem to get to that perfect impact position and posture... The videos I showed you in this thread is the best I have been in so far. This is frustrating! Can you give me an advice?

From what I have been reading for the past many months, no, you won't get your item So don't buy it.

WHen you swing back, your body weight moved towards the target. When you swing down, your body weight moved back. I think that you are swaying all over the place. I'm sure that some ppl more experienced than me can give you some tips.

GARH! I tried that reverse C and try to make my head stay 100%.... all shots = fat And if I straighten my legs more, I top the ball.

Oh really? You think I'm almost there? That's nice to know. in about 3 weeks time ( end of month ish) will be my 1st year anniversary playing golf, so I definitely would like to have this under the belt. Yes, I think it makes sense... problem is finding the right trigger for me. whenever I try to have my head back like that and my body bowed, I ended up hitting it extremely fat and not even hitting the ball. Actually Erik told me the same thing about straightening my right leg more too. I can't wait for Erik's opinion on my driver swing... it "feels" as if my head is still moving forward, just not as much as a few days ago when he gave me the first diagnostics. Oh, once I get a clearer picture with my driving and it gets a lot better, my next project is my irons, so I'll post those when I'm ready to move on to it.

1. Unfortunately, I can only borrow my friend's iPhone V1 to capture this =\ .. I'm rather poor 2. Hmmm honestly, all I was trying to do is keep my head at the same position. I didn't think of my hips, rather try to use my left leg to power the swing. And as you said, I have been using too much upper body =\ and I'm trying to rid of that. 3. Yes, I noticed that back swing over parallel... I'm quite flexible and that felt as if I didn't do enough of a back swing... will work on that later. Right now just want to focus on keeping head on position and rotating with my hips on follow through as Iacas advised me in my hip slide vs hip bump thread. Oh, if one day I manage to get more lag, is the distance going to be a big difference or is it going to be just like 10-15 yds? Thanks again for the tips PS: Nevets, oh, ok... I'll take some DL as well next time.

Oh, so it wasn't a sonic boom that I created to cause the rope to move? j/k

Hello Erik, I came back from the course and hit the range after. I've been hitting most of my fairway shots and with a lot of straight and draw shots too. I noticed that I barely touch my mid irons and only used my Hybrids on par 5s or Wedges on Par 4s after the tee shots. But I have been using my arms to swing though as I was told. But here are 7 Videos of my swing which I tried to keep my head at the same place plus tried to power my left leg. I also changed the way my hand / shaft position is to the ball starting the final 3 videos. Here they are and I appreciate it. I think that the final 3 videos are my best swing as the ball flight seems best too. Note: I noticed that I tend to "lift" my arms up on follow through causing me to very slightly chicken wing? Or am I wrong? I've been trying to rotate through with left biceps attached to side... PS: I can't stop the frame to see if I still sway forward with my head etc. Drive 1 Drive 2 Drive 3 Drive 4 Drive 5 Drive 6 Drive 7 (This one I think I pushed it very so slightly)

Oh, thank you. I guess I'm lucky to be rather athletic. I'll focus on keeping my head in place by pushing my hips forward more and see if I can get that body bend. I wish I have a mirror I can look at when I practice...

Erik, thank you for your time. So in 3 weeks will be my 1st year anniversary that I started playing golf. I'm going to try to fix my positions by then and post another vid at the "my swing thread" I'll be making then. Any other tips or advice that you can share with me to fix my flaws? And yes, if I'd have known an iPhone quality vid is enough, I'd have done so ^^; I thought I needed an expensive high def cam to capture each frame

Erik, my friend used his iPhone 4 to tape me. So I have 2 footages. is the best footage enough? oh, here is the clip. I hit it straight, then the ball fade on this clip. 2nd clip: 286yds draw , but I think I pulled it a little: So my tendency is to Push the ball. Once in a while when I'm tired, I pull the ball. I so want to make a straight with a draw my stock shot... PS: I just noticed that the top of my back swing went beyond parallel ... is that just the shaft bending or am I over swinging?
-
oh, if iPhone quality is good enough... I'll ask a friend. I thought I need to have a high def slow mo expensive camera.
-
I can't afford a video, I even cut back on golf to 1/week . But I understand. I won't ask anymore questions.
-
Yea, right now I'm not sliding well at all... when the tee box is on the right, I kept pulling my drives. It's annoying

True. I guess each individual is unique and not everyone is compatible.

Alignment. Always aimed right without realizing
Sai-Jin replied to Sai-Jin's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Aro, I got to play again today... so yea, I'm pulling more than I used to. But I was also rather tired though, mainly in my legs and hips... was a long training day today. Tips for me? -
Erik, so if I'm not mistaken you told me that the hip bump is about 5-8 inches forward? It seems that when I have this kind of hip bump or maybe even more, my old push / push fade problem came back. But when I feel that I just moved my hip laterally a tiny bit then rotate, I hit my straight or straight draw. Care to educate me on this?

Aro, Jetfan, I just got back from the course today. So what I did is stand behind the ball, make an imaginary line to target, pick a spot infront of ball around 5 inches or so and try to square the club to it. Well, I'm pretty accurate with the occasional pull draw. So it's working great. Thanks for the tips. Now the problem is getting used to actually squaring my feet and knowing how my driver squared face look like. I think once I get over the illusion, it'll be even better. -
Just out of curiosity, what do most experienced people know of him and think of him? I think he is a very decent and nice guy, but I don't see him giving out any tips or exciting contents. I watched some of his youtube vids a while back and it was rather plain. He never uploaded anymore until recently and even those are rather plain I thought.

Yes, you are correct about my pulls again. Will do, will try to just trust the feet alignment and swing ahead. It's amazing how much a forward tilt makes a vision difference -
Alignment. Always aimed right without realizing
Sai-Jin replied to Sai-Jin's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Ah yes, you are very correct. When I align to the right, my body auto corrects the line by swinging out to in / a pull. Resulting in a centered shot with a fade or big fade. So with your tip, this will train my eyes to recognize the actual alignment soon or later? I will take a leap of faith again on this. I did once on a course and it worked wonders, and now I'm back to habits. It felt like my feet and my arms just won't trust it and my swing becomes really whacked. I'll remember your words to make me trust the line though. -

Sai-Jin replied to Sai-Jin's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Thanks for the tip. It's mainly my driving that's problematic right now. So it still comes down to trusting my line and try to ignore my mind when it says "Oh dear... I'm aiming to the houses on the left". Correct? Well, I hope one day my eyes will be trained enough to see the flaw...
