senorchipotle, Once again, thanks. I have been practicing this narrower closer to ball stance for the last 4 days. I have struggled a lot initially but I think it's coming around. 9 GIRs today. Only 2 hook and 1 slice tee shots. No hook iron shots. I hit 3 pure iron shots, when normally I would hit 1 pure, if I'm lucky. Love that sweet feeling. It's like a bliss! More importantly, I feel my swing is much smoother and effortless than before. I'll keep working at it.

Inconsistent great ball striker
acegolfer replied to Valleygolfer's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
What I normally do is crop the video to 6-7 seconds. Then upload to swingacademy. Then it magically selects the 4-second segment with the swing. If it doesn't, it still is a 6-7 second video. -
I think what matters more is playing with 1 type of ball. Premium balls may or may not work for everyone. If your wallet is tight but want to play with premium balls, try AAAA quality from lostgolfballs. I pay roughly $1 per ball before shipping.

I play with TM TP RED LDP. I carry 2 balls in my pocket, one new and another worn/scuffed. When there is a chance of losing the ball, I use the worn one. Today, I noticed that the ball flight between the two is slightly different. The newish ball tends to fly higher with more spin. I was wondering whether the difference is negligible or not. Any first hand experience you want to share?

Inconsistent great ball striker

Do us a favor. Please just select the default 4 second segment in swingacademy. I'm sure you will get more feedbacks, if it doesn't take several minutes to download the swing. I agree with iacas on your swing. I can't wait to see your new video. -
really? it's counter intuitive.

This video explains one possibility of blocking, which is related to hip thrust. See whether this applies to you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfP2n...layer_embedded

I'm guessing hip thrust.

Your diagnosis is correct. There are many reasons for inside out swing. To fix it, you need to know the cause. Without more information or video, we can only speculate, which will not help.
-
1. Understand what causes your ball flight trajectory. Google D-plane or new law of ball flight. 2. I don't know any simple tips. If anybody knows, please share it. 3. blocks and draws are both caused by inside-out swing. 4. I'm not an expert.

Need help hitting a fade

What's your normal ball flight? The correct remedy depends on what your current swing is. So give us more information about yourself. -
right elbow stuck on downswing
acegolfer replied to bentur123's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Absolutely. Getting stuck leads inside out swing, which may results in hooks. There are many reasons for getting stuck. In my case, it was a combination of hip thrust and swing plane issue. Why don't you post your video? A blind prescription can be deadly. -
Inconsistent great ball striker

I was in the same boat as you. My good shots were fantastic but my bad shots are dead horrible. My swing was based on timing. If the stars were aligned, then I would should shoot 70's. I thought I was an inconsistent great ball striker. But I learned that I had so many swing faults. And I was no where near a good ball striker. I was swinging it hard and hoping for a great contact. I video taped myself to find out the problems. There were about 10 or so. Identified what I needed to fix first and practiced. You may need some professional help to figure out what first to work on because you can't simply work on 10 things at a time. Final warning. If possible, don't go to the course when rebuilding a swing. If you must go, then forget the scores as it will be worse. Set 1-2 objectives that you want to accomplish during a round. Never. they will never be almost all be like that. At any level, you will hit more misses than not. It's apparent that you don't know how to improve and don't want to listen to others. -
Swining with more emphasis on the rear hand.
acegolfer replied to RWHJR3's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I agree 100%. As a lefty playing right handed, my swing is lead by left arm/hand. But I hit so many fat and even chunk shots. Right hand pushing has nothing to do with fat shots. Fat shots are caused by changing spine angle and casting club. As for left vs right arm, I don't think left should be leading and right should be pushing. Your lower body and torso should be leading and pushing. IMHO, arms should be just passive. But what do I know. -
I am curious to hear from others. In my case, my swing path is consistently inside-out for every swing. But my club face is not consistent. If my club face is square to the path, then I push straight to right. If my club face is square to the target, then my ball starts straight and hooks to the left If my club face is between, then ball starts right but draws back to target. Is this just me? Or is this common where swing path is consistent but club face isn't.

When I first read in another thread that inconsistent ball striking is the number 1 common mistakes among high handicappers, I thought it was as obvious as lower handicappers shoot better scores. However, after reading so many other posts, I now believe this is not so obvious to everyone. I agree with you 100%. I have never seen a high handicapper with consistent ball striking. And I don't know why we are talking about driving distance so much here. There are more important things to spend time on.

Help from teachers with ball position
acegolfer replied to alomar123's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
It's a bad fix. I did that and my game suffered for 2 years. -
I'm the OP and I try to avoid these shots. Unfortunately, these shots are called upon. I faced these shots twice today. 50 yard shot from tight lies on the fairway. The fairways are very sandy here and bounce will be no help. So a ball contact first is mandatory. I'd normally play this with half swing 56*. But I played it with 46* PW. Both shots were not perfect but got on the green, which is all what I wanted. If I played with 56*, I would probably chunked both shots.

I'm the OP and the reason why I asked this is in my case low HDCP is not necessarily fun. I was having lots of fun while breaking 90. Because par was rare, saving par was fun. My HDCP dropped to single digit at one point not because of long game but because of short game. I felt like I needed to save par on every hole. Got frustrated, if I couldn't get up and down. I felt I hit the wall and knew that my single digit HDCP was not sustainable. That's when I stopped playing golf for about 3 years, which also coincides with the birth of my first child. 2 years ago, I moved to S. Florida and I started playing again. New courses with new attitude. Specifically, I am trying to build a sound long game. Completely changed the swing and still trying new things to improve. My long game has never been better. For example, at the tee box, I have a good expectation on what the ball will do. Even though my short game sucks right now and at 11 HDCP, I am having more fun than when I was an 8. I'm confident that I will get to a single digit HDCP with a sound basis that can be sustainable.

First, sorry for the wrong thread title. It should be "loft" not "lost." Second, as I said in OP, I'll appreciate if you do not discuss the proper pitching technique here. I have done research on the proper technique. I'm working on the advices that you gave me already. But I want to know which club gives me the most margin for error.

Left wrist firm = maintain flying wedge?
acegolfer replied to acegolfer's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Thanks. You can find the video in another thread. http://thesandtrap.com/forum/threads...ing-(acegolfer ) The reason why I ask this is because being a lefty, I have more control with my left hand than with right hand. Specifically, I can tell my left hand to be firm but I can't tell my right hand to maintain the wedge. Imagine shooting a basket ball with your other hand and you will understand what I'm saying. I have very little control over my right hand. So if firm left wrist = maintain flying wedge, then I can achieve it by controlling my left hand. -
I'm a former left handed tennis player with a pretty strong one-handed backhand stroke. I adopt the same technique (see below) to my right handed golf swing. Firm left wrist throughout down swing (back of left hand pointing at target at impact) + weight shift to left leg + hip rotation + shoulder turn. Meanwhile, my right arm and hand are pretty passive in my swing. They just follow the left arm lead. So I'm 99% positive that my left wrist doesn't break down for my full swing. (Half swing is a totally different story.) If my left wrist is firm, can I assume I'm maintaining the flying wedge? Or is it totally irrelevant?
