  1. Yeah I'm pretty settled on a 5 wood. I'm looking for 190 to 200 yards with it. I'd use it primarily as my second shot on par 5's as long as I have a good lie. As it stands now I have the urge to pull my 3 wood out and that simply is not working. It's a lot of things as to why. I think most of it has to do with the urge to knock the snot out of it for maximum distance and I screw it up. If I do hit good with it I'm usually really loose and mentally relaxed. It seems to be a club that I loose control of. Where with my hybrids I often get good results when I really give them the onion. Shorter clubs equal more control. If the 5 wood doesn't fill my need I think I'll start shopping for a 2 hybrid in a 17 degree loft.
  2. I have been using a Cobra Amp 3 Wood. But like I said it causes me more problems than good. I tee off with it well, but on my home course it isn't needed off the tee. Prior to this I had a Nike VRS 3 Wood and was even worse with it. My irons are Cobra Baffler XL's. I bought the set that had 4h-6h and then 7 to Gap in irons. I only game the 5 hybrid out of that set though. So right now in my bag: Driver Cobra Amp Cell, 3 Wood Cobra Amp, 3 & 4 Hybrid Adams Idea Tech V4, 5 H Cobra Baffler XL, 6 iron Callaway Razr XF, 7 to GW Cobra Baffler XL's, 55 and 61 degree Cobra Trusty Rusty Wedges and a 33 1/2 inch Odyssey Dual Force 550 putter. Out of all those I am most displeased with the 3 wood, I'm thinking of switching wedges too. But who knows thats a whole new can of worms there.
  3. I looked at 2 hybrids and really like that Cobra Fly Z. But I am a notorious cheapskate and usually buy used or demo clubs, or if I do get new its at a deep discount for an old new club. So I was looking around on the internet and ran across some reviews of the Cobra Amp Cell Fairway Woods. All were pretty favorable. The 5-7 Wood adjust from 17 to 20 degrees. So at its lowest setting it would be 2 degrees lower that my current 3 hybrid. I'm thinking I might shop for one. It's a two year old model now and I should be able to get one for pretty cheap. If not Adams makes a 17 degree Super Black 2h in left hand that I may try. I really like Adams Hybrids, I bag Idea Tech V4 3 and 4 hybrids and they are the bees knees.
  4. My 3 hybrid is an Adams Idea Tech V4 it's got 19 degrees of loft. I think it's got a 40 inch shaft. My fear with going to a 4 wood is that its length is still so close to that of a 3 wood that I' still have trouble controlling it. Plus being a lefty I don't have as many choices in clubs as righty's do.
  5. I am wanting to take my 3 wood out of the bag. I cringe when using it and it causes far to many meltdowns on par 5's. Would a better option be a 5 wood? Right now I drive about 220 to 230 with my driver. On a good strike off the deck I might get 200 out of my 3 wood. But lack any consistency with it. My next club in my bag is a 3 hybrid. I'm pretty consistent with it and get 180 to 190 out of it. So I guess my question is what kind of yardage differences can I expect between a 5 wood and a 3 hybrid? Or are they too close in yardage to see any real benefit in carrying a 5 wood?
  6. I'm a bargain hunter. Last year I got back into golf after a 20 year layoff. I didn't want to play with really old stuff so I started buying online and going to golf stores and hunting. Driver- Cobra Amp Cell $72 off Ebay, also just recently purchased a an Aldila Phenom shaft for $27 off ebay as an upgrade to the stock shaft. 3 woods- Cobra Amp $25 demo from Golfsmith or sometimes I bag a Nike VRS used club from Golfsmith $10 3 Hybrid- Adams Idea Tech v4 $19 demo from Golfsmith 4h, 5h, 6h, 7 iron-Gap Wedge - Cobra Baffler XL's- open box, only two weren't still in the factory plastic, off ebay for $175. 6 iron- Callaway Razr forged Golfsmith demo $1.99. I take my 6 hybrid out and game this from time to time, if I'm hitting my irons well! 55 & 61 degree Cobra Trusty Rusty Wedges- used from Golfsmith at $27 a piece Odyssey DF 550 putter- $20 used from play it again sports. I had 1 and 1/2 inches taken off and regripped at Nevada Bobs for $27. Used Cobra golf bag off ebay for $25. All for a grand total of $455.99.

  9. I had a trip to Arizona in January so I bought an Izzo brand net and a little turf mat with a rubber tee. I swung all my clubs everyday for about a month prior to my trip. I hit each club about 25 times a day. I hit real balls and had it set up in my living room. Well any how I went on my trip as planned and I struck the ball well. When I came home I didn't hit into the net for a few weeks then decided to hit some balls one evening and hooked one terribly into my window! The curtains were drawn so it slowed it down a bit but I did end up breaking the first pane out. That ended my indoor practice with live balls. My wife made me take the net down and put it in the garage for the rest of the winter!
  10. Cool, I too work for a tribe.-The Minnesota Chippewa Tribe as an Employment Specialist. Been here for 10 years. Newer to golf. I goofed around a bit with it when I was younger. But got back into it last year and am consumed with it now!
  11. Driver- Cobra Amp Cell usually set to 9.5*draw with reg flex Fujikura Fuel 3 wood- Nike VRS 15* w/ reg flex Mitsubishi Fubuki 3 Hybrid- Adams Idea Tech 4 19* w/ stiff flex Mitsubishi Bassara 4, 5, & 6 Hybrid- Cobra Baffler XL's regular flex Cobra graphite 6 iron- Callaway XF 7, 8, 9, PW, & GW- Cobra Baffler XL irons w/regular flex Cobra graphite Wedge- Cobra Trusty Rusty 55* w/Winn Dri Tec grip Putter- Odyssey DF550 with Winn Midsize Grip All in a ratty Cobra bag. I use a Golf Buddy Voice GPS Rangefinder(Play mostly cheapy courses that don't have nice GPS units in the carts) I carry both a 6 iron and a 6 hybid as I grow as a golfer I am transitioning from needing a true hybrid in the mid iron range. If I'm hitting my irons well and I need the 6 distance I hit the 6 iron, if I'm hitting cruddy iron shots I will grab the hybid. I plan on buying a high lofted wedge above my 55* and when I do I will likely move the 6 hybrid out of the bag. I also switch out my Nike 3 wood to a Cobra Amp 3 wood from course to course. I hit the Nike off the deck better, but I like teeing the Cobra up.
