It's that time of year again in Minnesota!! Swinging the club again and took some videos and I would love for some advice! Over the winter I worked on keeping weight in the heels to avoid thrusting my hips toward the ball (hence the alignment stick next to my behind in the video). So far, seems like my divots are a little shallower and contact is a bit more consistent. What jumps out to you guys with my swing? Looks like my backswing may be a tad long. Thanks for the help!!

Question on getting fit for clubs
Bgoods1221 replied to Bgoods1221's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thank you all for the replies. I am learning a lot! I guess what I was really asking in my question was what is most important fitting wise with clubs already owned? Obviously anything with shaft adjustment wouldn't be cost effective so what else could I be fit for that would help my game the most? -
Question on getting fit for clubs
Bgoods1221 replied to Bgoods1221's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Appreciate the responses guys! To @onthehunt526, other than length, lie, and shaft is there anything else that is "fit"? To @Hacker James - with the Nike clubs I just bought, I'm guessing you would recommend finding a local pro to do a fitting opposed to say someone at Golf Galaxy? Also, very interesting article! My only question is if a mid/high handicapper's swing is going to undergo lots of swing changes, would it still be worth it to spend money on getting fit and then possibly having to do it all over again in a couple years (if said golfer truly does change his swing)? -
Can anyone recommend to me whether or not I should be fit for clubs? I just picked up some sweet Nike Vapor Pro Combos from a buddy and they are standard length/lie. I still have a lot to work on in my swing so I am wondering if it is worth it to get fit if there will be future swing changes. I have heard from multiple pros that getting fit for clubs is more important for the "better" player. Is this true? I don't think I would consider myself a better player but I think I am getting there which is why I am considering getting fit. Let me know what you guys think!!

I realize this might not be the place to post this type of question but I think it would be beneficial for people to see my swing before answering the question!

Finally got a couple videos of the swing. Recently, I have been hitting a lot of push fades and it has been quite frustrating, especially with the driver. Only things I can think of that might cause the push fade in my swing is my grip along with maybe an over-rotation of my hips on the downswing. The reason being maybe because it would cause my hands to drag a little behind, causing a push? Not really sure... Any help is appreciated!!

Finally got some good video of my swing. I've successfully eliminated my slice but now I've got a problem with an overdraw. I feel like my swing is more in-to-out pathwise but I am not sure. Occasionally I can hit a push draw and the ball ends on my target line but mostly it either starts straight and draws or does a pull-draw. What would this be from? Does my grip need to be weakened?

That's an interesting contraption. I'll have to look into that! The "firing everything too early" comment makes sense to me as I have noticed that from time to time. Definitely a baseball type movement. Will work on letting arms hang freely. I'm sure it will be uncomfortable at first but thanks for the advice Mike!

I appreciate the comment! A boost of confidence if nothing else so thank you!!

Thanks Mike, great advice!! I feel sometimes I think a little too much about fundamentals and forget about the feels! On a side note, I have had the dreaded shanks off and on with short irons mostly and I know that usually comes from a drastic out to in swing path resulting in a hosel hit so is that what is happening with me?

It's 50 degrees here in Minnesota (woo!!) so I thought I would take a quick video of my swing and see how its progressing over the winter months... Looks like the shaft is much more vertical when my left arm is parallel in the backswing (working on this to help create more of an in-to-out swing path). Also, my head seems a little more stable in the backswing. Let me know what you guys think :)

And shoulder/feet alignment :)
-
That makes sense. Is there anything else pertaining to my posture that needs tweaking? Besides softening the lower back
-
Wow I hadn't even noticed that, will definitely work on that. Thank you!
-
I took a break from the site to really focus on keeping the head still. Still some movement but better than before. Also worked on producing a more in-to-out swing path. Lower back still has a little "S" shape to it as well. Sorry about the camera angle, I know it's a little off center :/
-
Well I've been doing some practicing at the range and seems like my head is more still. Swing plane still sets me up for a slice tho so much more work still needed but that was to be expected! Was wondering if my setup and posture is good?

Welcome bud! As stated above, you have a good base to start with, and good shoulder turn. I agree you could involve your hips more (video below will help with that). One thing that I noticed is that once you start your downswing, your hands unhinge too early and create a casting effect, and that will make your contact a little bit sporadic. Something that could help get you a more consistent ball flight as well as more distance is called "golf lag". Below is a great drill to help you get golf lag and eliminate the casting!

I read over the thread on golf grip and I think I have the correct grip but just wanted to make sure so here it is! Let me know what you guys think :)

Awesome. I love the idea of the diagonal sweetspot drill. I've been trying to find a drill just like this and you hit it spot on! Thanks Mike!

Thanks for the tips Mike! Very helpful! In regards to my takeaway, are there any drills you particularly like?

I've been Playing Golf for: Around 6 years on and off (play baseball as well so tough to get in a lot of rounds) My current handicap index or average score is: 20 My typical ball flight is: Straight with irons (mostly) but fade or slice with driver The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Would love to stop slicing Videos: Any help is greatly appreciated :)

Hey guys and gals! My name is Brandon and I'm from a suburb of the Twin Cities in Minnesota. I am 20 years old (soon to be 21) and attend college where I play baseball! This summer I have really gotten in to playing golf and I am in love! I realize I am not playing baseball at the next level so figured I could get a headstart on golf. Lately, I have been watching and reading golf nonstop, trying to find every bit of knowledge I can to improve my game. I am in the midst of finding my handicap (only have to record 2 more scores) but I would guess it would be around 20. With that said, I am looking forward to diving into this site and getting better as a golfer as well as hopefully helping others with their game! Brandon
