  2. Thanks for all the great advice. After that bad day at the range my next outing was an 18 hole round with my brother in law. Just before I left for the course my re-gripped Ping putter arrived back from Ping repair service. At the course on the putting green I lined up about a 10 foot first put and drained it. Although my score was a 100+ I had a great day on the course and walked the entire 18 holes with my Bag Boy push cart. A member of our foursome had a seat in a power cart waiting for me if I got too tired from walking. WOW! What a difference a different day can make! Thanks guys for bringing this all into perspective. Not only were my puts sinking but I also hit some monster drives (for me) and landed a few in the fairway. I am hooked on the game again so now I will punish myself again and head back to the driving range this afternoon. viva la golf.
  3. I am getting back into golf after an absence of 25 years. I've bought modern, fitted clubs. I've also taken a number of recent lessons. When I was at the driving range on Friday I was consistently making good shots and some spectacular shots (for me), including a 300 yard drive. I went home elated that now I have the shot making capability to play a decent game that won't embarrass me on the course. Well today I went back to the driving range and had a hard time hitting the ball square. As opposed to about 80% of my shots being decent like Friday's, about 80% were bad to horrible. I am not asking for swing instruction. I am asking for knowledge about how you folks deal with a really bad day when you know there is better golf in you but you can't seem to get it out. Anyone care to share their approach to a bad day on the range or the course?
  4. Thanks for the comment newtogolf. I am looking at a Bennington cart bag that has slots that lock the irons into each hole. This seems like a much better approach than individual head covers. The only downside to these is the initial price. Oh well, no one said that golf was cheap.
  5. It is the noise and chatter that bother me the most.
  6. I have of set of oversize head covers that have a hole formed into them to allow for a cord to be run through it to connect all the head covers together. I'm thinking that the oversize covers will allow for quickly removing and replacing the head covers. Connecting them all by cord will insure that I don't misplace any covers. I just need to figure out the cleaning process and I'll have it?
  7. Recently retired from career in public land management. Now full-time golfer wanabe!
  8. Glad to have found this site. It looks like the resource I need after being out of the game for 28 years. I took golf in college as a physical education credit and fell in love with the game. I nearly flunked out of college my junior year because of it. Motorcycle racing and a professional career took me away from golf. Now that I'm retired and my temperament has mellowed I'm anxious to get on the course again. I tried one time a year ago and realized that I had lost everything but the desire. The golf instructor (who is my age) said that my clubs were old fashioned. With that I went out and bought all new clubs except for my sand wedge and my Ping putter. I've been surprised by the advances in equipment but somewhat disappointed In the rulemaking bodies. It reminds me of when they started restricting the motors in the Indy cars. Now I am trying to sort out what equipment is allowed and what is not. As a senior player I can use all the distance help I can get but not at the risk of using "illegal" clubs. Anyway, it is good to find you folks, Dan
  9. Thanks for all the input. Rust is a big concern for me as I golf in the Pacific Northwest, otherwise known as the rain forest. My previous irons were stainless steel and I didn't have any problem with rust. Based on what I'm hearing here I won't pay too much attention to the fashion police on the Golf Channel.
  10. I hear folks talking on the Golf channel about placing head covers on irons. Their comments seem to be derisive towards those that would use head covers for irons. What gives? Am I misinterpreting what they are saying or is there some new fad to leave irons exposed? I am getting back into golf after a 25 year absence and there have been a number of changes to the game, mostly involving equipment. I have a new set of irons and I do want to protect them from damage. Your thoughts please.
