  1. Thanks for all the comments - I've only played my current set of clubs out for one round so my point of reference for distance are the range rocks at my local range. Based on that I hit my PW about 115 and my lob wedge about 60-65 which means I should probably get two clubs in between which is what I've started to go with - I picked up a 54.14 Vokey today on eBay and will try to track down a 50.08 next.
  2. Just got my hands on a Vokey 260.04 (black nickel) and I'm mulling over how to fill in the gap from my PW (Nickent 3dx 44 deg). I'm thinking of a 254.10 or a 254.14 and then a 250.08 or a 248.08 or I'd just get a 52 instead and go with 3 wedges (I have room in the bag for 4 wedges though). What should I be considering when filling out the bag in the wedge range? I'm still a n00b golfer (less than 15 rounds altogether) but years of pitch and putt have made me pretty nifty around the greens. thanks,
  3. I hit it quite a bit shorter at both ranges that I frequent especially with my long irons/hybrids. I'm as much as 2 1/2 clubs shorter at the range with my long irons than I am on the course - in fact, I hit my 5 iron as long as my 3 iron at the range but on the course there's the normal gap. At the range I've never seen anyone hit it longer than 250 despite some who look like they should be really hammering the ball. I can only hit it about 210 or so at the range with my driver while on course I'm about 240-250.
  4. Looking at a set of Nike Slingshot Tours at Golftown selling for $650CDN - they feel good and appear to hit well for my swing but was curious at what else I should be looking in that price range. Is $650 a good price for these clubs (it's about as much I'm willing to pay)? The Nickent 3DX and Adams OS2 have caught my eye as well. thanks, eric.
  5. Hi, I'm still pretty new to golf (less than 15 rounds in my life) and am finally getting comfortable hitting my driver however the advice I've gotten lately is that I need to shorten my backswing if I want to get more consistent which makes sense to me. I've managed to shorten the backswing a bit (I'm more or less parallel now at the top - usually a bit over) and have a good tempo. My efforts of late to shorten the swing more to gain more consistency aren't very helpful to me right now as it's ruining my tempo - when I do make decent contact I am definitely more accurate but it's a gong show otherwise. I'm longer the way it is if more inaccurate than with a shorter swing but the tempo is there and I don't know whether I should put the work in to shorten the swing or should I work on being more consistent with what I have. I'm not overswinging IMO as I'm naturally very flexible and I get a lot of wrist cock (I can touch the ground with my wrists from a standing position). Am I on the path to ruin if I don't shorten my backswing? Or can I learn to make good use of it? If I should shorten the backswing what can I do to make this work better for me? eric
