  1. You might save on a starter set since the bag and all clubs will be included. But quality will not hold off for extended play.
  2. Go witha reputable brand that is preowned. Make sureit is a forgiving game improvement set. Also, go to a golf storr and grt a quick and free wristt to floor meadurement and aaskhow much they think you should extend a standard set. Old but good drivers can be found iin used golf stores for cheap, like $40. Good iron sets can range from $100 to$200. Wedges and putters can be found for cheap too.
  3. I wore out my strata set in 7 weeks. Cheap quality.
  4. I did this with basketball too in college. Used a huge basketball on a regular hoop. No room for error. 9nce you go to a regular ball everything seems to go in course in golf, just like in basketball, most of the practice would be with what you use at gametime.
  5. Interesting thread. Was wondering the same. If I practiced with blades, would my ball striking improve even though I am only a beginner? Of course I would play with GI irons. The blades would only be a training tool.
  6. Glad you took the initiative to improve your health. Not enough people do that, no matyer how surprisingly easy it can be.
  7. The stratas didnt last 7 weeks for me. Although I did use them 3 or 4 times a week hitting hundreds of balls eacj day. Im also pretty strong with a fast swing speed. THey are probably as good as any set for yhe price. Like some9ne told me, you get what you pay for. Adams seems like a much better set. Even better would be building a set, but you may have to buy used for some of yhe clubs.
  8. I picked up a titleist 983k. Its heavy and awesome. Best part is that it was $45. Keeping the superfast too. Really liking the old 983k though.
  9. Good idea. If I can find a used one for 50, great. if not, will use the one I have. Thanks
  10. ITs stiff, so should be the right flex.
  11. Thats a good suggestion that my teacher mentioned (new shaft). Because its so light though, my wife lioes it and I will probably shorten it for her. Your second suggestion is good too. My teacher just said I shouldnt even practice with it because it will feel so much different than the "right" club, so looking to pick up a cheap and decent one this week.
  12. Ps - the 75 grams refers to the shaft I believe. I am a tall guy with long arms, so I think that is part of the reason the driver I have might be too light.
  13. Hi, new golfer here. Have been practicing several times a week for 8 weeks. bought a taylormade superfast burner 2.0 because it was the cheapest decent club I found ($100 new). My teacher told me it was too light for me, and that I should go with something 75 grams for someone that is strong with a fast swing speed (I dont know what mine is). I'd appreciatr any suggestions for a decent driver at a decent price that would be a good fit for me. Will also be checking out used clubs in the meantime. Thanks.
  14. I recently bought a $200 beginner strata set which had great reviews. lasted me 6 to 7 weeks. The irons were starting to bend at the hosel, and I ended up replacing the whole set, well, im in the process of that. So, if you arr planning to use them often, and or you swing pretty fast, 0
  15. By the way, thanks for all the feedback. I got a lot of helpful feedback.
  16. My wedges are cg14s 52 56 and 60. Got the credit, which I used for a bag. Will pick up a putter with it too. Will be a customer there for a while. Happy with the service.
  17. Good news. Called the good manager this morning, and he said he will honor their 30 playability policy even though its been longer than 30 days. Said they will give me credit for whatever I paid for it to be used towards a better set. He said he wants customers to be happy with whatever they buy from his store, since he wants his customers to return. Ive already bought 3 other clubs (cleveland wedges) and extended and put new grips on 9 clubs from that store. Plan to spend much more at their store, since the "good" manager has been very nice to me since I walked in.
  18. The 3 wood is next on my list, and will likely try out the hybrids soon.
  19. I hit my 6 iron pretty well, but I have never tried a 5 or lower iron. Hear the lower irons can be tough, so will be spending a lot of time with the 3 4 and 5 when I get them. I will have the 3 tomorrow, so will give an update then.
  20. Thanks for all the feedback. I was disappointed in the customer service, but I knew it was the "bad manager" that I was dealing with. The good one that got me a good deal will be there tomorrow, so I will try to discuss it with him too. Hoping to get some kind of refund since those clubs won't do me any good, and I've only had them for 6-7 weeks. The only reason I go to that store (which is 15 miles away) is because of that "good" manager, and I am seriously reconsidering it because of this "bad one". For wedges, there was a good deal on Cleveland CG14s, so i got a 52, 56, and 60. I actually bought them from that same store. I like your suggestion on the 3W. I will pick one up soon, and then see how I play with the 4 and 5 irons (if I end up getting those irons). I will hold off on the hybrids for now. Thanks for all the feedback. I really appreciate the recommendations and suggestions in this thread.
  21. That makes sense. I should know in a week whether or not the 4 and 5 irons are there. My colleague is awesome. That was a really nice gift, for no reason other than being really nice.
  22. Yea , I was disappointed. It was partly due to the manager there. When I originally got the set, a different manager there gave me a sweet deal on extending and regripping($50 for 10 clubs, including new golf pride grips). The "bad" manager tried to argue against it. The bad manager is the one that was there last night.
  23. Oh, the 4 and 5 iron may be added to the cleveland set too, but not sure about it.
  24. Thanks. Really appreciate it. Given I am unfamiliar with woods and hybrids, what woods or hybrids should I start with? Have a 3, 6-pw for irons, plus a driver. Is a 3w, 4h, and 5h a good place to start? Or perhaps just a 3 w and one hybrid?
  25. Thanks for the feedback. Do you really think I need to change out my bag after 6 or 7 weeks? The cleveland irons are a good start, and I already have cg14 wedges since my set didnt come with any. I got a superfast 2.0 driver, and have the strata 3 wood 4 hybrid and 5 h. Havent spent much time with the woods or hybrids. I guess I thought id at least make it through the summer with the stratas lol. Excited to pick up the extended clevelands.
