  2. Tied my personal best with a 79 today. Been playing for 4 months now. I try to get out a couple times a week at my home course. I've been self-taught on my swing. Still learning to control the driver though, my irons have been saving me. Today my putter was on fire too! It was awesome. Had 12 puts on the front nine, but 18 on the back nine. Finished +2 on the front, and +5 on the back (damn lost balls!). I'm happy with the progress I've made in such a short time, especially being self-taught. I figured out my handicap today too, down to a 10.7. I'm going to make an appointment at Golftec next week to get a swing evaluation and get fitted for clubs. It's going to be a loooooonnnngg winter up here.
  3. Posted my best round ever today, a 79 (+7). Didn't warm up at all and had a triple bogey on one, then a bogey on 2. Held on pretty good from there. Only been playing since May, and the golf season up here is pretty short, so I've been hitting the local course a lot. I think this was my 17th or 18th round this summer. Good luck out there all.
  4. Good advice, thanks! I guess even more than this, I was asking how do I know it's time to upgrade and get some real clubs? And, how much benefit will new clubs have on my game? What kind of improvements have others seen when moving up in clubs? Thanks again.
  5. I played in a league at a local executive course when I was in my teens about 20 years ago, and can count on one hand the number of times I've played since then. I recently got back into golf just a couple of months ago (early May), and I'm shooting in the 80's consistently. Best round has been an 82, but I'm usually around 86-88. I go to the range several times a week, and play a full 18 usually twice a week. I've been using a set of "Icon" golf clubs that I bought from Play It Again Sports. It was a new set, included bag/stand, driver, 3 wood, 5 hybrid, and 6-PW. The whole set was $150. I know people that have a single club that costs more than that. I'm just curious if this is the right time to buy new clubs, or even if there is a "right" time. Also, I'm about a 4 hour drive from a Golftec or Golf Galaxy where I can get a computerized fitting, and my local course has a very limited selection. So it looks like I'll either have to make the drive to get a fitting, or order something online and hope it's right. So what do you all think? Buy something now? Wait til next season? Buy online? Make the drive? Thanks all, and good luck on the courses.

    Hi all

Yeah I know where Zimmerman is, I grew up in North Minneapolis. Traveled around the country a bit, and now I'm living in I-Falls. Only one course here, but looks like I can make some day trips down to Bemidji, Duluth, or Brainerd to get some really good golfing in. Thanks for the welcome!!!

    Hi all

Well, I guess I've been bitten by the "golf bug." I played in a little league at an executive course about 18 years ago in my teens, then have played only a handful of times since then. I recently moved back to Minnesota, where there's only one course within about 75 miles of me, and I've been playing pretty regularly over the past few months. I went out and bought a complete set of "Icon" golf clubs from Play It Again Sports, and have been using that. I go to the range 3-4 times a week, and try to golf at least 2 rounds per week. After a few times at the range, and an hour lesson from the local pro, I've been shooting around 90 pretty consistently. When I first started I had an extremely fast backswing, and a horrible over-the-top downswing, producing a devastating slice. I'm still working on slowing down, and I've started to get that slice under control, and even get the nice little draw now-and-again. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and say thanks for the info a lot of you have posted on here. I've been reading as much as I can to try to understand everything that's going on with my swing, so I've been "lurking" here for a while. Just decided it's time to say hi! Good luck on the courses, all. Huck
