    swing speed

I am pretty sure that is possible. They want to sale the higher priced equipment and to do that they want you to think you are hitting it a ton. But a few guys there that were also taking some swings thought the yardage was playing short. ex computer shows 150 but they thought it was more like 170. That is what they felt from their playing experience. Of course it could have been just their egos. My irons is what saves me. I am pretty accurate with all my irons. Usually with my driver I have trouble keeping it straight. I always end up having to play out of the rough. That is why I was trying out some new ones. I want one that is 460cc because from my understanding it offers more forgiveness. The one I have now is roughly a 1/4 of the size of the 460cc I was trying. The face of my driver is only about 1 or 1 1/4 inches tall. It offers no forgiveness. As it is now, whenever I play it stays in the bag. I use my 3 wood instead, even on par 5's. I usually hit it straight down the middle. In my playing group, my 3 wood keeps up with their drivers. So at least with them I am not sacfricing much distance.

Seriously, though, I need to work on my putting. That is the part of the game that really kills me. The other day I went to a nice little par 36 9 hole course and had 31 putts for the day. Almost 4 putts per hole. That's horrible. I also want to take some lessons as well to improve my overall game.

    swing speed

I went to Golfsmith on saturday and got on the launch monitor. I have read before that it does not actually measure swing speed but estimates it based on ball speed and distance. But what is the correlation with swing speed to distance? I demoed a Ping G5. I think it was a 9 or 9.5*, it had a stiff graphite shaft(65 g). My distance was in the 270-280(carry and roll) range with a swing speed of 108-110 mph. Launch angle was 14*. How accurate do you think my swing speed is in correlation to the distance it traveled?
  4. Ok, cool. I found some Titleist Pro V1 X-OUT's for $11.95 a dozen. They are supposed to be grade 1 & 2. They are supposed to be in "like new condition." I will probably buy a couple dozen and try them out.
  5. Thanks for the input, guys. I really appreciate it. I am pretty consistent with my 3 wood. I usually hit it straight down the middle 9 out of 10 times. Lately I have been using my 3 wood instead of my driver because I feel more comfortable with it.
  6. I am looking at purchasing a new 3 wood. The one I have now came from a starter set I bought from Wa-Mart. It is 210 cc. The 3 woods I have been looking at lately are in the 180-190 cc range. Would it be possible for me to lose distance by going to a smaller head or is the difference negligible? Or do y'all think I could possible pick up yardage because I will be swinging a better club?
  7. are there any other fees associated with q-school? Or is the $5000 the only fee?
  8. What does it mean when a ball is an X-OUT? Do they play like a regular ball? Are there any differences?
  9. Thanks for your response. I was just wondering because the other day I played a 344 yd par 4 hole that doglegged left. Usually I use a utility 3 iron to dump it right in front of the 150 yd marker which is right at the turn. Well the other day I played, I topped the ball off the tee and it only went about 10 yds off the tee box into the rough just off the fairway. At this point I had a clear shot at the green by cutting across. I pulled my 3 wood and hit it pretty clean. It landed roughly 15 yds short of the green. If I can make up that 25 yds by hitting it off the tee, I may always go for the green. Maybe I can end up putting for eagle. Do you think it is possible to make up 25 yds?
  10. Is there a difference in yardage when hitting your 3 wood of the tee as opposed to hitting it out off the fairway or off the rough?
  11. I played yesterday at a 9 hole par 36 course. It was kind of rough for me. There was a lot of wind. Some holes I was going with the wind while others I was playing into the wind. Also a couple of holes the wind was sweeping across. I have never played in wind like that so I was misjudging the distance of my clubs all day. Round Score # of Putts Fairways Hit 1 ------- +32 --------- 31 ---------- 4 2 ------- +23 --------- 23 ---------- 2 3 ------- +18 --------- 20 ---------- 1 As you can see my putting really determines my score. As far as fairways hit, I was barely off the fairway. I would just get into the rough, no more than about 2-3 feet off the fairway. At least as the day went on my scores started to drop. I just have to get out there and practice a lot more.
  12. What are the major differences in shafts? Does one give more distance than the other? What is everyone's preference? Also what about stiffness? I know there is firm, stiff, extra stiff and so on. How do you determine which one is best for you? Does either one help fight slicing? Thanks.
  13. I am relatively new to the game and had a question. I went out to a 9 hole course today to play and noticed that there was some sort of marker close to the hole. It was green with a white top. It appeared that it was maybe 100-150 yards from the pin. Is this something they have at all courses? Also what is the yardage of it or does it vary from course to course?
