Am I the only one who doesn't believe in golf lessons?
Harry Longshanks replied to Stacey_E's topic in Golf Talk
Could not agree more. If you don't commit to regular lessons, I think you are more likely to revert to your old habits because you don't trust what you should be working on. Whereas, if you know you have another lesson coming up, you trust that you can continue working on the technique and then go to the next lesson and get feedback to make sure you are making the changes correctly. Personally, I always get worse right after a lesson until I groove the new move(s). Now that I have been working with the same pro for several years, I instantly trust what he tells me and I integrate it a lot faster. Now my problem is over-integrating. That is, even after I incorporate the change into my swing, I keep looking for that "awkward" feeling I had when I first started trying to make the change. For some reason, I feel like I'm reverting unless it continues to feel weird. Of course, that's not the case - I'm just learning to incorporate things faster and more efficiently now. One step backward, two steps forward. -
First link doesn't work, and second is not an authoritative source (just a "Yahoo Answers" page where anyone can post an answer.) I'd be skeptical. Don't you think the RNC would have discovered and used this info before?

Am I the only one who doesn't believe in golf lessons?

S.E.- I think it's just a matter of finding the right pro. I took a few lessons here and there when I first took up golf. None of them helped, and I quit the game out of frustration. When I decided to give it another shot many years later, I asked around for recommendations, researched, and found a great pro. I actually look forward to sessions with my pro. -
Hmmm. I'm not sure where we could look for a definitive definition of "up and down", but I was always taught that "up and down" (as I described it above) and "sand save" were the two components of the "Scramble" statistic.

It means that if you miss a "green in regulation" (i.e., you are not on the green in par minus 2), but you still make par or better on the hole. Up = chipping/pitching/hitting onto the green Down = putting into the hole. However, it still counts as an "Up and Down" if you hole out from chip/pitch/approach. A "sand save" is the same thing, but from a greenside bunker.

Weird. I enjoyed this show, except for James and Andrea getting eliminated. I think they were more talented than some of the other teams . . . in theory. But they were definitely playing "one-legged". I am having that problem. I think Casey and Rachel L. are my frontrunners right now. (Bonus points to Qx3 for use of the word "ennui".) I must have missed the "celebration" and I deleted the episode off of my DVR. What happened?

You are right Awsi, a LOT of morons on that board. The mentality there just baffles me. I can't even look at it any more without running across something that makes my blood boil. I noticed the same thing. I wonder if motivation is an issue considering she just got her LPGA card? Vicky Hurst won again. No surprise there. Bri Vega (BB6 and BB7) had a nice finish at T13. That should boost her confidence going into the final stage of Q-School. Sarah Lynn Sargent (nee Johnston) (BB6) also had a great tourney and finished T4. Andrea VanderLende (BBX) finished T23, as did Lori Astedes (BB9). Ashley Prange (BB5) finished at T45, and Kristina Tucker (BB5) finished at T60.

You're not an interweb idgit. TGC site is painful. Not as bad as the Nike Golf site though. That one has got to be the worst in the business. Too much flash, hard to navigate, lots of pretty pictures but very little actual substance, doesn't work well with Firefox . . .

cool BAG COVERAGE & SET MAKEUP article
Harry Longshanks replied to Stacey_E's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'm no physicist, but it seems to me that the "stronger lofts are to make us think we are hitting the ball further" is flawed. Perhaps it's partly true, but isn't it also true that, because of the dramatic changes in club design since the 1950s, stronger lofts are required to keep the ball down? That is, the development of the cavity back and perimeter weighting - specifically, massive amounts of weight in the rear bottom of the club in order to increase MOI and to assist beginners with "getting the ball up." Wouldn't balls just balloon with the old lofts on the new clubs? -
But the swing videos are better this season. One driver (facing and D-T-L) video, and one video of each swing and putt on a single hole. I haven't looked at the confessionals yet. I guess with Gayle's interviews, they seemed a little superfluous.

Ping Karsten Series Putters
Harry Longshanks replied to Grndslmhttr3's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Or just order it from PING. They still offer a ton of their older putters for sale. And for the record, I think the Karsten line is fantastic, especially for the price. -

You're "pissed off" that a manufacturer developed and sold a new line of putters? -

Does $5 flat rate shipping from TGW.com apply to AK? EDIT: No, it's $10 to AK. -

Sounds like PING started a trend when it introduced the Karsten line (great putters, cheap price.) Good move Cleveland. I hope other companies follow suit. 907- The putters are on TGW.com and the MSRP is $90, but they are retailing for $70. http://www.tgw.com/customer/category...EGORY_ID=11848 -
Yep. You would know about that. Did the airline ever compensate you?

New Wilson Fg59 Forged Irons.
Harry Longshanks replied to EquipmentJunkie's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Dang. Based on the picture, that is the closest thing I have seen on the market today to a true "blade" (vs. a muscleback). -
I heard my first bad experience with Callaway recently. A friend of mine received a Callaway driver as a birthday present from a family member. Except my friend had just bought a new (non-Callaway) driver after a fitting. The family member had purchased the club directly from Callaway, so my friend called Callaway about a return, and explained the circumstances. Even though the driver had never been out of the original box , Callaway refused. They said that more than 30 days had passed since the purchase. They also gave some lame excuse about how the price of the driver had dropped since the purchase. Maybe that would make sense if the driver had been purchased from a retail source and there was the potential for people to try to return or exchange a discounted item for full price credit - but in this case, Callaway sold the driver, so they know exactly what price was when it was sold. That's just bad business in my opinion. How many people will buy clubs a gifts if they find out that the clubs may not be easily returned even when brand new and unused? Interestingly, my friend also just bought Callaway irons after the fitting. I wonder if Callaway just ostracized a previously happy customer...

As usual, GolfGal has done a much better job of saying what I was trying to say.

Well, I guess I'm in the minority because I like last night's show (not as much as BB:Ka'anapali, but I think BBX is starting to take shape.) Bernie and Haymes were awesome in the distance challenge. That was just fun to watch. The married couple is growing on me. Camilla's one liners are hilarious: After Hugo missed the first shot on the distance challenge: Camilla: "You blew it!" After Hugo hit into a deep bunker Hugo: How are you going to hit it? Camilla: High. If James doesn't get it together, and quick, Andrea and James are doomed. She is totally carrying him. As for all the people commenting "I could have done better" . . . Remember that every single competitor that has been on the show has commented that it was the single most stressful event of their life and that they have never been more nervous. They sit around all day and they are expected to hit a shot in front of 4 cameras and all of their friends and competition. And like Haymes said, it's not like a round of golf where 1 shot is just part of your score. On Big Break, 1 shot often IS your score. I'm willing to bet that if you took the low cappers on this board in groups of 9 and placed them under similar conditions like the first challenge of Episode 1, at least 2 out of the 9 would shank, chunk, thin, slice, or duck hook the ball. Nobody thinks it would happen to them, but it would. But even if that wouldn't happen, I still don't care. I like the show for what it is - a fun competition where (unlike 99% of what is on TV these days - including the PGA when Tiger is healthy) I can't predict the ending in the first 5 minutes.

Thanks. I couldn't find that. Usually, the first 2 shows don't contain an elimination for various reasons. In BB9, I think it was also Episode 3 before anyone got booted. Need a little foreplay Awsi?
