Wow, I can not believe this, but I love the Sumo2 5900 and the 3 wood for that matter. I saw the deal for the free fairway wood with the purchase of the driver in another older post and thought I would check it out because I was actually only looking for a new fairway wood. Unbelievable... I had always walked by those huge squares and rolled my eyes. I'm all for technology, but I thought moving into a square driver head was beyond my comfort level. I'm very consistent off the tee and play for accuracy not distance. I was hitting 260. Effortless drives are now carrying 275 to 280 and feel GOOD. I have the 9.5 w/ Aldila Stiff shaft. Great shaft!! I can pass on the Diamana but that was all that came in the fw wood. I'll be changing that out. If anyone reading this is even considering another driver or fw wood, check out the 5900, for $199 w/ driver and fw wood, that can't be beat. I am shocked and grateful at the same time. Thank you to whoever listed this deal in their post. Between these two clubs, I'm sure they're worth 3 -4 strokes a round. I was only able to get in 6 holes before the weather moved in, but from the tee, they were great holes.

Can anyone tell me what Diamana shaft comes in the Nike Sumo2 driver and fairway woods? I'd like to research the shaft options further but can't seem to find details other than you can order it with a Diamana shaft. Even better, do any of you have these woods and if so, what shaft did you choose and why? I currently play a Cobra 414 Comp driver with the pro force v2 65 shaft and I really don't care for it. I liked the driver better with the stock shaft. I have a swing speed varying from 102 - 105.

I love Cobra drivers but ....

Yes, I would complain about the parts supplier because we'd be talking about a part with the particular company's name written in big letters on it and they'd have their own market. Car owners would be talking about that particular part, maybe even include details about it in their signatures on forums... like people do with their shafts. We're not talking about some ball bearing made in Canada. If we want to equate this to a car part we can... so if you had new tires on your car, you'd be mad at Audi when a supposed state of the art Bridgestone tire blew and left you on the side of the road? -

My take, although no one cares, is that Cobra has only made one mistake, the wrong replacement shaft. The shaft manufacturer created the problem and with anything mass produced there will be a defect in one of thousands produced. I like the last take on it, a hat or shirt as a goodwill gesture, but I would never expect a company to compensate for an honest mistake. Although, it's rediculously frustrating. I'm curious to hear how it turns out, my guess would be that they will be somewhat flexible in how you'd like to handle it as far as sending you a shaft, but I wouldn't expect any further help if there is a problem as it is no longer "their" manufactured club. Let us know what happens. -
Momentus Heavy Club Training Aid

Whoa, I don't know what that's all about, but I'm also curious about the heavy club. I am devoted to becoming as flexible as possible this year. I really shortened up my swing last year because of flexibility. Surely it would help with flexibility. -
I'm not one to dispute opinions, but I would be willing to wager that most players with a handicap under, let's just pick a number, 18, can find noticeable differences in balls. I don't think you have to be scratch to experience the game changing difference a ball can make. I also see people playing 80's blades saying that clubs don't make a difference as they add up 102 for a round. Science is science. Technology makes a difference, even to those with higher handicaps, if not especially for those with higher handicaps. I could care less what people choose to play, but I do have to object to the idea that balls or any other equipment upgrades for that matter don't help the average golfer and I believe that is a 20+ handicap these days.

Callaway Tour i... because they are SWEET!!! Just fantastic. It's the only piece of "equipment" I'm devoted to. I've changed all of my clubs out over the past three years, but have never changed from the Callaway HX/Tour i.

Where do you get those mini-logos for your equipment in your signatures?

That's The Club at Bear Dance. I've never played the course. I'm pretty certain it would be an amazing day of golf.

So Interlocken is worth the hype? I drive by there and then look at their rates and wonder how it's possible, but until I play it I try to keep an open mind. There's a new course open, Cougar Canyon, in Trinidad. I would like to make it there this year, but who knows. It looks fantastic. I believe it was the #3 best new course by GD. The pictures I've seen look like it could be something special.

I've played courses in a lot of states, mostly west of the Miss, and I believe Colorado is one of the best golf destinations a person could wish for if you're looking for variety. Can I exclude California in that statement? California should be an asterisk, what amazing golf... A 2 hour drive can put you into beautiful mountain courses, fantastic links courses to the east and some very fun, inexpensive courses in the Denver area. Anyone have a few Colorado favorites? 1) Red Sky Golf Club 2) The Raven at Three Peaks 3) Arrowhead 4) Castle Pines 5) Fox Acres Geez, there are just too many "Very Good" to "Great" courses to list... If anyone out there isn't familiar with what is happening here with the pine beetle, you should look into the devastation this little pest has caused.

Yeah, they're sweet. The trajectory is fantastic. I've had a lower ball flight with my previous irons. This will be a welcomed change in the game. I can't wait to get off the mats and onto the grass.

