Does a new grip help, or is it my imagination?
cnl390 replied to cnl390's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I did notice one thing almost immediately, and that is it feels like I am not gripping the club as tightly as I am used to. The new grip is one of those soft rubber types, so maybe it just feels that way. -
Recently I switched from a Cobra AMP Cell Offset to a Ping G25 Driver. On the Cobra I was using a Lamkin Crossline Mid-size grip and had a really bad hook. That is why I switched to the G25. I played my first round with the G25 (Ping grip) and found that now I was slicing the ball. I had bought the G25 used from Golfsmith so I was due a free grip, so I had the G25 re-gripped with a Winn Dri-Tac Mid-size, which really feels great. My next two I hit the fairway with 80% of my shots. Were these two rounds coincidence? Or could a new grip make that much of a difference?

Best Golf Shoes I've Ever had on my feet

+++100 True Linkswear -
You are correct, I am pretty happy with my current clubs. I do need a SW, and have found a few used in Stiff flex. I replaced my Amp Cell Offset 11.5* with a Ping G25 9.5* and am hitting my drives much better. So I am considering replacing the Baffler T-Rail+ with a G25 3w, which I have found in stiff as well. That is why I was inquiring about flex.

I am 60 and play regular flex steel shafts. However sometimes I find myself looking for a deal on a preowned driver, fairway wood, hybrid or a wedge. A lot of the time the best deals are clubs with senior flex shafts, or sometimes the used clubs all seem to have stiff flex. How detrimental would it be to play with one of these? Thanks

Golf instruction in San Antonio, TX
cnl390 replied to cnl390's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I finally got in touch with Sean, he is now golf coach at Trinity University here in San Antonio. Funny thing is I am fairly sure I was his coach in Little League 20 years ago! -

I used the link and went to the map and found Sean Etheredge, I have emailed him numerous times and have not received a reply. Is he still with you all? -

Changes to my swing, knees bent, butt out, chin up and arms straighter down. Backswing slower, left arm straighter, elbows closer to my body ending up with left shoulder under my chin. I feel like I am hitting the better, but still can't get consistently straight ball flight.

Since I am one of those guys that thinks if I have Ping irons I want Ping woods. So I went through the fitting program on the Ping website. It actually recommended an 8.5 loft. I picked up the 9 cheap, so why not give it a try.

Up until a couple of weeks ago I had the problem of hooking my long irons and my driver. So I took the advise I received on this forum and posted my swing under Members Swings as well as on the Golf Channel's Swing Fix. I took the advise I received and tried to get into a more athletic stance and changed my swing a bit. And I also purchased a used Ping G25 9.5 driver, set to 9. I went to the range and taped the face of the driver and hit a half bucket. I found that the Ping driver feels much better, I am making better contact and am hitting the sweet spot (or close to it) instead of the toe hits. However now I have a horrible slice. I am in the process of finding a pro right now, but I would like some advise as to what I might work on until I go for my first lesson. Thanks

I have a set of Ping G25 irons which I purchased with 2 wedges, a 45 degree PW & 50 degree U. In the G25 line Ping offers a 54 SW & 58 LW. What would you all recommend if I wanted to round out my selection? Thanks

I want to get a few lessons, no wait I HAVE to get a few lessons. But there are so many pros, non-pros, wanna be pros, guys who my friends say are pros, etc. out there I don't know where to start. Golftec, Golfsmith, online, at a range, at a club. Can anyone recommend where to get some lessons in the San Antonio TX area? Thanks

G15 Mishap - Reshaft or replace?
cnl390 replied to LocoPatrick's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I had 3 of my G15 shafts break under normal playing conditions. Ping re-shafted each one for no charge. All i paid were the shipping charges to Ping. Call customer service they are super nice. -
I've been Playing Golf for one year after not playing for 43. My current average score is around 113. My typical ball flight is fairly high & straight when I get a good strike. The shot I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is a big hook with my long irons and woods. I would also like to consistently have good ball strikes. I still top and blade the ball a lot.
-
Funny you should bring that up. I suspected that I was hitting shots off the toe, but didn't know that would initiate a hook. What should I do to correct this? As far as gear, I was fitted for my irons which are I believe +1/4 or +1/2.

When I started playing I bought some inexpensive Adidas shoes. And while they are good quality, they aren't super comfortable. Not because of the manufacture, but because being inexpensive there was not much of a range of half sizes or different widths. Now am wanting to upgrade, so can I get some suggestions as to a good, comfortable golf shoe. Thanks

It will be a year this month since I started playing golf again after 46 years. I started with a really, really bad slice, which I finally cured, but now I am hooking the ball. This is happening only with my long irons and woods. However I am only hooking about 50% of my shots, with the other 50% flying straight or fading a bit. So I guess I am changing something from shot to shot, but I can't figure out what. Yes, I am going to post my swing as soon as I get a chance. Yes, I am going to see a pro. (But how do you pick a good one that is right for you. I just thought that with all the knowledge in this forum I might get some suggestions on what I might work on in the mean time. Thanks a lot. How do I correct side spin, or do I need to?
cnl390 replied to cnl390's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
What are the best angles I should video from? -
I will admit it, I am a poser. I have been in the habit of using whatever ball is most popular and has the coolest advertising, or is what the pros are playing. I am tired of kidding myself, I am probably an average golfer at best and should really be playing a ball that will be most advantagous to my game instead of my ego. So I would really appreciate some suggestions on the right ball for me and my game. I average between 100-120 per round My putting normally saves me. My driver head speed is around 86 mph, ball speed 125 mph, back spin 2600, 192 carry, 219 total Ping 3i head speed 80 mph, ball speed 115 mph, back spin 2224, carry 154, total 198 Ping UW, 50 degree, head speed 58 mph, ball speed 84 mph, back spin 6745, 103 carry, 113 total I really play my short irons very well Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have been going to Golfsmiths lately to try and determine average yardages for my clubs. On the spreadsheet I notice that side spin looks to be directly correlated to the offline figure. A vast majority of my shots have side spin in the -1000 to -2000 range. How do I correct this? Thanks
