  1. I am an Accountant, working at a brewery\pubco as a financial controller. Luckily the role is quite interesting as far as accountancy goes, only other industry here is financial services which bored the hell out me.
  2. Thanks, that's actually the drill i am working on from my pro. No one has ever mentioned the posture to me, which actually makes sense as I do seem to have a bit of lower back pain from the S detailed in the article. So I will definitely look to change that if only to stop any damage to my back. Cheers for the info.

  4. Long time lurker, though I have posted once before on the topic of bad practice sessions and received some excellent feedback. So, took up golf about 2 years ago but for the last year taken it seriously, lesson, trackman, fitted clubs, twice weekly range and playing every other week (have one and three year old boys, and I cant get out much more to play). Yet to join a club as frankly I am not good enough, go around my local 9 hole course anything from 45-53 on average but can be a lot higher sometimes! Anyhow, thought I was making progress with my swing, but only irons and hybrid. Could hit my driver for toffee. So, went for a lesson Sunday to check progress. Last few weeks I have been working on getting weight behind the ball, which I thought I had been doing. Turns out I was swaying, torso, massively outside my right foot (I am RH'nded). So my pro had me working on stopping that and coiling up (if that's the right expression) rather than swaying. Which has led me to this. I hit the range today, after working on drills re the sway, decided to hit some free shots (just hitting targets, rather than any drills etc) and I could not hit the ball truly at all: tops, fat, slices etc, only one shot would have been playable out of 25. My thinking is that correcting the sway fault has opened up the door to another fault\compensation. So, I took a video (hopefully attached\linked) and noticed that I lift my right foot up high almost as soon as I start my downswing which I feel could be causing the horrible strikes? In lessons its been noticed before but I have always got away with it, maybe my removing the sway now doesn't let me? What do you guys think? Please be kind to my swing, its a work in progress! Also, I do have a chicken wing going on but have yet to start the fix as my pro believes its a compensation for any number of pre existing faults, which I should get rid off first. Thanks in advance. AV
  5. Just a quick update, range was a lot better Thursday, was hitting the ball. .. Well not fine as I am working on my swing but much better than last time. Playing a 9 on my own tomorrow, with much more confidence. Thanks all
  6. MiniBlueDragon You know, I had never even thought of cleaning the grips! I try to clean the club head after a round\practice but never the grip. I will do so, thanks for the advise. With luck tonight at the range will be a whole other story and I can get back to working on that bl00dy weight transfer\hip rotation that troubles me so. Thanks to all for great advise to a newbie :)
  7. billchao Thanks, I am pretty reassured its the combination....I had never had that problem before, and hope I never again. It was most embarrassing and I have had plenty of moments at the range but nothing as bad as that!
  8. Thanks, I have ordered a new glove to practice in and a couple more as spares. I take your point about looking to the obvious thing first, I think I just panicked that I was going so far backward when I was really enjoying the game!
  9. Hi David in FL... I ahve yet to change my grips, as the clubs are less then 5m old. I have been out a fair few times with them though, but I would expect them to last a bit longer than that? Part of my practice is to swing at home, not hitting balls just swinging trying to get the right rotation down etc, and last night I used another glove, it felt tacky and it did not "feel" like I was slipping\twisting the face, but as I wasnt hitting balls that could all change once I have a ball in front of me. I hope it was a combination of things, glove, weak hand and trying too much then thinking about the badness! I am back at the range tonight, hopefully it was just a one off but if it happens again I will look into the grip issue.
  10. Hi All, Second post and been playing 3 months..... My question is, what caused the club to be slipping\club head turning when I was hitting a few at the range last night? I have a chicken wing, so in effort to cure this I figured a lot has to do with not clearing my hips (my pro mentioned this a lesson ago but I think I needed to find out for myself for whatever reason!) and sort of crashing into my body. This led me to the range, 50 balls (usually only hit 25) and I swear I did not hit one ball cleanly. I am not talking about hooks\slices\short I was having terrible terrible contact, the ball skimming on the floor, hititng the side of the nets, almost as if I just did not know how to hit the ball! This was with every iron I had (pw-5).... So, I thought to hell with the hips I will work on that another day, i will just try hitting a few in my usual swing (which is ok with the chicken wing even) but I simply could not hit it right, only when I went to slow 20yrd flop\pitches was anything resembling a shot working out What I did feel though was that the club head turned over at impact, sort of down toward the ground, at impact but I could not correct when I looked at my grip. A couple of factors which may or may not be related: I gave blood earlier, 3 hours-ish before and while I felt fine my left arm at the elbow was a little sore and I think my grip was a bit weakened. Also, the glove I used seems a bit done, not very tacky. Now I know that surely I cant, practically overnight, have lost the ability to hit the ball but I am a little worried about picking up a club at the range tomorrow! Anyone ever came across something lije this? Help and advice as always much appreciated. AH
  11. Thanks guys, I have taken both suggestions on board. One question on impact, is it worth getting an impact bag to try an train the correct lag\impact?
  12. Hi People, New member and new to golf! Been playing roughly 3 months, with lessons and practice I get to the range 2-3 times a week and have only played 3 times on an executive Par 3 course (which I am told is a diffcult one as its so unforgiving!)....I have been videoing my swings and as you can imagine I have a multitude of problems. My main one, and one which I am trying to work on is that as soon as I start my backswing I raise up from my hips. Now, sometimes I get back into posture at impact and hit the ball ok (not much distance but thats the next thing to work on!) but that tends to be on the mats at the range, when I hit from the grass at the range it I tend to top it a lot more (this is also true on the course).....The thing is I have noticed that when I practice swing I do not raise up at all, which leads me to think it could be a mental block I have when actually hitting the ball? Is this possible, if so is there any drills\swing thoughts I should incorporate? My Pro showed me the shoulder plane drill (club over the shoulder, point left shoulder at right foot etc) but to be honest I have only started doing this religiously for 3 days (everyday 50 reps) to try and ingrain some muscle memory. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I will try and upload a video but its from an app an proving difficult to extract. PS - ignore my HP at 28, I havent one but was told this was the highest you could have! In reality I am much much higher!
