Before I ever took a lesson, I had a very loose, sort of John Daly swing. (Past parallel at the top, lots of wrist action...) I was pretty decent at getting the club back into position on the downswing, but, as you might expect, my game would come and go. Some days I had it, some days were a train wreck.
I'm with an instructor now who has simplified my swing tremendously. At first, things felt very mechanic, but I've managed now to improve my tempo and sort of dial it in.
The one problem that keeps sporadically re-appearing is dropping my wrists at the start of my downswing. Sometimes, it's so subtle that I don't even feel it, but the shot is bad and my swing coach points it out.
My question is this: Should I increase my grip tension with my left hand, right hand, or both to keep the wrists from breaking down? I've always heard the looser you handle the club, the more speed you'll generate, but I can't think of any other way to keep the proper wrist angle at the top. Would oversized grips remedy this?
Thanks for any input!!!!