I just picked up my first set of Mizunos yesterday, MX-25s. I've always played forged irons, Hogan's to Nike back to Hogans. I'm on my way to the range right now. I'd be very surprised if I'm not totally satisfied. It's always difficult to really get a feel for irons when you're hitting indoors. Okay, I need to stop posting and just get out there and hit them. Maybe I'll be the next to drink the Mizuno kool-aid... It's ironic, I was talking to the club pro yesterday morning about shopping for new irons and he suggested Mizuno. I said something to the effect of "you Mizuno guys, it's like some sort of cult." I wonder if I'm about to be a follower...

I have to agree with the '09 Vokey Spin Milled wedges. Just picked up my new 56.08 and that club is SWEET! I'm ready to change out my old Vokey 52 and Cleveland 60. They do shred the ball, wow.
-
Oh... so you have to hit greens. Must be time for new clubs!

This is a pretty generic question which is probably difficult to answer... but anyway... how do you determine the wear/impact the club face has on performance? I have a set of Hogan Apex Plus irons and the 9 has a few gouges and most in general have visible wear on the face. How do you determine replacement time? Do you have the groove depth measured?

It's time for my spring golf gift to myself. I'm torn between a set of Nike Victory Red split cavity backs or a twilight membership. The attraction to the membership is unlimited use of the driving range and the chance to get out once in awhile and play. "Normally" I would choose the membership because I love to play, but now I have a 2 yr old daughter and 6 month old son so the availability of time is limited. My wife is very understanding, but I don't know if she's good with a couple days a week and some weekend practice time. That might be pushing it. The downside to the membership is twilight. It starts at 3:00 (northern Colorado). If I could play earlier, I'd play more so it didn't have as much of an impact on the evenings with the family. On to the irons... I haven't even hit the Nike's yet, but I haven't read one bad review on them. A long time ago I played the pro combo's and I loved that set of clubs. Now I play Hogan Apex Plus. I think the hogan's are one of the best "feeling" sets of irons I've ever hit, but this particular set just doesn't do it for me. I'm a consistent ball striker, there's just something about this set. It could be completely mental, but I bet most of you know how "real" of a problem that can be in golf. So, I can gamble on the chance I will get to play and practice enough to recoup the upfront cost of the membership... or I could purchase a set of irons that I will use for multiple years... What would you do? I just don't know that I will have the time to get my money out of the membership. Hmmmmm..... Oh, and I love to buy clubs. So I have to balance that out. There's a good chance next year there will be something new that I have to have.

GREAT THREAD! I was recently talking to someone about K.C. being an underrated golf destination for the $. Of course in K.C. most of my favorites bounce around both Kansas and Missouri, but staying in Kansas I like the following... These are ranked by combination of value and quality. (Private courses excluded) 1) Sycamore Ridge - Overall great course 2) Colbert Hills - Love the challenge, can really play long 3) Ironhorse - Mature course, good service 4) Southwind - Took advantage of what little SW Kansas land has to offer 5) Deer Creek - A couple of holes push this course up into the top 5 Might as well include the private courses... 1) Wolf Creek 2) Shadow Glen 3) Prairie Dunes 4) Alvamar 5) LionsGate Thinking about courses back in Kansas makes me want to start a thread to give credit to some of the great Missouri courses as well. If there isn't a thread started, I'll start one, but now I have to leave to go play in the Colorado rain, Pelican Lakes.

As you can see, grip preference is pretty individualized. I like change, so I have tried a lot of grips over the years. At this point, I have never been happier with a grip then the Golf Pride Multi-compound Decade. Wow, they have a great combination of no-slip grip and soft feel. To me its the best grip out there.

Great, thank you! I'll check it out.

I just purchased a used set of Hogan Apex Plus irons w/ Hogan stiff shafts. There is something wrong. I had a temporary set of Apex Plus irons w/ Hogan stiff shafts while I was waiting for these to arrive (also had hogans before). The feel of the temp set was sweet! It was the famous Hogan "sweet as butter" feel. However this new set feels "dead". No pop, no soft feel. Also, to throw more into this, I am hitting a fade with these. I have a very good, consistent swing and this fade is new to hitting these irons. I have a set of dynamic gold S300s just sitting here collecting dust. Would it be a bad idea to change the shafts out? Is it possible that shafts could cause the "dead" feel and also cause the new fade? Could it simply be the grips? I do know from research that the hogan shafts are not as stiff as the S300s. My swing speed is 100 - 105 with my driver. I would really appreciate any insight into this. Thanks, Brad

Hey, just moved out to Northern Colorado from K.C. There are some good courses there, K.C. is underrated as an affordable golf destination.

I am a nursing home administrator and also run a senior living campus. Unfortunately it's not on a golf course...
