  1. Just wondering if anyone here is familiar with the executive course at Smithtown Landing. Would it be a good course for a first time venture out on a golf course? Thanks
  2. My goal for this year: Play my first round of golf.
  3. Thanks for the words of encouragement guys. I truly appreciate it. Perhaps I'll try one of the local 9-hole courses on a cold, rainy day before the season is in full swing. That way I know I'll be on my own. Less embarrassing. I also have this paranoia drilled into me about holding other players up. I guess I just have to jump in and take my lumps.
  4. Hello all, New here and new to the game. My story: I own an out-of-the box beginner's set of Top-Flite clubs. Over the past 3 years, since becoming interested in golf, I've taken 2 dozen or so private lessons, a 1-day ESPN Golf School, and I've spent a fair amount of time at local driving ranges. I've yet to step on a golf course and attempt to play a round of golf. (My friends are all too advanced and impatient to drag me along and ruin their day). I'm thinking a playing lesson with a pro will be the way to go. Anyway, I'm glad I found this website and I'm already enjoying reading the posts here by experienced players. I'm looking forward to learning more about the game here.
  5. Thank you Jazzfan! I appreciate the feedback. I had a feeling that sticking with what I have was probably the best route, but all of the commercials and magazine ads make one drool over new equipment (even though I can't properly use it yet! Isn't that ridiculous!). I'm looking forward to spending time here and learning about the game. B
  6. Hello all, I am brand new here (and new to the sport). So here goes my first post . . . I only became interested in golf fairly recently. As of yet, I've only taken lessons, and haven't actually really played a full round of golf. (Wow, that's a newbie huh?). Anyways, before I started lessons, I purchased a beginner set of clubs made by Top Flite. These are sold as a boxed set aimed at beginners. I honestly don't know if they are good or bad. I haven't the experience to tell the difference. I do however know, that friends rib me about my kiddie clubs. Is it ridiculous for me to want to start upgrading what's in my bag? Callaway pre-owned has a great price on a set of Diablo irons that is tempting me. I also know that fitted clubs are highly recommended, so would I be doing myself a disservice by ordering off of the shelf? Am I just better off sucking it up and using what I have until I actually get the hang of this painfully difficult game? Any advice or input is greatly appreciated. B
