  1. Has anyone tried using a larger grip to help promote a fade (right handed)? I use a M/L Cadet players glove and am used to playing standard GP tour velvet grip, but I’ve been reading / hearing how a larger grip reduces your hands turning over. That’s my miss, I miss it left and when I get super handsy I start hooking the ball. It’s been something that I’ve been trying to work on for the past 3 years quieter hands, but it’s been so long that I actually want to start fading the ball naturally. So my question is, “is going to a midsize grip a bad thing to do?” Although I’ve already done it, I wanted to get some feedback from the guys on the forum. I have a 503h with a midsize grip and I love it, but it just feels weird with the driver. It feels like the club is more in my hands than in my fingers and that my grip isn’t right. As for performance with the driver it was going straight, but it didn’t feel like I got all of it like I was swinging slower (additional grip weight.) Maybe I’m just not used to it? Also MWT: Is 2 grams of weight in either port really going to make that much of a difference? And does going from 12 grams (stock weighting) to 18 grams hurt or help? I’m not the most flexible guy because of lifting weights, but I like the weight because it helps me smooth out my swing. I also figured: Force = Mass x Acceleration, and since I probably couldn’t up my acceleration due to being non-flexible I could up the mass and ultimately increase the force. I have a driver swing speed of 107 and a ball speed of about 152 (something like that,) I think I carry the ball 250 with about 30-40 yards of roll (I don’t hit the ball that high) Sorry for the ramblings guys, but I just want to get the most out of my driver since I hit on almost every hole that isn’t a par 3. I’ve become a bomb it (not that I bomb it) and look for it kind of player.
  2. I totally agree with SubPar, but I think that it is taken out of context about playing 15 clubs. I think that he is looking more from a practice round kind of approach, and while testing and figuring out the best setup its ok. I think that I did that for 2 rounds deciding between 2 iron and my 18 degree driving iron, but then again that’s coming from someone that moves his balls out of divots. Because after Tiger said that it’s a retarded rule, I started thinking that good shots shouldn’t be penalized either (unless I’m playing for something I’ll leave it in). FYI I'm only playing 12 clubs now (because of lack of $ and options)
  3. I would check the stock loft of your current 3 iron online, because the hybrid's ball flight is going to be higher and longer than your 3 iron. Hybrids tend to have a lower center of gravity and a longer shaft, not to mention easier to hit so you'll be getting more out of it. What are you looking for out of your hybrid? I know its to replace your 3 iron, but are you looking for a direct replacement or more of a RESCUE/trouble club?
  4. FYI, The Diamana 83 (blue) is only 78 grams. I think that it’s also commonly mistaken for the shaft that Tiger used for a while, I think that he was sporting the Diamana 103.
  5. Evarardo, is so on the money with this. I say if you are trying to figure out your game and different equipment play 20 if you like, but if you want to stay with 14 maybe take out your 3 iron or a wedge. I took out my 3 iron, because I rarely ever used it unless I was on a log par 3. Just on Friday I had 207 on a par 3 (perfect 3 iron) and I was thinking hard 4 iron, but I ended up hitting a softer hybrid and was center green. I say pull the 3 iron, because I think for most 3 iron off the deck puts you in more trouble than its worth.
  6. I've never hit it out of anything super deep, but if I can see 1/4 of the ball i've been able to muscle it out. Although I probably agree with Iacas, the 503 really isn't meant to be hit out ot the rough. It really shines off the tee on tight driving hole and long par 3. That's why I got the 22 degree 503 (not to mention it dirt cheap now) so that I could get a 19 degree rescue.
  7. I got my 22 degree 503 w/ an adila shaft for 32 bucks shipped . It's so good that I even took out my 3 iron, because my 3 and 4 iron off the deck are very similar in distance. I hit my 4 iron about 200 yards and the hybrid goes about 215, but that's as far of a long game that I have until you get to my driver. To me beyond 230 is very inconsistent to attack a green unless you are a pro, I don't see anybody getting on the green with that much consistency like 250 out. Don’t get me wrong I have a couple of buddies that have done it and were putting for eagle, but most of the time they end up over the green or behind a tree (even OB). So for me going from thinking about Eagle to Saving PAR with just one swing is retarded. I’d just rather lay up it up to 100 and throw a dart to have a 10 foot birdie putt. I’ll play a 19 degree hybrid keep my game more realistic > 230 yards, and use that extra club for a gap wedge. I mean am I wrong in thinking that 3 wood is not needed if you are able to hit the big dog?
  8. I used to sport a 2 iron back in the days before hybrids, and then I traded that in for a driving iron. The original mizuno fli-hi driving iron (18 degree) was awesome 230 down the middle all day every day. But like the previous poster that got upgraded to the titleist 503 (22 degree) which can be from anywhere. However, I think that I want my 4 iron play to get better so I am going to practice with my 2 iron again. I've always believed that if you practice and can hit a lower iron, your scoring clubs just come naturally. 2 iron to practice, and hybrid to play.
  9. I owned the CLK for about a week, and the Nickent 3DX hybrid for about the same time too. Both of them gave me MEAN hooks, so bad in fact that I went back to my 2iron. I know that they work great for most, but I'm just not one of them. Which is funny since I can play MP 33s, but I can't hit a freakin 3 wood off the deck if my life depeneded on it. Which is also a reason why I tend to stay away from wood type hybrids. I'm just looking for a 230 off the deck club that doesn't hook, is that so much to ask?
  10. Even though they are getting kind of old, I'm still going to go with these:
  11. Thanks for the reply guys. Iacas, I thought that you said that the slope feature was cool from your review? And about it being illegal in tournament use, well I don't see myself playing in a tournament anytime soon. I'm actually planning on using the range finder for new courses, and for when the driver gets a little wild (which is sometimes a lot) to get a yardage back onto my fairway or green without having to use trig. Also, did I miss the review on the 585h? I too am in the 15% population of the hooks, and it kind of sucks that almost everything in the market is geared towards the other 85% of duffers. I have the R5 TP with the Diamana shaft, so I am guessing that the TP Dual would be a great fit.
  12. In the quest for the RIGHT hybrid (for me,) I think that I've narrowed my search down to the TM Rescue Dual TP. The only thing that is stopping me from pulling the trigger is the price tag in the $190 range on eBay, and how Taylor Made likes to change their models every other day. I would just hate to purchase one today, and by next week the price drops to half because of a newer version. Also I am looking to getting the pinseeker 1500 w/ slope (although I am not so worried about this changing). Is now the time to buy, or is after Christmas? Thanks in advance.
