Nickent square Driver info needed
steve617 replied to steve617's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I notice you can get them at decent prices since they are a older model. I just bought last week the Nickent 12* tour 3 wood and am using it as my driver. I really like the Nickents I also have the 17* #2 ironwood and have just ordered a #7 Hybrid wood 21* Nickent. I would say my next perchase would be one of the square drivers. Thanks for the info. -
Nickent makes a great hybrid for the money.

I noticed there are some good prices on the Nickent Square drivers on the bay. Just wondering if anyone here plays them. I have a couple Nickents and really like them. Thanks for the info

I have a problem trying to flatten my swing plane on my drive would the "Inside approach" help cure that and help my swing. I have read it was one of Golf Digest top products. Thanks
-
I knew it would be hard to see. I think I swing my driver the same plane as my 7 iron. Perhaps in the next few days I can get a video together. Thanks

Since I have taken golf back up I have played with 3 different people that has told me that I need to flatten my swing/plane. I understand what they are talking about but how do i do this. My drive is horrible the rest of my stuff is decent for my level. I know I dont have the hip rotation that I should have and I think I need to improve in keeping my elbows pointing downwards. Just wondering if there is any common mistakes that this problem has. One guy who says he will go to the driving range with me said I need to swing inside out. If I fix my swing plane would that take care of swinging inside out. For now he wants me to practice just hitting ball standing with one foot infront of the other. (Right foot toe touching the left heel) I know there is a couple traing aids that helps teach the inside out concept one I seen on a PGA DVD it was a color coded chart that was designed for self teaching. Dont remember the name of it. Thanks for any advice and tips.

I just ordered from Rock Bottow a Nickent 12*strong 3 stiff. I am planning on using this for my driver. At least untill I improve. With this club at least I should have more control than I do on my regular driver.
-
I was thinking about getting a strong 3/13 degree 3 wood. Mainly for teeing off. I just dont hit my driver well (Titlest 983K). I am a high handicapper and thought it would be better off for more control.

I normally use regular flex clubs however I seen a 3 wood that I was intrested in buying but it was firm flex. Just curios if there would be a lot of difference. I am sure if you dont have a fast enough club head speed that a firm flex would loose distance however I would think it would be more acurate. Also would the senior be less firm than a regular flex? Also would firm and stiff shaft be about the same just different vocabulary from different manufactories. Thanks

For what its worth. While on vacation I played 45 holes at a par 3 course (27 holes) all the holes are between 60 and 95 yards and I averaged around 34 strokes on each set of 9 holes. I know the length is considerably shorter than regular par 3's but I can play a decent short game. If I can get within 120 yards I will be OK. Fixing my swing should defiently help my long and short game.

Went out this evening at my backyard driving range and was consistant with the irons. I hit all of them with my legs together. Off the tee my best was my #2 ironwood only about 140 to 150 max. (in the air). I have heard great reviews about the book. I will get it. thanks

Thanks for all the advice. Over the years I have added several pounds which I know reduces my movement. I know it is going to take time. Over the last couple weeks I have realized I need to work on weight transfer, Ii need to keep my are staighter. For a big guy (6 foot 280 lbs) I just dont have any distance. I am not worried about the driver for now I just dont use it. I am going out at my own driving range and make me a few measurement boundries were at least I know how far I can hit my irons. I am thinking that my 9 only travels about 80-90 yds max. My short game is my strength. At least I think so. I am going to try hitting with my legs together I was reading about that last night. I also am planning on playing tommorow 9 holes. I have played it twice in the last 3 weeks when I started playing and I shot around 57. A lot of my high scoring is just being inconsistant. Thanks for the advice.

I am taking up golf again in my life for about the 4th time since 1980. I usually play around 100. I have had so many people tell me the different types of swing. Just curious if there what is the best type or style swing to learn for a high handicapper. For what its worth my flexibility is limitied and I have started doing some exercises to improve. I know the best answer would be to get a PGA pro and I may do that. Anyway thanks for any advice for a high handicapper as I am. Steve

Would choking about an inch help control your drive better if you are having problems with control. -
Need to flatten my swing. help!!!
steve617 replied to steve617's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I will actually going to meet a local PGA pro at the Bristol Race in August and will be playing his course the weekend before. Perhaps he would be a sufficent teacher. -
I played a 4some select shot this weekend. Which i was the D player and my drives totally sucked. (topped, slice) My short game was decent and really I think just needs more playing. I was nearly as good as them 130 in. The A golfer said I need to flatten my drive swing out said I was swinging like I do my irons. I know its hard to give advice but thought perhaps this is a common error. The good news we finished 7 under 3rd best out of 12 teams. Thanks for any advice. In a couple weeks me and the A player is going to the driving range to work on my swing but in the currecnt time does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks

Swingcoach Thanks for the reply. What exactly should I be doing with the lower body. (Do I need to be more flexible?) Did the tempo and smoothness seem Ok at a beginners level. Thanks for any other advice.

Took this today in the backyard with a 7 iron. I am really trying to concentrate on tempo and slowing my backswing. I know this is bad video but its my first video. I see one major mistake seems like I need to go straight back from the ball. My arms is not being extended. Thanks for the advice. Steve

Cheaper 3 woods advice needed. Nickent?
steve617 replied to steve617's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Are there much difference between the 2006 launcer and the Launcher Ti. I also checked 3 balls and they are out of these at this time. Callaway has them for around $50. -
Cheaper 3 woods advice needed. Nickent?
steve617 replied to steve617's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
You think the Adams Redline RPM or the Clevland launcher would be better than the Nickent? The have the Adams GT 500 for $49.99, Are there a difference between the redline RPM and the regular RPM. Thanks -
Burger king steakhouse burger sounds like a winner. Thanks

My current 3 wood is a XPC (I think was made by golfsmith) its probably 10 years old and has a steel shaft. I would love to get something more modern and would be easier to hit. I found on the internet a hippo for around $39 and Nickent 3DX pro for $69.99. It comes with a Aldila VS Proto shaft. This is about as much as I want to spend. Thanks for any suggestion

Last saturday while on the putting green I had spoken to a man and his grandson which looked to be about 6. This was his 3rd time playing and the youngster had a good swing. Anyway today I saw them both again at the same course. I spoke to them briefly and told the kid I wanted to show him something. I pulled out of my bag a new Wheaties Tiger Woods signature ball that I had from back in the late 90's (I think). I still had 1 ball in a sleeve and another sleeve that had all the balls. I gave him one of the balls and the sleeve it came in. He and his grandfather was so appreciated and the granddad told the boy he was not going to hit the ball that he was going to take it home and save it. Doing a good deed did not help my game any but seemed to make the boys day.

Beginner mistakes when using the driver
steve617 replied to steve617's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I recently had some problems with back spasms which put me out a couple weeks. Me and a friend started back playing last week. We hit a bucket balls each and played 9 holes. I watched him and he was swinging so hard it looked like he would hit 500 yards if he would connect. He had several wiffs and once missed the ball by about a foot. He told me the next day his back was killing him and coudnt hardly get out of bed. "yes that is dumb golf"
