  1. Thank you. You are right i am literally all arms in the backswing. Ill work on that n check out threads.
  2. May help to add that in the winter when i go to the indoor simulator and i miss it left the simulator says im coming on a slightly inside path with face shut 4degrees. Drives me crazy. I dont know if its my grip or what.
  3. I've been Playing Golf for: 15yrs My current handicap index or average score is: 13 My typical ball flight is: draw The shot I hate or the "miss" pull hook Videos: ive attatched two videos in slo mo. My misses are pulles and drives me crazy. Why am i pulling it? Is the face shut at impact? Am i rotating hands too much through impact? The path looks good One video is a pull, one is a dead straight
  4. Is there a place to upload videos here. I've been able to play some good golf to a 14 handicap but fight the over the top. In practice swings I can swing the club on plane but put a ball there and I swing over my right shoulder.
  5. 14 handicapper here. My question is around finding the slot. I find that when I take one handed swings with my right arm the club drops right into the slot bisecting my right bicep on the downswing. As soon as I put 2 hands on the club and swing the shaft no longer will bisect my bicep in the downswing and I now swing over my shoulder on the downswing (ott) or steep. Why is this and how can I shallow it out so it drops in the slot like 1 handed swings?
  6. I know, its pointless without a ball but this is the place you practice the most when you have two little children!!!
  7. sorry its not outside.
  8. So is this really right? Looks very unsynced but I am going to try it. http://www.pga.com/instruction/off_the_tee/ can the first move just be a lateral push off with the right foot towards the target or do the hips have to turn the way this video shows?
  9. Is there a consious shift onto a flatter plane in the downswing or does this happen naturally with the weight shift?
  10. So I went to the range yesterday and as I said in an earlier post for the last 8 years I've played this game I have started the downswing with my upper body. You can imagine what kind of pulls I have hit in the past. Yesterday at the range I tried some of the things I read on this post. The only thing I focused on was my right leg. I started the swing with my weight preset on the instep of my right foot. As I got to the top of my swing the only thing I focused on was pushing off the instep of my right foot towards the target and kicking my right knee in towards the target. I felt like Tom Watson saying to myself "I GOT IT"! I was hitting baby draws and it was a feeling I never felt before. All I heard was ball then turf, ball then turf, ball then turf!! My question is this, When beginning the downswing by pushing off the instep of your right foot can you start swinging down at the ball with your arms at the same time? Or do you have to push off with your righ foot FIRST and then let the arms swing down at the ball. I felt like whenever I started with the push off of the right foot first I could then swing as hard as I wanted without getting off plane. Thanks for comments in advance. Hope I am on to something here!
  11. I have been playing this game for about 8 years now? I think I finally figured out the swing. For years and years I was driving myself crazy trying to get the downswing right. I would try to put the club in a certain position, or hit down or try to get my right shoulder down plane, or start with my hips which was incorrect because i never shifted my weight etc etc. I first used to slice then years later started to pull and was very inconsistent. It wasnt until today that I figured it out. You cant put the club in a certain position on the downswing, you have to start the down swing by shifting your weight onto your left foot with slight bump BEFORE YOU START TO SWING DOWN WITH YOUR ARMS. Once the weight is shifted then finally you can go at the ball. If you start with your upper body such as your arms and shoulders you will never get in the correct position. IS THIS CORRECT???
  12. Okay so i have been playing this game for 8 years and what i finally realized is that you cant hit the ball from the top, in fact you cant it the ball with the clubhead at all. I have tried to swing the club and put it on so many different planes and just cant figure out the key to the swing. I came to the conclusion today, and not sure if this right, that on the down swing you have to lead down with the handle pointing to the ball and hold the angle until the last moment until the clubhead unleashes at the ball. Almost like what you would do with a whip. before i would try to swing like a baseball player where i was trying to force it on a certain plane but from messing around I think holding that angle is what gets it on plane. Ha Ha, is this even correct. If not I am soon from giving up this game!!!!!!!!
  13. i hit a lot of shots with the face open where the ball is pushed right or where I pull the ball where it starts left and keeps going left. When i swing i never feel the clubhead really release and have kind of a chicken wing like i am hoding on. The woosh in my swing happens after the ball. Should the woosh happen right at the point of the ball and have the feeling that the club head is exploding at impact like the club is trying to pass by you?
  14. HA thats what tom watson used to say after pounding balls on range. i wish i had 10 cents for every time i said that. i think i got it. i consistently started the swing using all upper body. i think i have it, is this feeling? staying very loose from the hips up, as you get to the top of the your back swing you are trying to propel the club through the ball by using your weight shift from the right to the left foot while keeping your arms tension free and letting the club fall right down to the ball. no attempt to hit it just trying to whip it through by using the weight shift. thoughts? this game is crazy!!!
  15. thanks for the reply. i do know that i lack lower body in that swing but keep in mind that video is over 3 years old. i have been trying to work on getting though the shot. i really prefer the toe up at 9 oclock position. i dont think i will be going back to that teacher especially at $100 per hour to tell me to shut the face as much as i can in my swing. the facility was really nice, every range mat has a camera/ computer/ software to draw plane lines to analyze your swing. i think i will work on my take away, lower body getting though the shot and THE IN THE SLOT DRILL. WHAT ARE EVERYONES THOUGHTS ON THE IN THE SLOT DRILL?
