@iacas can you elaborate more on the following paragraph: These are all basically right up in front of your nose, or because the left elbow doesn't bend, it's in front of your right pec.

Appreciate the input and kind words!

Hey guys, I have been putting in some work this spring with a local pro and a friend who is very low handicap. I wanted to post an updated swing video and try to get some more feedback from you guys. Basically, my wedges/irons are getting way up in the air, a little higher than I would like. I am also still having some issues with hitting the ground/mat before the ball, which causes my speed to drastically decrease and me to often hit shots to the right. Any suggestions on what to focus on next?

It's like no matter how much I try I can't get it to bend. It's quite embarrassing. Not sure if I am just gripping too hard and locking my arms at the start or what. Sometimes I have to really work to get it to bend. I'm trying to figure out some ways to make that easier for me. It should be easy, but for some reason, I can't execute it.

I've tried them for what feels like weeks on end. It's almost like there is something missing or a mental block stopping me from doing something critical.

Having trouble hitting the heel of the club... Any advice?

If you mean left and right handed, both of these are right hand videos. One is just the camera angle. If you mean my swing being this horizontal, it depends on the day

Will Getting Fit For Irons Make A Difference?

Thanks for all suggestions. I have updated my swing thread: -
Update: I've been Playing Golf for: 7 Years My current handicap index or average score is: 20 My typical ball flight is: Drives typically straight, Irons typically draw, hybrids & woods I cannot hit The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: I cannot hit hybrids, 3 woods, or anything longer than a 5 iron. It is really starting to mentally get to me. ------ See videos below. Take it easy on me, I know my swing plane is horizontal. I cannot hit my hybrids, they don't leave the ground. I can everything else comfortable.

Will Getting Fit For Irons Make A Difference?

Small update on this. I went to the range last night to work some more on this and was able to get some progress with my hybrid and 5-iron with only a small issue. I noticed that I am keeping both of my arms deadlocked the entire time which only allows my backswing to get about 50% back. However, this was working in regards to getting more flight and distance. Occasionally I would still top the ball. No videos since I was alone but I did manage to find a picture that is similar to how ugly my back-swing is looking... I've attached it. -

Will Getting Fit For Irons Make A Difference?

Thanks for the advice. I am going to try and get out to the range this week to record some videos of me hitting driver, 5-iron, and 7-iron for comparison. I will post them in a swing thread. The local pro did actually attempt to help me with the swing. He was telling me that my posture was not correct and that my hips were leading the swing too soon. We tried a flat-foot 9:00 - 3:00 swing with my 5-iron for a good hour and we had a little luck but I can't get my back-swing vertical enough at this point. I have a Garmin S60 and these are my average distances over the PAST 2 WEEKS. Keep in mind, I don't hit my 3-Wood or Hybrids because I can get absolutely no lift on them at all.... Will Getting Fit For Irons Make A Difference?
johnclark12 replied to johnclark12's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
He did mention that the fitting was free if I bought clubs. He also said he would not want to touch the M1's. Apparently they were reshafted before I bought them and it wasn't done the best way to the point where he didn't want to alter the clubs. Not sure if he is being honest with me or not 😆 -
Hey guys, I know this sounds like an obviously stupid question but I wanted to get some input from you guys on a situation I am in right now. I am having A LOT of trouble hitting my 5 and 6 irons to the point that I can't get them to go past 150 yards or off the ground much of the time. My swing speed is very slow for my age (mid-20's) I decided to take up some lessons with a local pro taking my M1 Graphite Shaft Irons. A few minutes in he immediately told me that my swing plane was so horizontal that I would need to focus on getting more vertical for these clubs to work for me. At the end of my lesson, he told me that if I wanted to keep my current swing and improve my distance/score, it would likely work much much better if I was custom fit for some SIM MAX irons with proper lie adjustment, shaft, etc. I can hit my driver over 260 without any trouble and have my wedges dialed in pretty well also. I was hitting my 7 iron 150-155 and my 8,9,PW as long as I should be also. The problem lies when I try to use a hybrid, a 5 iron, or a 6 iron. If I am playing a long Par 4 of a Par 5, it often takes me too long to get to the green that I am looking at a bogey at best. My question is will getting custom fit for these SIM MAX irons, or any irons for that matter, truly make a difference for it to be worth it? I am a 19 HCP and struggle with distance after my tee shot. This local pro made it sound like I would be fine with my current swing and a new set of custom fit irons. I have been through different sets of irons over the years (R9, Steelhead, M1) but have never been truly custom fit. With your estimation, what do you actually think the end result will be if I get custom fit?

