  1. Thanks all. Just to clear up the confusion, they have the 2008 Tour Burner (not TP), and the 2008 Regular Burner Driver, at the same price of $150 New. From what I am reading, the club face on the Tour Burner is a little smaller and the shaft better but a little stiffer. I'm 6'2 so I think the long shafts these drivers come stock with will suit me well. Also, I found out the High Trajectory is 13 degrees loft. So my options are: 2008 Tour Burner 10.5 Driver 2008 Burner 10.5 Driver 2008 Burner High Trajectory Driver (13 degree loft). Would like a few more opinions. Am leaning with the Tour Burner but is that too advanced for me? Anyone who has these/hit these clubs have any input? Thanks a bunch.
  2. I can get either the regular Burner Driver or the Black TP Driver for $150 at Dick's. I am a beginner with a high handicap, but can hit the driver somewhat straight, just not very far (205-215). Swing speed is 85. What would be ideal for me? What's the difference between the 2? Also should I go with the 10.5 Loft or High Trajectory (What's the loft on the HJ?). Any suggestions of flex? First time buying a driver so thanks a lot for the input.
  3. Also, can someone recommend a putter? I have been using the Callaway Tuttle, and I hate that thing. I'll go to the Golfsmith green and try out a few, but is there any consensus good beginner putter? Would like to spend around $50 for a used.
  4. FYI: I bought the clubs yesterday and to my chagrin found out there is a coupon Golfsmith is doing until tomorrow which is 15% off used clubs and 25% new clubs. What a bargain. So I called them up, and they decided to honor the coupon for me even though I bought them yesterday with no coupon. So I went back today and got my very good condition used set of TM R7's for $254.94 + Tax. Fantastic deal, I am even more thrilled. With the 25% off you can get a new set for $300, but I didn't want to push my luck by asking if I could exchange. I'm really happy I shopped around and found a good price, now I can round it out with the 2007 Burner driver new. I hit the irons today, and they felt like an upgrade already. Have to get used to them, but I am happy. For those interested in the coupon, here you go. http://www.golfsmith.com/email/FFJ09...-_-ff&tcode;=cj
  5. Hey all, just an update: I decided to take the TM R7's for $299 Used at Golfsmith. They are in very good shape and I couldn't pass on that good of a deal. I haven't had a chance to swing them yet, but can't wait. With the remaining money in budget I saw a TM Burner Drive for just $150 new at Dick's today. Couldn't believe they were that cheap. I am curious what loft you all think I should get? I know nothing about this, but considering I am a new player and not a very good golfer yet, what would be recommended? I read someone recommended to someone else who was also a new player something between 11-12. I saw one at 10.5, would that suffice? My swing speed hovers around 85 (slow, I know. I'm working on it.) Thanks again for the guidance thus far, I was clueless before I created this thread, and it helped me spot a good deal.
  6. Hey all, thanks for the input. I went to Golfsmith yesterday, and checked out some of the irons. They have a used set of TaylorMade R7's (I'm not sure what year they are, but they have Yellow lining on the clubhead) that are in really nice condition and are only $299. I'm leaning towards that right now. They also have last years set, new for $399 and a used set of TM Rac OS for $169. Is this a good set for a beginner to grow in to? I didn't get a custom fitting, because I don't believe it is free, and to be quite honest my swing isn't consistent enough for it to really even matter, or so I've been told.
  7. Being new to this, any suggestions on where to start looking? I suppose I can go to Golfsmith and look into a used set. Where can one get fitted for clubs? I think a budget of $400 for irons would be reasonable for me. Where would that put me, can anyone suggest a certain brand that is good for beginners but something that I can grow into and won't have to replace once I improve? Thanks for your input.
  8. Hey all, I've been playing golf off and on for 3 or 4 years, and am just getting back into it this summer after taking last year off. I've been hitting some balls and actually feel that my swing is better than it was 2 years ago (I guess 20 months of not playing purged my bad habits.) Anyways, I've probably played about 10-15 rounds and was hovering in the low 100's (yet to break 100). I've been using my fathers old clubs the whole time, but am wondering if it is time for an upgrade. Here is what is in my bag: 1996 Callaway Big Bertha Irons - Steel Shafts. I'm missing a 9 and 7 Iron. Callaway "Tuttle" Puter Callaway S2H2 PW and SW Adams Tight Lies 3-Wood Callaway 3-Wood (I use this as my driver) I can hit my short-irons decently (up to 5) but quite frankly am horrible at driving or using the woods. My question is, are these clubs outdated? Seeing as I'm a beginner will my development be impeded with clubs that are 13 years old? Is it worth spending money on new clubs or would I be better off using that money getting a lesson? Also, the clubs were for my father who is 5'11, I'm 6'2 1/2. Is it possible these clubs could be too small for me? Thanks for your time.
  9. Interesting. I'm 6'2 1/2. From what I understand anything over 6' becomes a detriment to your swing? My clubs are probably a bit too small.
