Considering I started playing golf in may of this year I am extremely happy with my progress.Started off with a 156 and after 5 months I shot a 99 I don't think I could be happier. Granted I credit all my progress to all the older gentlemen I always get paired up with who give me on the course coaching and tips. But hopefully after this winter next year I can hit it harder and break into the 80s. But being able to drive 300 yards helps out alot considering my iron game sucks. Taking some lessons when next years season starts and hopefully that will help out alot.

Yea I will only buy from a source I trust. And during my fitting I hit a 6 iron 200-210 yards 3 separate times. I really like those mizunos

300 dollars less from Golfsmith. I live in Alaska so stuff up here is gonna cost more than lower 48.
-
I didn't try out those irons that was just a picture I picked. I hit the mizuno 825s and the mizuno jpx ez and they were the ones I liked best. He told me he could put me in a set of the jpx ez's for around 750 with the shafts he recommended for me and the bend.

So I went and got fitted for some irons yesterday and had a question. My average clubhead speed with a 6 iron was 92 mph and the fitter did a strike test where he puts the ball on a plastic thing and had me strike it to where it scuffs the iron to show contact. The red area is the area of the club that I was consistently hitting. The only recommendation he made is adjusting the lie 3 degrees. My question is is that something I can grow out of and learn to hit more in the middle of the club because I just cant see myself paying 300 dollars more for a set of irons I can order off the internet for a lot cheaper.

How do I figure out my handicap. I finally broke a 100 and shot a 99 today. Normally I shoot around 105. I have no idea to handicaps and have only been playing golf for about 4 months

How do offset irons affect shots?
jballard388 replied to jballard388's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
So its all in my head thanks article was very helpful. -
What exactly do offset irons do to your shot? My slingshots are drastically offset and it makes me wonder. My buddy has some mizunos that are cavity back blades and the other day at the range I was hitting them and they felt great and all my shots were going straight. 80 percent of the time with my slingshots I hook the ball or just hit it left as if I am aiming far left of where im intending to shoot. Have I just outgrew my super game improvement clubs or is it just that I can hit every club in my bag except my irons, besides the 4 and 5 hit them straight majority of the time.
-
I hit my driver pretty straight 80 percent of the time and wedges are usually pretty decent for my skill level. But lately I've been really pulling my iron shots bad. I get good distance and get under the ball it just seems that I aim towards the flag but hook the ball left and getting tired of losing balls and killing my score after having a nice 280-300 yard drive. Am I just not lining my body up right or am I messing up with my follow through? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

What Putter You Using....
jballard388 replied to DoubleEagle's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Using a Nike Method Drone I bought 2 weeks ago. First day playing with it sank a 25 footer for par so it's worked out well so far. Better than my old thrift store putter I had. -

Creek Course- Par 5 640 yards, longest hole in Alaska -
Yea the only preference I have for shafts is stiff. The nikes i bought the 4-6 are stiff and 7-pw are regular flex and I hit the low irons better than the highs. Always hook it with the 7-9.
-
Yea I paid 100 bucks for them a cleveland cg14 wedge, a crospete bag and a old titleist driver so I can't complain as far as getting what I paid for.
-
Yea i figured getting new shafts would cost a pretty good chunk of change. Yea after these nike slingshot's I'm not to keen on Nike except for my putter.
-
Yea free shipping only applies to lower 48. I was looking at rockbottomgolf.com and they wont even ship cobra clubs to alaska for some reason. Only chain store here is sports authority and pretty much everything they have comes with regular flex shafts as far as irons go. How much does it cost to get irons reshafted since I need stiff flex.

Nice, I have the Bio Cell driver and it is an AMAZING club for me. But driving is my strongest part of my game. Yea being in alaska is rough on buying some things. It's like a life decision to order a set of 400-600 dollar clubs and then also pay about 50-75 extra for shipping and not even be able to hit a few balls with them.
-
Yea the only problem is I live in Alaska and I do not have many options on being able to hit clubs before I buy. And the one guy who does club fitting has a very limited selection. I just want some Irons that are forgiving. Distance doesn't matter to me because I can crush the ball off the tee so the only time I have to break out a long iron is on a par 5. Are there different levels of game improvement irons?

Never Bought New Balls
jballard388 replied to vangator's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I used to always look for balls and dig through grass while looking for mine. Now that I have gotten a little better and moved to Alaska I gave up ball hunting. It is kinda hard to look for your ball when you have to watch out for bears. Also, hard to concentrate on putting when you have a black bear about 50 feet away from you. -
I'm looking at getting a new set of irons. Right now I have some old nike slingshot oss 4-Pw I bought off craigslist. Lets just say me and these irons do not get along. I want something that is no where near as bulky as these things and not as heavy. I usually shoot around 102-110 and my biggest struggles are with my iron game except my 4-5 iron. What would be a good set to replace these with that once I get a little better will still work fine for me?

I recently was somewhat fitted for a driver. Basically the only place where I live I can hit a club before I buy it has a golf simulator. I hit two drivers and the guy who works there told me which one was best for me. What didn't seem right to me was my ball speed was anywhere from 155-170 and the simulator says that was good for 260 yards. My longest drive was 279 and that was with a ball speed of 171 mph. Is that accurate because I went to the driving range afterwards and was crushing the ball but can't tell how far because farthest flag was 250 yards.

Bag setup. Wanna add the 14th club.
jballard388 replied to Catelover's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Id get a Cobra amp cell 5-7 Wood. It has adjustable loft so you have from a 5 to 7 wood in one club. I have a Bio Cell Driver and love Cobra products but that is just Bias -
