  1. So I dropped by Golfsmith yesterday to pick up a wedge, and as usual, I browsed the racks of used clubs. There were a few Callaway Razr Fit drivers and a few Razr Hawks. I was actually considering making a WTH purchase on one of them, but I decided to walk over and look at the new clubs to see by comparison how good the 'used' prices were. While looking at the new clubs, I noticed that the RazrHawk club face was noticably smaller than the RazrFit club face. A moment later, I wondered why I hadn't noticed that while looking at the used clubs, where I was actively looking at the club faces, so I went back and checked AND the club face on the used RazrHawk was significantly bigger than the face on the new RazrHawk, and pretty much the same in size and shape as the face on both the new and used RazrFits. My question: would/did Callaway change the RazrHawk driver over the last year and not change the name? Or am I missing something? Has anyone noticed this? --Matthew
  2. I have come across a Nike STR8-Fit driver with a shaft I might want, but a driver head I don't. It's very inexpensive. I have also found a STR8-Fit driver with a head I'm interested in, but a shaft I don't want. It's also exceedingly inexpensive. I have no first hand experience with STR8-Fit and just know that it's designed for easy adjustment of lie and face angle. MY QUESTION: Would it be a simple matter (if I had both clubs) to swap the heads, giving me the clubhead I want on the shaft I want? Or does the STR8-Fit connection not actually detach completely? Thanks in advance. --Matthew
  3. And, Sixdouble0, the comment you made about not knowing what a flush shot felt like before because you can't feel them with your GI clubs makes a lot of sense -- probably the most provocative thought of the bunch. :-)
  4. My mistake. It is a center shaft, and it's definitely a White Hot. Here's a big pic: http://golfweek.media.clients.ellingtoncms.com/img/photos/2011/07/03/AP110703030350.jpg
  5. The one vid I could find of it looked like a straight shaft toward the side, not center, but I may be wrong.
  6. Nice to know the forum is both active and responsive to newcomers. :-) Yes, opinions is what I was looking for, as well as any concrete reason why players clubs in the lower few irons would be definite no-no. I think I'm going to get a couple of forged blades and/or "players" mild cavity backs for $15-$25 a piece off of Ebay in the pw to 8 iron range and see what happens, then go from there. Thanks much. --Matthew
  7. It looks like a White Hot 2-ball, which they apparently aren't making anymore. It's been replaced by the White Ice 2-ball.
  8. I'm new. I'm 40 years old. Been playing about 6 months. I'm about a 30 handicap and happy with my progress. I should have already, but I'm going to start lessons next week. I'm playing right now with hand-me-down Powerbilt game improvement irons, which feel like rocks. I'm going to get fitted for new clubs. Preface: I can work my sand wedge -- with face open or not, half swing, full swing, etc. -- and hit straight and consistently drop balls at 20 yards, 40, 60, or 90. Consistently. Question: I know general wisdom says that I should be playing "game improvement" or "max game improvement" irons, but am I crazy to think that players clubs in the lower irons, maybe PW, 9, 8, would be a bad move? If not outright blades, would game improvement clubs like Mizuno MP53's (which are supposedly for scratch to 14 handicappers) in those lower irons. If I can work a bladed sand wedge well from the fairway, rough, bunkers, etc., I don't see why blades in the lower irons would be such a stretch. I was wondering if someone with more experience could educate me as to if/why I'm wrong. Thanks.
