  1. Relevant because everywhere I looked they were $399 plus tax. The lowest I could find brand new was what I posted. $330 with tax or $319 before. Pretty significant but I'm sure if you wait long enough and keep looking you will find better. I just bought my FT-i for $150 2 weeks ago. Edwin Watts here in town matched that price. Everywhere else it was $199. I went to Dicks tonight and it was $149, when 2 weeks ago it was $50 more. Crazy how prices drop.
  2. Lol yes indeed. Thx guys :)
  3. http://valueguide.pga.com/detail.php...&Submit;=Submit HOLY... I've been sitting here saying the FT-i was $499 at release just assuming. $625??? LMAO! I just dont see normal sporting goods or anything else for that matter being this overpriced. No need to keep the argument going. I just found this on accident and had to post it. Crazy.
  4. I just bought a set of x18r's brand new for $330. Just got them in a week ago. I also JUST started playing golf a few weeks ago so I couldnt tell you if they are any good or not haha. Just been to the range a few times. I like them and they feel smooth to the hit. GPP.com or gamespeopleplay.com. I ordered them and got them the next day. They're in texas and I'm in louisiana though.
  5. Yea. I went to the range this morning to work on the irons. It didn't go well. I called him and he contacted his friend up at the club. He's going to do a 3 man session for 1 hour, lunch, and then play the course for $125 all together. Beginning of october. I dont know what lessons normally go for. Is this a good deal?
  6. Yeah I hear you guys. My good friend was an assistant golf pro at the local club for years and he's been helping me alot. Youtube is pretty good too. My bud has a lesson set up with a friend of his from the club for 3 of us. I cant wait. I'm just so happy with the FT-i. I 100% did not believe in a club "helping" you hit it straight. I did however trust the reviews I read and decided to give it a shot. Lovin it. I still shake my head in disbelief when I hit a perfectly straight drive around 250. Im a small guy so I have some learning to do to generate some speed. I also just started p90x so hopefully I'll get a little stronger. Thanks for the comments guys.
  7. Yea I will keep this stuff for a while. I guess I'll be the cheap golfer lol. The way I look at it is this. I read tons of reviews on the FT-i. TONS. Back from 2007 til now. I read 1 bad review. Everyone talked about how awesome their game is now blah blah. So my thoughts are, if it was so good back then, it should be so good now. How much better can these things get? I witnessed myself the difference this driver made. I stood back and wondered how the heck they could make a club that could actually make a difference without much effort. People want to hit the ball straight off the tee, and also have control when they need it. This club hits the ball straight. Thats all I need right now. Well, it helps ME hit it straight. I know they didnt have the new stuff 50 years ago so it does have something to do with the player, but still. My confidence is high with this and Ive only been playing 3 weeks, and Ive only played at the range. No course yet.
  8. It has everything to do with me being completely new. I'm 32 years old. I'm a smart shopper/money saver. Therefore I spend a good bit of time shopping and comparing prices. I'll say this again. A "new technology" FT-i going from $499 down to $299 (I got it for $160 and also found it afterwards for $130) and a set of x18r's from $499 ( I'm assuming they were $499 at release ) to $330 ( I found them for $299 afterwards ) is just crazy to me. You dont see car prices dropping from $30,000 to $12,000 even after 2 years. So when I came into this blind, started shopping, and realized the mark up, it was very shocking. I guess because Im new? Only reason for this post was to say WOW I realize now what Ive gotten into and wanted some feedback on a ball I should use. Im in for the long haul.
  9. Great advice guys I appreciate all the input. I'm not sure why the smarta** comments though. "What a terrible post" and "Obviously you've never worked in retail". Im new to the game COMPLETELY. Im asking questions. Im not sure how its so terrible. Me never working in retail has nothing to do with wondering why clubs are marked up 250%. I know companies have to make money, but it seems golf equipment is a little rediculous. Anyway, I chose to pick the game up, I chose to buy what I bought. Im not saying this was a mistake. I love the game so far and completely addicted. It only gets better. To all that decided to have something good to say, thanks.
  10. I also saw the FT-i for $130 2 days ago I had already ordered it. And yes I understand the prices drop. My point is, at 499, callaway is making a profit. At 130, are they still? Actually callaway sells the FT-i for 199 I think. So, the company isnt going to lose money right? This would suggest the price is bumped up 200 bucks on the 1st day its released brand new. Its no different now than it was then. 200 bucks overpriced for 1 club is pretty sick if you think about it. I know, its just the way it is. Gotta pay to play. I think I will always look for the 2 year old "New technology" clubs with this hobby lol.
  11. Thanks guys. I will definitely be looking into cheaper balls to start out with.
  12. Ive never played a round of golf so I dont know what I am. I just put that cuz it was the worst haha. Good stuff though. Thanks guys.
  13. Being new to the golf world, I've been excited about it and shown pretty good progress in the last 3 weeks. I bought my practice set and within a week I was out shopping for some "good" stuff. I found a new set of X18r irons for $330 with tax. Regular price $499 (I think). Also picked up an FT-i Draw for $160 with tax. Regular $499 (I think). I did some major shopping around to save as much as I could. I'm using the 3 and 5W from the old set since they are TaylorMade and the putter since its a Ping. Here is the realization that has dawned on me 30 seconds ago... The freakin balls that I "should" be playing with are $60 for 12???? ProV1x. I stood back for a second and thought is this really something I want to do for a hobby? That just blew me away. Luckily my buddy sells em on the side for $25/12. I dont know where he gets them, but it sounds like a deal. Any other recommendations for a good ball that doesnt cost $5 every time you lose one? Also, someone please justify golf equipment being THAT overpriced when its new? Those guys make a KILLING on it brand new. I wouldnt think they are even going to lose money once they drop an FT-i from $499 to $160. So why try to sell it and rip people off in the beginning? I guess it goes for anything but I just dont see the same degree of overpricing in other sports. Maybe Im wrong.
  14. Complete newb here but I have to say, the FT-i seems so nice. I bought a $50 set of clubs. 17 to be exact. They are old, but one had a training grip on it and also had a Ping Anser in there. Im starting out brand new to the game about 3 weeks ago. Went to the range, sliced 80% of my drives and was fairly discouraged but new I had some learning to do. I studied up on youtube for a solid week, went to the range, still sliced about 70% of the time. Said the the heck with it and bought an FT-i Draw. My friend has it and said its really good. Read the reviews, think I found 1 bad review in 3 days, so it sounded safe. Went to the range and HOLY **** I had some fun. Out of 100 balls I sliced maybe 10. I am hooked for life. Cant wait to start improving.
