  1. I had a big slice up until the last two rounds.....Ive strengthened my grip quite a bit, as I was gripping the club before in a very weak way (i thought I was gripping the club with a neutral grip). This helped me keep the club head square during the swing. Now i just try to feel like at the top of my backswing that my body rotates very slightly away from the target (or if viewed from above it feels like i turn clockwise away from the target) which gives me a nice in to out swing path. Result:- last two rounds i've hit nothing but straight to a slight draw on all the clubs. I used to slice my driver so much that I never got it out the bag. When I grip the club I try to get the feeling that I have to physically hold the club square (if I was to relax my grip completely the club would naturally turn to a closed position) so to hit a draw i tend to relax the grip very slightly as i begin the downswing and I get a nice draw...although I tend to over do it every now and again and hook it (not massively but still a hook roughly 10-13 yards left) This may not be the correct way but its working for me.
  2. I'm an Air Traffic controller at Heathrow Airport UK
  3. Also looking at these two sets of irons...I would also be interested to see which people prefer for the higher handicap golfer
  4. Had this same problem and went to a professional a few days ago and he said my hands were to far ahead of the ball at impact therefore creating an open clubface and i wasnt releasing the club. A drill he got me to do was to put feet together then set up a ball in line with my left big toe, then move my right foot back. When you hit the shot do not allow your body to turn on the follow through this will show you what releasing the club feels like. Not sure if that helps but it definately helped me.
  5. Thanks for the replies, had my first lesson from a professional 2 days ago and he said that my hands were getting too far ahead at impact and i wasnt releasing the ball till long after the ball had gone hence the pushes and slices. He worked on my swing for a while and im now hitting a lot straighter shots and even a few draws. tshapiro, thanks I will give that a go when I go down the range tomorrow..When I try to push the hips forward I do try to force it as you said which is obviously causing a problem. I find I also have a problem in that I think I lift my head early, more so when im on the course. I never actually see my clubhead hit the ball, I presume this is because my head is coming up? Thanks Again for the help i'll keep working on it. Darren
  6. Went to the range again today. Tried the weight shifting forward by pushing the hips forward and I topped the ball 8 times out of 10, it felt like i was going to hit the ball first then the ground, but for some reason i was catching the top of the ball with what felt like the leading edge of the club. Every now and again i'd chunk it or i'd hit the ball with what seemed to me like a clean strike (Felt no impact with the mat at all) and would hit a massive push as I felt like i couldnt close or roll my forearms through impact. Went through a phase of about 5 mins where i felt like i was hitting the ball well and even hit a few draws but the ball never seemed to fly more than 110-120yards and after about 10-15 balls i was back to topping or slicing and couldnt replicate the swing where i was hitting a draw. The shots i hit clean (i.e no chunking or topping) flew straight some with a small fade but again never seemed to fly very far and i always felt like i was on my back foot after impact (exactly like the videos above) I tried out the S&T; style of keeping the weight on the front foot and keeping the weight moving forward during the swing but it felt like i was moving away from the ball, then topping the ball very bad. I can't quite get the feeling of hitting through the ball as everytime i try, i'll top the ball , chunk it massively or be so out of balance I fall towards my target on the follow through. Also hit my for a few balls and sliced it massively, although if I hit it straight the ball would fly up in the air and go barely 120 yards. For the first time ever I have got a callus on my right middle finger next to my nail on the side that points towards my ring finger (I am a righty) could this be something to do with my grip being wrong and why im hitting it badly? Didnt get any video this time but can anyone have a stab at what might be going on?
  7. Thanks Andrew, im going down the range today so i'll give that a go. Do you think the S&T; swing style would help me with this weight problem?
  8. Went to the range today and concentrated on making sure my forearms and hands rolled over through impact and hit ALOT straighter shots, and even managed to hit some draws. However I still managed to slice and push a few of the shots. The vidoes below are 6 Iron. Would really like some advice on what I could improve on. Thanks
  9. Thanks, i'll have a look at it! Anything has got the be better than what im doing now
  10. Firstly im new here so would like to say Hi to everyone. I havnt been playing golf for very long...about a year all in all. I am having a big problem with straight slices and every now and again pushes with all my clubs except my 9 iron, PW and SW. I have been to the range quite a bit lately and managed to hit a few draws BUT that is on the range and it changes completely when im out on the course! Went to the course yesterday and consistently straight sliced or pushed my shots. I tried a weak neutral and strong grip and none seemed to help. On the downswing I feel like my hands have moved into an open position from the cocking of the wrists which makes me turn my hips further ( see next line below) At impact i feel as if my arms and hands and club are behind me (my hips have spun too much towards the target) and i cant release the club and till WAY after I have hit the ball. I also feel if I lead with my hands through impact I cant square my hands. Like I say this is just the feeling im getting, I will try and get up a video sometime soon, but for now does any know any drills that could help me with this? Hope that all makes sense Darren
