  1. Thanks for all the replies so far guys.
  2. Thanks for the heads up. Is the regular known to have more distance? If so, do you know the draw back from the Pro? Thanks.
  3. Hey guys, I'd like to get your opinion on the best set of irons to purchase for my dad. Quick background: 55 years old Currently plays the Tommy Armour 845s (steel shaft) - definitely the wrong shaft, IMO Shoots in the low to mid 90s Hits his shots fairly straight, but short distance is a big issue Swing speed on the "slower" side - driver SS is prob around high 80s to low 90s Biggest desire from new iron set is increase of distance Which irons would you guys recommend that he tries out? I plan to get him fitted for the proper shaft (most likely graphite) for the new set as well. Let me know where I should start looking. Thanks in advance for your help!
  4. I think it's a fair result, considering the club was pretty old. Callaway has another happy customer and they defiitely get my vote for having great customer service; so win-win. And thank you all for your advice!
  5. Just wanted to give you guys an update. After just sitting on my broken Callaway FT-5 driver because I've been busy, I finally took it into Golfsmith to see if they could help me out. They sent it out to Callaway and got back to me saying that they couldn't fix it for free because it's been out of warranty for 1.5 years already. But they offered to give me a BRAND NEW driver for cost. So I was able to custom order a brand new 2010 FT Tour driver with Matrix Ozik X-Con 6 shaft for $200 including s/h! The shaft alone is worth more than that, so I'm very happy with the result. So huge thumbs up to Callaway.
  6. That's not a bad idea, rebby. I might try them again tomorrow to see if another rep has a different answer. I wouldn't mind a discount on their pre-owned driver if they offered that. Thanks.
  7. Yeah, I was disappointed as well. I wasn't expecting everything to be for free. But I was hoping that they can replace the head because I really do love the driver and the shaft is a perfect match for me. Oh well...
  8. I called the Callaway customer service and they told me that unfortunately since my club was bought used more than 1 year ago, they can't do anything for me. I guess their policy is 2 years for their new products and 1 year for used product. So it looks like I'm SOL...
  9. Cool. I'll give them a call and update you guys, just in case anyone else is interested. Thanks.
  10. Thank you all for your response so far. Does anyone have any first hand experience they want to share? Thanks.
  11. My Callaway FT-5 driver broke on the range a few days ago. Worst timing because I was warming up at the range for an outing, so I was stuck hitting my 3-wood the entire time, but that’s neither here nor there. Anyways, the bottom of my driver cracked (not the face, but the plastic part at the bottom of the head). It was NOT done from any misuse. It truly broke during a normal course of use. So my question is, am I screwed or can I have Callaway replace it? It was bought used from callawaygolfpreowned.com (which I believe is a reputable Callaway dealer) about 2 years ago. I’m pretty sure Callaway has warranty on their products, but I’m not sure about their used products. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks.
  12. I don't know what "soft stepping" a shaft does, but I wanted to share something my fitter informed me about DG S300 shafts. I currently use that shaft on my irons and he was saying that "about 95 out of 100 amateurs aren't a right fit for this shaft". His reasoning was that amateurs don't create enough whip with their irons to truly realize the benefit of DG S300 shafts. For point of reference, I'm 27 years old with a "relatively higher" swing speed and he still didn't like me with that shaft.
  13. I don't quite remember the exact swing speed for my 6-iron, but somewhere in the 80s sound about right. My driver swing speed is 100-105mph if that helps. It's interesting to hear your review about the DG HL shaft. Do you normally launch the ball pretty high even before going to that shaft? Also, there seems to be all different kinds of Project X shafts though (e.g. 5.5, 6.0, 6.5). Not sure which one would be ideal for me. stebed - I actually tried the FST KBS Tour shaft during my fitting and I really didn't like the feel of it. Thanks for the suggestion though.
  14. I recently went to a custom fitting for irons with the hopes of finding my perfectly fitted irons. I came out of that 3 hour session with more questions and confusion than ever before. Long story short, I was fitted to a shaft that doesn’t come as one of the options that Titleist AP2s builds. I was specifically fitted for Nippon Pro 1150 Tour Stiff ( http://www.nipponshaft.com/steel_1150gh_tour.html ), so am looking for any other shafts with specs close to it from the following Titleist shaft options: http://www.titleist.com/golfclubs/sh...t.asp?Filter=4 I currently play Dynamic True Temper S300 steel shafts for my irons, but the fitter said with my tempo, that shaft is a bit too heavy for me. Plus, I’d like to launch my irons a bit higher than my current clubs. Here are my quick stats from the fitting with a 6-iron: Avg. ball speed: 117-121mph Avg. carry: 168 yards Launch angle: forget the exact degree, but the fitter said it was a tad on the lower side and would like to see it go up a bit Spin rate: ~5,700 RPM, the fitter said this was right on Purely looking at the numbers, it looks like the True Temper Dynamic Gold HL w/Sensicore stiff shaft might be a close fit. But it’s so hard to decide without actually hitting them. I’ve also inquired about a Titleist demo day at a local course, but I think they just have stock clubs and I won’t be able to test out these different “Titleist” shafts like I did for my fitting. Why is this so hard? I’m kind of frustrated and exhausted now, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
  15. jamo - Really? I've been to that range a bunch of times, but never actually stopped by at the golf store inside because they close early. I don't think they have a launch monitor or any kind of fitting machines, although I could be wrong. I guess I'll check it out the next time I'm there. Thanks. DP - Yeah, I usually go to a Golfsmith in Schaumburg which is only 15 min away from me. But I'd like to go to a real fitting professional. I think people that do fitting at places at Golfsmith are more of a sales person.
