  1. In the market for an iron set and saw a set of Mizuno MX-1000's and really liked them. I was not able to hit with them, but they felt comfortable. Can someone that plays a set or has tried them give me any advice...good or bad? Thanks in advance!!
  2. A friend of my dad engineered this clear tape with dimples (resembled a golf ball) and had my dad place the tape just behind the leading edges of the wings of his cessna and also placed the tape on the edges of the prop. They're is a trick is placement though, you can either easily gain speed or lose speed. Well anyway, the tape added a total of 1o knots, to be conservative. His theory of this tape all derived from a golf ball. cool stuff!
  3. I would have never thought of insurance for my clubs, but thinking about replacing them in the event of theft makes me think more about it.
  4. Has anyone played The Crossings since the renovation?
  5. Just got my 09 Burner irons along with R9 3 and 5 wood. My question is....should I remove the sticker that has the specs and bar code? I would imagine that this is suppose to come off, but the first one was glued on fairly well. I will wait to hear from you guys before removing another.
  6. Trying to decide whether I want to go with black or white shoes. What color do you wear?
  7. Lessons are already factored in....have over 700 bucks set aside for lessons to get started.
  8. Well, as far as swing speed goes.....I have never swung a golf club, so: 1.) Im a little leery of going in a golf store and swinging their clubs. ( It's one thing to break the head off my own stuff) 2.) Besides, how accurate would the test be if I use my "raw" swing ( no sound technique at all) to check for swing speed. I would imagine I will be much slower when focusing on doing it right...at first. As far as money goes, I know it may seem crazy for a someone in my position to have a 2k + golf set-up and not even sure if I will enjoy the game. I'm very fortunate to be able to acquire most of my clubs using company rewards points and the only thing I am buying with my personal money is the driver. so far I have R9 fairways 3 and 5, Burner 09 irons, Newport 2 putter. I have no problem spending 300 bucks for a driver. I will buy wedges and a hybrid later as I learn what I can swing and I cannot swing. At least I can blame my game on poor equipment. Thanks guys!
  9. I'm in the process of buying a putter and have not found another putter that comes close to the feel I have with the Itsy Bitsy Spider. I will be trying a few more putters tomorrow, but the itsy bitsy spider is in the lead right now.
  10. Thanks guys! your advice really helps!
  11. Lessons are already factored in. Besides the only thing that I have to buy is the driver. I was able to get everything else for free from my work through a rewards program. If I were to go with the FT-IQ, should I go with a 10 0r 11 degree loft?
  12. Based solely on design and reputation, because they both feel good to me, what driver would you go with if you were just starting out. Taylormade R9 460 10.5 degree or Callaway Ft-IQ 10 degree or 11 degree (now $299) Next question, I was under the assumption that I should go with a regular flex being new to the game, but I was told by a local golf store that I should go with a stiff shaft. This was recommended because he said I was young enough and should buy something that I can grow into. He claimed that the stiff won't hurt my game to start off with...is this true?
  13. wow...that's extremely close to the set that I'm about to purchase. same irons, R9 3 and 5 wood, Callaway FT-IQ driver, itsy bitsy Monza putter, verdicts still out on wedges and hybrid.
  14. I live in Mobile Alabama
  15. As far as drivers are concerned...would it be wise to get a Callaway FT-IQ driver regular shaft in 10 degrees? I'm not sure if that is too much club for a beginner (This club will not cost me anything, therefore cost does not play into this question). I know most are going to say that I should try a bunch of drivers out to decide. However, without experience of swinging a club, I doubt that would do much good. Besides, I'm trying to make sure that the first swing I make is in front of a professional. That way, I hopefully don't create a lot of bad habits. Thanks so much guys!
  16. Thanks guys, how about a hybrid?
  17. Thanks guys! here is the lofts: 3 wood - 15 5 wood - 19 Irons 4 - 21 5 - 24 6 - 27 7 - 31 8 - 35 9 - 40 PW - 45 AW - 50 As far as the sand on my home course...I'm not sure. I'm not kidding when I say I'm new to golf. I have never hit a ball let alone actually play. I have always had the interest and have a chance to get some really quality stuff without costing me much at all. My biggest concern is getting clubs above my level. Thanks!
  18. So far I have: Driver 3 wood 5 wood Iron set (4-9, AW, PW) putter What clubs would be best to add? I know I need a SW, but have no idea on what loft. I know its not necessary to have 14 clubs while starting out and taking lessons, but I want to buy what ever I will eventually need.Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
  19. Do you like them? I looked every where local to try them on, but no luck. any suggestions on shoes?
  20. is there a set rule on what length putter you should used based on your height?
  21. I'm new at golf and wondering what kind of bag I should get? stand or cart? I plan on walking my local course in the beginning, but eventually will use a cart for the most part. any suggestions? thanks!
  22. Thanks so much for all your responses. I did leave out one important part, the reason I picked TaylorMade is because I know a Pro that has the connections I need to get those clubs really cheap....one or two of the clubs may be slightly used (the drivers I think), but most are brand new. The Pro advised me away from a starter set if I truly want to get regular lessons and put in the time required to get better, which I want to. Also, I live walking distance from a Robert Trent Jones course and driving range, so I plan to be at the range daily. I was also told to wait on getting fit until I receive lessons from a pro and he can guide me on what should be done to the clubs. In regards to trying out different clubs, I'm so new at this, that I have no idea what a club is suppose to feel like.....I'm unbiased at this point. Thanks!!
  23. I am new to golf and currently in the process of buying all of the equipment I need to get started. Before I go any further, I know the best bet for starters is to either buy used or borrow clubs, but I am dead set on buying new top quality stuff to get started. My first question is, what clubs are essential to start off with? Next questions is, what brand and model clubs should I go with? Below are the clubs that I have been thinking about, but would like your opinion on whether some of these clubs are suited for beginners or not. Iron set - TaylorMade Burner/steel shaft Driver - TaylorMade R9 with FCT Fairway Wood - TaylorMade R9 Putter - TaylorMade Bitsey Monza Spider I'm sure I have missed something, so all recommendations are appreciated. Thanks!!
