  2. He's a good one to follow on twitter. Always upbeat, talks about his family, and very respectful towards other golfers.
  3. 911 dispatcher and former firefighter/EMT
  4. Thanks guys. Using the range on a regular basis is really helping develop muscle memory and I'm seeing improvement already. I'll add those Sean Clement videos to my watch list until I can get set up with lessons from the pro. Maybe I'll figure out a way to get my swing on video and posted soon.
  5. I sometimes have it on just for background noise. Like someone else said, at least it's golf related. Better than nothing. Although it astounds me that these guys get every morning and Feherty, who is actually interesting and funny and has great guests, only gets 30 mins per week.
  6. Golf fix with Michael Breed, +1. He's a little over the top sometimes, but he always has good tips and guests.
  7. I apparently need to pay better attention when I'm at the range.
  8. I've been hitting the range fairly regularly trying to build a consistent swing. I'm hoping to solicit some feedback on some of my own observations: Slicing - I developed a serious slice during my playing hiatus. From a subtle push on my irons, to banana balls with my driver. I tried hitting with my feet together, and that helped a lot. That seems indicative of too much lower body movement. With a narrower stance, my irons have straightened out nicely, but I'm still slicing my driver. For now, I'm not even using it, preferring to hit my 4h off the tee instead. Much straighter and longer than my driver at this point. Irons - in addition to the narrower stance, I've also been trying to really concentrate on striking the ball downward. I still occasionally mishit, mostly thin. I find that moving the ball rearward in my stance, well past center, has helped a lot. What could that indicate as far as swing issues? Putting - My putting stroke is very inconsistent. It feels like I just can't find a proper stance, it's either too hunched over and I'm bottoming out on my stroke, or I'm too upright and then not getting straight line putts. Stance - A lot of my mishits seem to be off the heel, especially when driving. I've had to keep pushing my stance back. With irons I'm lined up with the ball but as I go longer in clubs it gets worse. By the time I reach my woods, I'm setting up an entire clubhead in front of the ball in order to make center contact when I swing. What could be causing this? Am I swinging too outside coming out of my backswing? I work for the city and just took advantage of discount membership rates to our muni course. I'm hoping to get set up with some lessons in the near future, but I'm hoping to get some ideas of what I can try in the meantime. I take advantage of the range several times week in the mornings when I leave work. Any suggestions or comments?
  9. I'm in the exact same boat, although for me it was more like 10 years away. I'm completely rebuilding my swing because of a nasty slice that wasn't there before.
  10. I've been playing with a budget Maxfli Revolution set since Christmas, trying to get my game back after a long hiatus. I've really been wanting to upgrade to something better, and I've had my eye on some Adams A7os irons. I've been watching the prices, and the set of hybrid irons with the Speedline F10 driver/3/5 woods was marked down $100 at Golfsmith. I finally decided to grab them, and did a quick online search where I found them at $150 under the sale price at Golfsmith with no tax or shipping. I decided to take that along and see what happened. I didn't have much faith that they would match it, since the online price was at a site that wasn't clear whether they were an authorized retailer. I've read a bunch of places on here where Golfsmith didn't match it if they weren't. I showed the printout to the sales guy, and he said the same thing. But he offered to call and find out for me. Less than 5 minutes later, he came back and said they'd match it. I was pleasantly surprised and happily took the clubs home with me. I ended up saving a total of $250 off the regular price. I still had to pay tax, so I spent a little more in the long run, but I felt good about keeping it a local sale since I'm in that store all the time to browse. It was a great overall experience and they'll be getting my business in the future over the PGA superstore that's right around the corner from them.
  11. Excellent thread, thanks for taking the time to summarize everything for us. Many helpful tips in there for me.
  12. I've been lurking for a while and finally joined. I'm originally from Pa, and moved to the Dallas area last year. Like many others, I just started playing golf again after about a 15 year break. I'm basically starting over again. I work for an area city and I took advantage of our discount rates through our local muni. I'm planning on taking advantage of it and getting my game back. I really enjoy reading the forums and I'm glad to finally be a member. Let the learning continue.
