  1. Thanks Erik Totaly understand what you're saying. Guess what I was wondering as well as asking. Do many of you better golfers remember when you were doing this and when came the point where muscle memory came without thinking? While doing some reading I came across this, as quoted by Tom Ward, Professional Golf Instructor something I'll keep notice of "To have a good angle the left leg passes the ball first, hands second, and club head last. This motion automatically moves the club head in the descending angle of approach. Having the club head passing the hands prior to impact creates an ascending angle of approach. Most of the time with this action the club head will hit the ground behind the ball (Chill dipping) or the swing bottoms out early and the ball is struck on the upswing, topping it." the consequences sounds familiar to me
  2. uhhhh... to hit the green, possibly one if I can forget about the water To have the ball stay on the green is totally another situation
  3. You guys/gals who haven't felt the frustration of fat shots or topping the ball in years. Has your swing developed so you're always in the same plane? The club leveling out at the same distance off the ground each time no matter what club your using because of your swing? I've taken 3 1/2 hr lessons. The first 2 by the same person, she's an older former LPGA female, who I felt she being more my height of 5' 5" could give me better understanding and confidence than a 6ft 100+mph guy? We worked on 3 things. Weak, nuetral, and strong grip, stance and take away. A couple of weeks after I felt comfortable and natural with the hip rotation and club take away I went back. She fine tuned my stance, arms and cocking of wrists. I was feeling pretty confident and making good contact with the ball and sending them straight. I might note all this on a practice mat. The 3rd lesson from an assitant golf pro who I just got the feeling he had other things on his mind than teaching that day also on a practice mat. I didn't want any other lesson other than my swing so it was kind of the same stuff the first 2 lessons were on. Here's where this is going. On the mats I had hit them straight. To a point I'm becoming capable of my individual distance I'm getting with each club. In real surroundings (playing) on grass I'm hitting fat or over correcting and topping the ball too much. Even at the range on grass. My 4-7 iron out of 100 balls I caught maybe 20. My drives still under 200 yrds often slicing, and many topped where I get an 80 mph ball racing 12 inches off the ground for 100 yards then roll another 50. No they don't climb More lessons I'll get, but I want to fine tune this problem and ask in the forum before asking the instructor so I feel she/he knows what I want and not deviate from it? thanks
  4. I own and operate a small HVAC (air conditioning/heating) business. "Good morning, I'll be in that area and at your home between 9:30-11:30 this morning" "Yes, that's as early as I can be there" actually have a 7:30-9:30 am with the excecutive course for a quick 9 Nice being the boss
  5. Thanks Erik, Been away from Erie for 25 yrs, still IMHO a not known treasue of the north. I'd consider moving back if not for the fact I've been far to aclimated to 75* winter sunshine days. When younger I enjoyed beer guzzling, pool playing, dart throwing, poker playing, lieing about fishing and hunting time with my buddies. As I grew older, found I liked the time spent with the the wife. I enjoy her company and we do most everything together. We don't wear matching outfits should be a vomiting smiley here for that remark. Nor does she lay out my clothes. I invision taking more short resort like vacations, those with golf packages and hopfully she and I will make similar progress, can keep pace and enjoy the game while playing in some breath taking surroundings.
  6. You're always going to find those who feel better about themselves by giving what they think are tips. His tips being unsolicited has nothing to do with you but makes him feel important? IMHO he's was not only rude but took away one of your weapons. Your confidence in a part of your equipment. What are you going to be thinking when you're lasering in on that 20 ft putt? The 20 ft is short or Tracy feels too light? Pay for advice in lessons....or of course ask for them in here
  7. Hi all For all practical purposes might as well call me a newbie. I actually played my first golf 30 yrs ago. I'm 52 now Hey Erik... former Erieite here. I was laid off from work mid 70s and worked for extra money at an aquarium store. The owner's son and I took to playing a bit as well as tennis before opening the store. His family had played for yrs and I used I think his mom's old set. From what I remember I did pretty well for not knowing a thing. I can't tell you where he and I played and it was for a few times one summer. Funny I never developed the passion like I have now. Moved down here to Florida '81 and struggling to raise a family on low wages kind of took the front burner to golf. Pre Tiger era, none of my coworkers or buddies were golfers. Took it up again for a short time when wife and I were set to visit daughter and son in law in Philadelphia for Easter 4-5 yrs ago. For yrs Son in law and his Dad had made a date to go out Easter morning for a quick 9. Rain, snow or shine. I was to join them. I picked up a complete set at Walmart or Sam's club. Knight stratus for like $99. The irons kind of look like Olimar. Hacked around poorly with them in 45* rain. They were gratious hosts and played down to my level. I continued hacking for a cpl of months after till I let the set collect cobwebs in the corner for a few yrs. Fast forward to a cpl of months ago. My Business is doing well, kids are grown married and on their own. I got bit by the golf bug this time. Researching everything I can on clubs, shafts etc. Bought an old set of Ping Eye2s that I have reshafted, regripped and set the lie to red. Bought a new set of Wilson deep red II distances (pings feel better to me), have 4 drivers (none expensive) that are fighting for recognition in my bag, have 4 putters that too are wanting for attention. It'll slow down right? The always wanting something else? I've taken 3 private lessons spaced 3 weeks apart. Try and perfect what I have learned at the range. Have played 2 18 hole games in a 4some, played 3 quick 9's by myself. My wife has shown an interest has joined me the last cpl of weekends at the range, taken one group lesson yesterday and her set is due to arrive tomorrow. I don't think my ego could take doing a swing vid on here.. so there it is...to those still with me, my life in golf, thanks for your time. Great site
