I agree. I just think that's an excuse for arrogant people. Ooh, well this pro said it, so that means its ok. W/e pro said that is a jerk too. Being good at something doesn't give you the right to get upset about someone trying to be supportive.
Also, you can usually tell how well a ball was struck by the sound it makes at impact. That's probably why "older guys" say that. I know I was playing, hit a 3 iron off the tee (and I'm a terrible player), but I struck this ball perfectly and the guy instantly said, "great shot."
We've all hit the ball perfectly, but b/c we expected to hit it bad, we took too much club and hit over the green. Imo that's still a good shot, just the wrong club. Then again, I'm not quite the perfectionist that Blake is.
