  1. The 3-wood in the driver shaft will be far too whippy and everything will slice off about 80yds. It won't work unless you are using a driver shaft that is WAY too stiff for you. Driver in a 3-wood shaft I've never tried, but I can't think of a reason why it would be the disaster that the 3-wood on a driver shaft would be, in all likelihood.
  2. You should get a bit more control with a shorter shaft, but may lose some distance. (Unless the shorter shaft helps you find the sweet spot more often and you hit the ball more solidly). I don't think it will help get the ball higher, though. It sounds like maybe you need a different shaft. Either one with a lower kick point or perhaps one that is a little less stiff (or both).
