  1. After another mixed-bag round with periods of okay shots, the odd good shot and some complete duffs, I was thinking about how long it takes most people to get past that stage. To me, as someone who has only played 4-5 months, I feel as though once I become able to consistently strike the ball well on 80%+ of shots I will come to get more enjoyment out of the game. So I was curious about roughly how long it took you guys to get past the stage of worrying about simply making good contact with the ball, to the point where you're just thinking about slightly thin/fat shots or misdirection. I know even good players have horrible shots but I'm talking about where you step up and 8/10 shots are at least struck well. Obviously how often you played and had lessons are factors that would be worth mentioning.
  2. I'm not sure what my "wrist to ground" is but I have had my reach measured before (wing span if you like) and I know it was average for my height but obviously that brings shoulder width etc into account, which is also average so I suspect my arm length is not above average relative to height. I was not measured in Vegas no, it was a lesson at Top Golf where the instructor did what he described as a mock fitting during the hour based on what he saw and suggested I get +1.5" and 3 deg upright. I was given clubs with these adjustments during the lesson and it seemed to help me. The adjustments were done back home in the UK so he didn't stand to gain anything by making these suggestions to me so I have no reason to suspect it was anything underhanded. Whether or not the length and/or lie adjustment was the correct thing to do obviously I'm not qualified to say but it felt fine during the lesson so I took the advice of the professional. I'll try and get that wrist to ground measurement to see what the deal is, thanks.
  3. I think that's something that I will look into definitely, thanks. Thank you, from the UK I actually had my clubs lengthened 1.5" after a lesson on holiday in Vegas. I'm 6'4" so I suspected I'd need longer clubs so didn't question it. I do think this started after having that done but I'm not sure if they're necessarily too long? Thanks for the reply.
  4. Thanks for both these responses. I did actually post a swing thread as my very first post. It didn't get any replies but I appreciate people are reluctant to help someone who hasn't contributed to the forum: This was a couple of months ago and I have only been playing 4 months or so in total so my swing looks different from this now because relative to how long I've been playing it was a while ago, although I can see that my head moves backwards during the backswing so amished's advice may well be something I need to look at.
  5. This is only my second post on the forum but I'd appreciate any advice from you guys. I've got a soul destroying problem with hitting fat shots constantly so naturally assumed the likely problem was not shifting my weight forward enough, so I tried a drill where you place the ball six inches in front of your club at address and then attempt to strike the ball to get an exaggerated feeling of shifting forward onto the left leg. Turns out as soon as I tried it I started connecting sweetly! After a few shots I then moved the ball back to a normal position and seemed to hit chunky shots again which seems really counter-intuitive. Is this likely to be some sort of weird physiological problem or could it be that the bottom of my swing was actually too far forward and the opposite of what I thought? My understanding is that fat shots are hitting the ground before the ball so I can't quite get my head round it. Any thoughts appreciated, thanks!
  6. First post and newbie player alert! Recently started playing and been taking it fairly seriously. Had my clubs lengthened 1.5" and lie adjusted 3 deg upright after my (only) lesson in Vegas which fixed me pushing the ball at the time, and had me hitting it pretty straight albeit a bit fat. Came home and had my own clubs adjusted and now I am hitting the ball fat all the time, sometimes horrendously. I'm assuming it's partially needing time to adjust to the clubs but I'm sure there will be something I can sort out with my swing to try and prevent it. Could only record a practice swing in my garden, if I need one actually hitting the ball then I'll have to go and get that at the range. Any advice is appreciated, thanks. I've been Playing Golf for: ~ 2 months My current handicap index or average score is: 60 (local 9 hole course) My typical ball flight is: Fade/Slice The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Slice previously, recently fat shots Videos: https://vid.me/EQwx https://vid.me/QKZR
