  2. Bit late replying to this, but in case anyone stumbles across this in the future, the reason I was pushing my irons right, and also topping, was because my head was moving forward (left - I'm right handed) through impact. It took my teacher about 3 seconds to diagnose. While I was pushing my shoulder forward, my head was following. The cure is to look at the ball through my left eye, so my head stays back. As a bonus, when I keep my head back, but push my shoulder through, I release my hands better and get more club head speed.
  3. Thanks for your input. I might have the same problem as you. Keep me posted on your findings from the range. I played this evening and lost 2 balls on one hole because of it. Even placing the ball forward in my stance made little difference. At one point I thought it might be something to do with keeping my hands and club in front (out from) my body, but I don't know. Might be time for another lesson...
  4. I recently started pushing my mid irons and hybrids right. I could lose several balls a round, sometimes several on one hole. I eventually found a fix - placing the ball further forward in my stance, about where some people might place it for driver. I'm getting by with this, but I'd like to know if I'm doing something wrong. It seems to me when the ball is further forward I tend to make my whole swing with my weight on my left foot - not sure if that anything to do with it. Thanks in advance.
  5. I'm planning on getting either a Sony Smartwatch 3 or Asus Zenwatch 2 or a Pebble 2, mainly for golf, but also as a toy I can muck around with. I don't really want a dedicated golf gps watch. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
  6. It's a nice looking club and it reviews very well, but I can't hit it consistently yet. it bends less than my 3 hybrid, but still too much to use on the course. I only hit about 10 balls though. I think my next lesson will be devoted to it.
  7. I played today and left my hybrid and wood in the bag, and only hit 4 to 6 irons off the tee, depending on the width of the fairway. I only lost 2 balls and hit almost all fairways! The trade off was I got no birdies and only a few pars. Still, my scores were impressive (for me). I think this kind of strategy limits most of the really horrible shots, and the penalty strokes that go with them. Good advice, thanks.
  8. Thanks for the advice. I am indeed hooking the ball, and the new 5 wood I bought is really bad for hooks (as is my hybrid, and so was my driver). I don't really hook my irons much. I'm wondering if I should try a driving iron, or some iron biased utility club, until I get a handle on the hooking.
  9. Thanks for all the advice. I just ordered an Adams Tight Lies 2 5 wood. I got it dirt cheap - €60 brand new. Why are Adams clubs so cheap?
  10. Good advice! Pity I sold the bloody thing...
  11. 10.5 stiff. When I hit it at all, I usually get the right trajectory, and it goes quite far. I tend to miss to the left (which my teacher tells me is a good thing, apparently). I was leaning toward a driving iron or a hybrid that looked more like an iron than a wood, but maybe I will give a 5 wood a go. What do you guys think of lofted drivers or mini drivers? I get the point about distance = more trouble. I think I might go to my local golf shop and try a 3 and a mini driver as well as a 5 wood. There seems to be a consensus that driving irons are impossible to hit, and I am far from being a perfect iron striker.
  12. Don't I know it! I was hoping maybe science had bridged the gap somehow and invented a utility iron, or something, that might be as easy to hit as say a 5 iron but go maybe the distance of a 2 iron. Wishful thinking i suppose.
  13. I have been taking lessons and am hitting my irons quite well, but I still can't hit a driver with any consistency (aeroburner). I have a Wilson 3 hybrid which I can't hit very well either. I hit my irons quite far. My 6 goes approx 160 to 170 yards. I know in time, if I continue taking lessons and practicing, I will learn to hit a driver, but meanwhile I would like a few more yards off the tee. What are the alternatives? I was thinking of getting a driving iron or utility club of some description that looks like an iron, and is a similar length...
  14. I'm just getting back into golf after a long break, and really starting to enjoy it (unlike last time!). If any of you are ever over here on holidays, or business, give me a shout and we might be able to meet for a round. I play with a bunch of random guys I found on the internet, and they are all pretty nice.
