  1. Played 9 holes at a local par 3 course this morning. Shot 3 pars, and finished up on the 9th hole with a nice 180 yard drive to the green using my 5 wood with only half a back swing. But I was left with a 40 yard putt which I managed for a birdie for a score of 6 over par 33 for the 9 holes which ties my best ever score for this course. i believe I could have done better, but my short pitches were not that great. It was my good putting today that allowed me to score as well as I did. No 3 putts today. Hooray!!!!!
  2. I set up to tee off on the 5th hole and noticed a flock of geese out on the fairway. Not paying much attention to the geese, I teed off with a low line drive and hit one of the geese. I turned to my golfing partner and said: "I got a birdie"
  3. If I get really good, maybe I will give this driver a try
  4. Too early to tell. I only tried it once on a 195 yd. par 3 and sailed the ball past the green and a wee bit to the left of it.
  5. A few years ago, I put a pool cue in my golf bag before hitting the links with my golf partner. When I took my bag of clubs out of the car, my golf partner noticed the pool cue sticking out of my bag, and he asked: "what is that for?" To which I replied that's my new putter.
  6. More funny that bizarre True story I went out early one morning to play a round of golf by myself. I got on the first tee and an elderly gentleman about 75 years of age came along and asked if I would mind if he played the round with me, to which I replied, I would love to have you join me. We began playing our round of golf and got to the 7th par 5 tee. I teed off and my sliced balled landed off to the right about 20 or so yards behind a tree. The elderly gentleman came over to check out what type of second shot I might have. After having looked over what I might be able to do next, he said, "the last time I ended up in that spot, I pulled out my 8 iron and lofted my ball over that tree and straight towards the pin." So I said, OK, it's worth a try, so out comes my 8 iron and I hit the ball, even made good contact. Up goes my ball and hits the tree and bounces back at my feet. I looked at my elderly partner and he looked at me and said, "The last time I was in that spot, that tree was a lot shorter" LOL
  7. Hello Mr. Desmond Nice to meet you as well as the other golf addicts in this forum. I would love to be able to hit a driver straight. I even bought a new Taylor Made Rocket Ballz Stage 2 driver regular shaft earlier this year. The only way I can hit the fairway with this driver is to slow my club speed down, and then I only get 170 180 yards with it. Whenever I try to increase the club speed using the driver the ball slices every time. The more club speed I add the bigger the slice. That's why I currently prefer my 9 wood with it's 26 degree angle of loft which is the angle of loft found on many 7 woods. I also have a 5 wood with a 22 angle of loft which might replace the 9 wood when driving into the wind. Crush em and drive em straight
  8. AmazingWhacker I did a bit of research and discovered that the 26 degree angle of loft on my Wild Thing 9 wood has the same angle of loft as some of the 7 woods, so that probably needs to be taken into consideration.
  9. David You are probably correct when you say that the yardage is measured to the center of the green. however my ball usually lands off to the right or left of the green and ends up lined up with the center of the green. Secondly due to the high loft on shots with this club combined with landing it the high grass, I notice the ball either sits or gets hardly any roll. My guess would be, that if I hit the green on the drive I would get a bit of roll probably to the back edge of the green.
  10. The proof that the numbers add up is that when I tee off with Wild Thing and the green is 205 yards away, I am able to reach the green with my drive with this club. I am just as surprised at the numbers as you are
  11. Yes, I have recently tried my driver as well as my 3 wood. I usually slice my driver big time and don't get any longer or straighter drive with my 3 wood than I do when I use the Wild Thing with the 26 degree loft which I hit straight. However, I will probably have to revert back to my 3 wood on windy days.
  12. What makes for a good day of golf for you? For me it could be any of the following ... 1. Not losing any balls in the water, rough or woods 2. Not having to 3 putt any holes 3. Hitting the fairway on the drive every time 4. Not under or over pitching the greens 5. A good day of putting and judging speed of greens 6. Not getting double bogies 7. Having my golf partner play a good round 8. Besting my previous best score
  13. Currently my Wilson Wild Thing 9 Wood and my PW would be my two clubs of choice
  14. Hello fellow golfers I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I am a senior golfer age 65. I just took up golf again this year after having giving it up for the last 8 years or so. I previous gave up golf because my game was horrible. But after have received a few lessons this spring combined with lots of practice my game has improved quite substancially. So much so that I have knocked 10-12 stokes off what I use to play before I gave up golf. Especially of Interest (at least to me is what follows) I recently bought a used Wilson Wild Thing 9 Wood which has a 26 degree loft. Since I can't hit normal drivers very well, I have found that I can usually hit this Wild Thing driver an unbelievable 190 - 210 yards if I make good contact and put extra effort into my swing to increase club speed to the best I can figure, around 100 MPH or so. And what's really important is that I have noticed that I usually hit the ball straight with this driver. I can believe the distance I have been able to drive with this club. This Wilson Wild Thing 9 wood has now become my long distance driver