  16. I have seen manzella's hit vs swing video. in my swing i am just trying to swing the club in a circle but i feel like i am trying to put the club in a certain position on the downswing and trying to really hit the ball. Is the real feeling the complete opposite? should it feel like everything starts away in one piece and the moment of the take away is what causes the hinging? as you start down there is no attempt to hit it and the unhinging happens on its own unleashing at the ball? I feel like i am thinking so much to have the club come in a certain way to the ball.
  17. he is friends with hank haney. hank calls him crazy because of how much he really gets into the swing. he comments on some of the things tiger does and hank as said "where did you see that in his swing". Hank is coming down to his teaching facility this year. I dont think i would go back though. some of things he had me doing like closing the face really screwed me up. the biggest help though was seeing that in the downswing my butt cheeks came way off the angle from address. for example if you were to get into position so that your butt is against then make a swing, on the downswing by butt was pulled away from the wall by about 10 inches. this is a must fix.
  18. no i didnt change my swing just worked on fundamentals and worked on my backswing so that the club doesnt whip behind me. the thing that gets me is there was no intro from the instructor. he just came over and got right into it. there was no "okay whats going on in your swing, what are you feeling, whats your goal, nothing" he just got right into it and tried to make it feel like the face was closed through the entire swing. i dont think he was teaching me one plane theory. i always thought the toe up at the half way back position was a great drill. he said its the worse. this game is crazy.
  19. so i took a lesson last night and had video analysis and cant believe some of the things i saw in my swing. I will only mention some of the flaws that were explained to me and I would like to get some input as to what you folks think. the first problem was that he saw that as i took the club away i was fanning the face open. He said the face is wide open at the top. He gave me a club that had a hool a hoop taped to it. as i addressed the ball with this club the hool a hoop rested on the shaft. the goal was to make a swing and keep this hool a hoop on the plane which felt like i was shutting the club to keep this hool a hoop on plane. before with my old swing if i took the club back with my arms and got the toe up at the 9 oclock position the hool a hoop would be laying flat and parallel to ground. ( he told me the toe up drill at the 9oclock position is the worse advice ever?) now it feels like when i take the club away and get to the 8 oclock position my right arm is over my left arm, the club head is outside my hands and the face is square to plane. he has me trying to take the club away with my body so it keeps the club square to the path instead of just trying to just whip it back with my arms. the second thing we worked on was getting hip rotation in the down swing and getting the left hip to go left at the down swing. here is my swing but this VIDEO WAS TAKEN ABOUT 3.5 YEARS AGO. this video may not work but this is not the video from last night!
  20. i think i get so caught up on trying to put the club in the right spot on the down swing that i get caught up using my upper body and not my lower body. How important is it to get the weight shift onto the left foot on the downswing?
  21. So right!!!! maybe it is simple because they have the path and plane engrained so its easy for them. they say just coil get to the top and swing down, Yea right!!!
  22. I am determined to learn the golf swing. I have been playing for about 8 years now and i dont want to be one of those in the words of leadbetter " golf is game that some people go their whole lives and never understand what goes on in the golf swing". I am 29 years old / 15 handicap and I am a thinker when it comes to the swing. the crazy thing about this game is that you hear one thing about the swing then someone says something that negates that, and I dont feel that anyone does a great job of what really goes on in the golf swing. Anyway i am working on my downswing but not sure if this is correct. I am trying to feel that on the downswing my right elbow pretty much replaces where the right hip was at the top of the swing. It feels like my hands and club are swinging down close to my body. I dont have any video but is this the correct feeling? CRAZY GAME BUT FUN.
  23. Instead, when you hinge at the top, try to PUSH your thumbs down into the grip and DROP your arms and match the clubhead to the ball. PUSH, don't PULL.[/QUOTE] okay that makes no sense to me. but thanks anyway
  24. what does this really mean??? i have heard tons of different explanations. i used to try to swing out to the right so that i am hitting the inside part of the ball but that doesnt work. i would put the ball 10 inches in front of a tee and try to hit the ball without hitting the tee but the ball would just hook. i have been trying to grasp this concept for years. DOES IT MEAN THAT THE CLUB DOESNT GET SWUNG UP THE PLANE AND COME DOWN ON THAT SAME PLANE . SHOULD IT BE AS THOUGH ON THE DOWNSWING YOUR ARE BRINGING YOUR RIGHT ELBOW CLOSER TO YOUR BELT BUCKLE SO THAT YOUR RIGHT ELBOW IS BRUSHING YOUR HIP? IF I STAND IN A DOOR JAM AND PLACE MY HANDS ON THE DOOR JAM AND GET TO THE TOP OF MY BACK SWING THEN AS I SWING DOWN REROUTE THEM ON THE WAY DOWN SO THAT MY HANDS MISS THE DOOR JAM ON THE WAY DOWN IS THAT THE FEELING OF SWINGING FROM THE INSIDE?
  25. i believe i have it down as i am getting great ball striking by shifting my weight to my left side through the ball. My question is which swing is it necessary to shift onto the left side? i know the full swing it is necessary so that the club can approach on shallower plane and fall into the slot but what about the pitch shot? chip? and 9 o clock swing?
