Big Giants fan here, I knew we had our work cut out when Posey lost his leg haha. And then more followed! Look out for next year though, hopefully our players drink their milk this offseason

god forbid i suggest a video that reinforces what everyone was telling me on my slice thread. everybody else has stopped with the negative comments and i already apologized so quit bashing. go watch the video yourself and come tell me you don't agree with it. i am not giving out information, I'm simply relaying it. your preceding comment was literally 100% unnecessary and had absolutely no value or relativity to the original post. grow up.

haha that would be awesome. an overdraw would be pretty crazy. i am uploading new swing videos to youtube right now and i will post them to my swing thread, could you check the driver one and let me know what you think and if you can catch a slice-causer? i would appreciate it

Hey Guys, Just joined this forum this last week because I am absolutely hooked on the game of golf and every time I google something I always end up here. Anyway, my name is Mike, I am a second year student at Cal Poly in lovely San Luis Obispo, CA. I started playing golf consistently and seriously in June, so for about 4 months now. I played about 3 times a week during the summer and now with school I am down to about once a week. I am establishing my handicap still but currently my handy dandy app tells me I'm at 14. I have two goals as of now and they are 1: Fix my driver slice, 2: break 80. I am sure with all of your help I can do that soon! I know I got off to a rough start here with some people, but hopefully you guys will get to know me a little better and accept me. Looking forward to learning from everyone! Thanks, Mike

Ten bucks if you can cure my slice :)

thanks camper6 for the response. I have tried so much today to hit it with that in to out path but then I was hitting push slices haha. I think I found the problem that leads to my over the top swing, my driver swing has been very armsy and handsy. this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAyhowwGyJE shows how that can cause a slice. I will try to focus on my hips and legs like I do with my irons -
GOT IT! :) pretty great video if you as me! a fellow member made it Chrisutpg, found it in this thread http://thesandtrap.com/t/45210/slice-driver

Hey hey easy on the new guy please. I am sorry if I came off as "mr. know it all". I am here for one reason and that is to learn so I will do my best to observe and discuss and leave the answers to the real pros. Regarding the slice, I found a nice video on here earlier that shows how the swing is a lot of the legs and hips (assuming that is correct). It makes sense to me because my irons have been great lately but my driver has been slicing because I've been swinging with my arms (which the video shows promotes mega out to in. Then he shows how a nice in to out swing is generated with the legs and hips. Let me see if I can find it because it was really a new way to look at it for me and I think it may be beneficial!

Thanks for the thought here, I would like to know what more people think. I currently swing a 9.5 stiff Nike Machspeed Black, adjustable head but I keep it neutral, I would rather hit the ball right then let the club do it for me. HOWEVER I recently upgraded to the 9.5 stiff from the same club in a 10.5 regular. I am a strong guy, played a lot of baseball in my life so I swing the long clubs pretty fast, I have had a lot more success with the stiff flex than the regular. I am beginning to think it is my swing. I will get video of my driver swing on here ASAP! -

Okay guys, I will say it: I was very wrong, I still can't hit a consistent drive and the slice is still there. I played 18 today and i shot an 88 which is my personal best but that was with literally one hit fairway. If i can get this club down I will be shooting sub 80 no problem! That being said, I am all ears to you guys. Here's the weird stuff, I can hit every iron straight as an arrow with slight draw. I can hit my 5 wood straight with draw as well. I hit one drive with draw today and I recall finishing very high with a lot of spine angle to the point where my shoulders and the shaft finished straight up almost perpendicular to the ground. My swing doesn't feel over the top and from DTL it doesn't look OTT at all but theres no other explanation for my slice. Are there drills I can do to feel what an inside-out swing feels like because I literally have no idea what it is supposed to feel like. I beg you guys, help me figure this damn driver out! Thanks :) -

my sister is a great instructor at a nice country club ten minutes away. i got my first formal instruction from her this week and she said I could come get more free of charge any time. Normally I would have an instructor but I'm just a college boy, therefore, no money to spend :( -

Yes everyone is hating on me right now so let me just start fresh. Thank you all for putting up with my stubbornness but continuing to try to help. I plan on playing 18 today. I will remember to try to swing extra in to out if I slice it. Iacas, as you can see in that frame my left arm is winging a little, is that not screaming open face? -

I am not arguing with the information he is providing. However I have very good fundamentals and a completely on plane swing. I will agree that it is a form of an OTT swing but rather than my swing coming out to in I flipped my wrists at the end to release my lag however that throws the head around from the outside. A proper release should involve rotation. I will post video of my "new" swing later and you guys will hopefully agree that it looks pretty golden ;-) -
I'm going to agree with the over rotating of the hips. My pro at my lesson yesterday caught me doing the same thing. Not only did I club up with every club, my accuracy improved a crap ton. I only rotate them to like 30 degrees now. Look at Tigers old swing, his hips HARDLY moved. The x-factor is not incorrect btw. In fact I have a little rule of thumb, if most pros do it, its probably not wrong!

i completely understand the laws of physics and definitely the ball flight laws, trust me, I've had this slice for a longgg time. this hand rotation is not just squaring my club face, its helping with my extension at impact and follow through. I will try to hit some balls soon and let you know if it fixes the problem. It feels to good and natural not to be the fix ;) -

I would normally agree with you because that is such a natural motion with the golf swing. However, I have played baseball all my life and have only been playing golf for 4 months now and that hand rotation is really not too natural for me because of how I used to swing a bat. My path is very on plane and like I said, if anything, inside-out. -

not to be the weirdo that posts on his own thread but I think i found out why just thinking about my swing. I have been flipping my right hand through impact rather than rotating it over the left. confirm my thoughts if I am correct, but flipping that right hand would leave the face open through impact and actually rotating it and the face through impact would promote a straight, maybe even a draw correct? -
Alright guys with woods and my driver I will 50-50 hit it straight or hit it a slice. I have no idea why and I have tried everything! If I could get rid of it forever I would be able to drop like 8 strokes per round easily! My club face is square I promise you that much, my path is pretty straight, if anything its more inside-out than outside-in. I am personally thinking I don't rotate the club face through my follow through. Any ideas of what else could cause my slice? I would be eternally grateful and I bet I could break 80 soon. Thanks! Mike

thanks a lot for that analysis, appreciate the time and feedback. I was wondering about that hip sliding forward into impact, is that good or not? I watch rory's swing and he doesn't seem to have any lateral movement. I laughed when I read about the grip on my head because she actually was doing that drill with me yesterday. I am also working really hard to start extending those arms at follow through that Zach depicts so nicely, I think this is the reason for my occasional misses and probably my slice with woods because I don't finish at my target, is that correct? How can i work on getting that finish correct
