  1. very interesting I didn't know of this thread. Not sure I follow all the math. Not sure it makes 60 any harder out of sand though. In my case I'm sure its all about bounce
  2. all very useful---- although I have had some good results using pw square on. re all suggestions do you play with open face and stance and is same club config and method for both sand types
  3. many thanks for advice --- why are lob wedges harder to hit btw
  4. lowest bounce seems to be 6 ---- anyone got magic tip to get up high from hard base ( my wedges bounce into back of ball) or heavy soft damp sand that nearly breaks your wrists ---- to very small greens with high trap faces
  5. the whole high medium low handicap rationale when applying it to the clubs one can use is very misleading and some other yard stick needs to be invented, any takers? I taught myself to play with the help of a very few lessons years before caverty backs were invented. I have had a handicap of between 16 and 20 and it has had nothing to do with how well I strike the ball. I'm a careless putter and an indifferent chipper and my sand game is so so. My course management is also lousy and I'm not a grinder. So where in all this does my handicap have any relevance to what clubs I play. When I was a younger guy I could rip 3 iron blades with steel shafts no problem. and I dont see any reason a fit youngish guy cant do the same today with blades that are much easier. My advice with years of experience is find a set of clubs you really get a buzz out of and specially a putter you feel comfortable with and stick with them --- dont try to buy a better game twice a year when the big club makers tell you to Jerry
  6. I really lost my head a few months ago and found myself standing outside a golf shop with a set of forged blades MP 32s, onsale of course. Even worse they had steel shafts which I haven't played except in wedges since I bought my brand new Karsten 111s a few years ago!!! Well apart from the great price this moment of madness was probably the best thing I could have done to my game. From 6 up they are the easiest and most accurate irons I have ever played and the feel---- oh boy. The 5 I have to be a bit careful with, no sloppy swings but not that punishing on mishits. Now like many people I have a lot of brand new 3s and 4s in the cupboard but these 32s looked so great I had to try and play them and the care to make a good turn and stay behind the ball as compared to just whacking with my bricks on sticks has really paid off. Everything in my swing has improved specially my tempo which is much smoother and slower. By the way the shafts are Nippon nsprolight and I cant tell the difference from graphite but I guess they are more consistent in distance which is another plus. If you come across these clubs at a sale price buy them, they're worth every penny
  7. I was very surprised and happy at the generally supportive tone of most of the posts on this subject. The media in general and bloggers seem to take a delight in writing the same old negative comments eg how stupid she is not to sign her card, how its 5,6,7,8 tries at the pga cut without making it and now how she has missed her auto entry into the lpga tour because she didn't make 2nd and on and on. Not that she beat what a 100 plus regular pros? Not that she could easily have won the DQ event. I don't know what the problem is with these critics, what on earth has she done to deserve all this nastiness, she has never even played a seasons tour to get in the swing of things, she's just a part timer first at school then in college. Someone called it bordering on cruelty I'm sure she would have liked to have won in Canada but maybe she doesn't even plan to play full time on the lpga tour next year anyway. And why not have a few goes at playing with the guys, shes longer than many. Just what is it that makes this such an affront to the media. I dont recall a single sporting figure that has been the subject of such a sustained attack of ill will, tell me if you can think of anyone ---- and with all this forecasting of failure she can still play great golf, I'd be paralized with tension I think there is a silent majority that loves to see her play who wouldnt bother to watch anyone else just look at her galleries and they are there out of genuine interest not attending a freak show. Thanks for coming Michelle someone in the crowd called out. Ok end of my first post