Hey guys, Went out for 9 yesterday and have been seeing improvements. Initially, it appears I am standing with the ball too much towards my front (left) foot. I moved back a little and worked on keeping my arms straight and had 100+ yard iron hits landing within 10 feet of the hole on 7, 8, and 9 of my course. My wrist motions towards the end of the swing were also a bit too stiff it appears.
-
I've also been told by some that using R9 irons are generally not preferred for high handicapped golfers. When I was using generic TopFlite last year I would sometimes actually drive with them because I was having trouble with the driver. I have not ever tried them again since switching to these R9's. Is that a possible root of the problem?

Hey guys, I have been playing for about 6 years now, see my swing here - MY SWING Ever since last summer when I bought new irons off of ebay (did not get fit) I just can't hit them. They skid across the ground or if they do get air they go straight right. With my driver and hybrid I am not having any issues and can hit straight and long. Does not getting fit have that drastic of a difference that you will see horrible shots like this?

Hey guys. Have not posted here in awhile so I wanted to give an update as I am still seeking some help. I've been Playing Golf for: Casually for 6 years My current handicap index or average score is: 100 for 18 holes handicap around 24 (Due to bad 2nd shot every time) My typical ball flight is: Drives typically straight or right, irons never leave the ground or go extremely right The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: 2nd shot every hole with 5,6,7 iron!!!!! I can hit hybrid on Par 5's. I am having a terrible time hitting irons. If I do a half backswing I can get it to go straight and high but only like 100 yards no matter what club I am using. I think I am having a hard time keeping my elbow straight but no matter what I try I can't get this issue fixed. Anybody have any kind of advice or drills to try? ---------- Iron Swing

Everything BUT Wedges go straight!

Thanks for the suggestions. Tied up for the weekend with being here at the US Open but will give it a try. 3:00 is barely an exaggeration also, it gets that bad sometimes 😣 -
Everything BUT Wedges go straight!
johnclark12 replied to johnclark12's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Normally within 30 yards of the green. Now that you mention it. I was on a Par 3 this past weekend and used the wedge from about 60 yards out and it landed within 5 feet of the hole on the green. I'd like to add that when it goes way to the right as I mentioned, it does not get NEARLY as much lift as when it goes straight. We are talking maybe 10-15 feet in the air -
I have been having a hefty problem lately that I can't seem to solve. I can hit my driver, 6 - 8 irons straight and far without any issues. Lately I have been having a major issue with the 9 iron, pitching wedge, and sand wedge (mostly the first 2). If I aim for the hole (12 o'clock), the ball will sail directly right (2-3 o'clock). To my knowledge I am NOT pulling my head and it gets very frustrating to the point I have been using a putter on the fairway when I am 50 feet from green, because I get better and more accurate hit. Why would it be only the high numbered clubs that I have trouble with? To be fair, I don't use the 8 very often, mostly the 6,7, and wedges. Any advice?

Thanks guys I made one -

Having a large amount of trouble getting drives to come off the ground and my irons are the same way. I've been Playing Golf for: Casually for 4 years My current handicap index or average score is: 120 for 18 holes handicap around 30 (Due to bad drives every time) My typical ball flight is: Pull, almost always go right no matter what club I use The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Just trying to hit the ball into the air so it goes further, Would also like to correct the hooks Videos: MORE VIDEOS COMING SOON

I am having 2 major issues as of late that are taking my motivation and passion away from the game. 1. Referring to the following image - Golf Driver I keep hitting the ball with the top left black corner of the club, and my ball sails very high into the air and goes way to the right where its usually unplayable. 2. When I use any iron on the fairway or rough, the ball NEVER lifts for more than a few seconds. It will pretty much skim across the ground and go anywhere from 20-50 yards. I can very rarely get anything besides the wedge to get any lift. If anyone has absolutely any advice or tips it would be very appreciated.
