  2. Dodge those types of people!!! I go out to play golf for enjoyment, competition and to enjoy the people who are playing the game around me. If there is an idiot in your four it can be a right pain in the arse, I would go home pissed and take a week of because of it. I like playing with passionate fun people who love playing and enjoy good company. I was playing once and this idiot whispered in my ear before the 17th tee "don't shank it" and he kept on whispering "shank, shank, shank" after the shot I warned him if he does that again I will punch him in the nose, so he took up the challenge on the 18th and I dropped him. After that he never did it again, lesson learnt. However this is not the best way to deal with these types so what is?
  3. Good on you Franky 21 Mate exercise is great for my golf, my life has revolved around keeping fit, I had a serious accident a while back fracturing my spine, six ribs and my swede and if it wasn't for keeping fit and flexible I wouldn't still be swinging a driver around today that's for sure. Keeping fit helps as you can maintain your spine angles when you swing the club and gradually you will also notice a gain in distance through your increase in strength and flexibility. Previously I used to play with an old friend of mine he is 78 years old and he regularly shoots under his age he credits his golfing longevity to his fitness, his passion for golf and "the blue pill" My back only causes me issues when I don't keep up with my training routine which is; I bike to work every day 30km I go to the gym to work out twice per week and I also take a body balance class once per week then I play golf on Saturday. Keep on pumping and ripping. Mike
  4. I have a set of Ping eye 2 green dot I bought them off a mate about ten years ago and I still can't seem to part with them, although I did loss the 4 iron one day playing skins under a tree, that was a big loss. Great clubs.
  5. Great to read so many interesting articles. I have just recently re-joined a Golf Club I will call Happy Valley Golf Club (HVGC) I was asked to join to; a. Take over the accounts and become the treasurer and b. provide an outside analysis of the club as a new member would do when first joining a golf club. So I was really excited about getting back into golf and the first Saturday of March 2011 arrived my daughter and I went along to play in the club haggle. What I found really interesting was no one wanted to play with us! all the members had pre-arranged groups (liked playing with their mates) and so a new member found it very difficult to slot into a four. This frustrated me as my daughter is not that bad and nor am I and so that went down as a mark against the club; poor customer service on the behalf of the board. Looking at the demographic of that Saturday the average age of the club members would be around 65 years old. My question is; is this normal? What is the average age of your club members that play in the club day competition? What is the average age of your clubs managing board of directors? Has your club membership decreased over the last 5 years? If so what has happened to the members that left the club? Cheers Mikeyg
  6. Thanks all No worries shorty, as with many country golf clubs down here in New Zealand we are asset rich and cash poor. Our problem down here is that many of our club members have left Christchurch due to earthquakes and loss of jobs and we have to make do with what we have got. It would be great to include a pro, however they are few and far between and whether or not a group of community members would be willing to pay for a would be another story. But there is nothing wrong with gathering quotes to find out what it may cost. Cheers MikeyG
  7. Thanks newtogolf I will take a look at ben Hogan's book.
  8. I have been appointed by our golf club board to help teach a community group how to play golf; I would assume they have not played any golf before and so they will be starting from scratch. Developing a beginners guide to playing golf where should I start? What stages should I take them through? Considering they will have 1 session a week for 12 weeks! Cheers Mikeyg
