  1. Okay guys, you know I've been outta the loop for years now. There are so many gadgets, improvements, and technological advances. I feel like an adult who can't read - and I want to catch up. I would normally turn to my dad for the latest "must-haves" but he has dementia now and is in his 80s and can't play, so I'm turning to you. What do I need to know about all this new gear? Hybrids? (love this idea!) Sweet spot finders? (really?) Brush tees (I'm used to wooden tees) What stayed the same or grew leaps and bounds? Should I be looking for some snazzy golf glove? A golf bag that tells you what club to choose? It's like walking out of a time machine and it's decades later. tiff :)
  2. Gross! Above all else, golfers should remain gentlemen (even the ladies) on the course. Spitting in the cup is definitely unacceptable. Tiff
  3. I'm like a bag of mixed nuts. I can't ever have matching anything. The reason? I buy golf clubs like most women buy clothes - I see soemone else using it, I ask to test it out (or as I blogged about with the Square driver - they ask ME), and then next thing I know, I'm ordering one for myself and eenie-meenie-miney-moing which club has to leave the nest to make room for my new adoption. The only thing that will NEVER get replaced is my putter, but maybe it should I don't know why, but it's that club I HAVE to have and it's old, worn and comfy. And I'm HORRIBLE about taking care of my clubs - I hate covers because I always wind up leaving them somewhere on the course, so my clubs clank all around. I have a high golf bill and I haven't even returned to the course yet! :) tiff
  4. Thanks for all your support, uys - made me feel a lot better. You know, I know most golfers would respect me being out there playing period but there's always the one grouch who has to moan and groan about something and he's the one I am anxious about. LOL! tiff :) PS - I am making a tee time for next weekend. I'll let ya know how it goes, but I'll have to ride - no way I can walk and carry this soon. I'm outta shape. Got on my treadmill this morning and felt like dying after 20 minutes. Going back for more right now. I'm training to be a lean machine again! :)
  5. He moved to Arkansas shortly after we quit training together. I trained with him when he ran his own driving range in Fort Worth, Texas - and he was planning the Arkansas place at that time. I saw his site gravitygolf.com and it looks NICE! I emailed his wife Crickett recently and she told me to call, but I haven't yet - I will. I'm ashamed of myself for letting them down, you know? He invested a lot of time in me and I wound up pregnant. Not sure about the straight up wrist thing. He usually showed me how NOT to do that, but he does make sure the shoulders (and gravity) lead your follow-through and backswing both. The one-limbed drills are for the range, but once you do enough of them and put them together, it works in your full swing on the course. It was weird learning gravity golf - makes perfect sense. The only thing I didn't like (because I'd had my own swing since age 3) is the way your right elbow kind of goes outward in your backswing. I'm used to a traditional stance, so this was always difficult for me. But I have to admit, when I DID hit it the gravity way, I knocked it out of the ballpark - FAR more distance and accuracy than with a traditional swing. I may buy his video set soon to get myself reacquainted. Still nervous about playing a full round. But one of you had a good suggestion about picking up and not searching for lost balls, etc. It's too late notice for a tee time today but I'll see if I can play next weekend! Eeek! tiff :)

  7. Water and a Snicker's Bar about midway through to give me an extra boost of energy :)
  8. Hi Guys! As I mentioned, I'm returning to the game after a long absence. I've been to the driving range and while my shots go far, they're certainly not as controlled as they were before. I won't even say how my short game is - it was always my achilles heel. But now I'm considering going to actually play a round and I'm nervous! I'd have to play on a weekend, so it's bound to be busy, I'll be paired up with 3 guys, and although my shots go far, I'm nervous I'll be all over the place - whacking in and out of the rough, sandtrap, and water hazards. Should I just wait longer or bite the bullet? It's been TOO long. I feel like a newbie again :( Tiff
  9. It's probably one of the best tools. I discovered that my backswing was going far past horizontal and then I was having to pull it UP to start my backswing, which threw my whole swing off. But videotaping really lets you learn a lot because you spot all the little fractures in your game. Tiff :)
  10. Good luck with it! My dad shattered his rotator cuff in his shoulder and it kept him from swinging a club but I caught him in a full body cast with one arm sticking straight out, trying to putt left handed around the lawn. LOL! I'll cross my fingers for a speedy recovery for you! tiff :)
  11. Mine is the first day I ever outdrove my dad (from the same tee). I'd played with him for years, soaking up knowledge from him, but being a grown man, he always outdrove me. Then one day I teed up after him and both our jaws dropped as my ball pounced right past his on a par 5. Not only was it MY proudest moment, but it was his, too! He almost cried, I swear, and he bragged about it for months (years?)... I was 16 at the time. Tiff :)
  12. One of the best things I ever did was videotape my swing to see where I was needing to improve. I did it for my dad because on his practice swing, he'd make a good clean backswing. Yet every time he stepped up to the ball, his backswing would go vertical - he never got it horizontal. I had to show him on video so that he could consciously monitor how far back he went. With my own golf swing, I'd film from different angles. Sometimes I found myself bobbing - raising up a tiny bit, but enough to knock my shot off-center and make me almost top the ball. Tiff
  13. This thread is great! I'm a woman and a firm believer that the women's tour ought to allow them to sex it up a bit - let's get real, more viewers = more cash = higher purse. When I was young and training, my sponsor got on board solely because of my looks. Unfortunately, I look like the reverse before and after pictue of Christie Kerr (LOL - well maybe not that bad, but close!) After 3 kids and not a lot of exercise, I'm working to get my bod back. It gives us an advantage teeing up and distracting you from your shots ;) Anyone recall Jan Stephenson? She caught some flack for making pin-up posters of her looking like Marilyn with the skirt flying. My dad had one in his office, that's how I remember it - but I admired her for not forcing herself to be manly in a man's game. Tiff PS - When I'm fabulous again, I'll post a before -->after-->after picture for you. I think you'll like the girl golfer I have in my ••••••• lens called best-golf-club.
  14. I'm a writer (non-fiction eBooks) and marketer of my own eBooks about writing, etc. But Mommying takes up most of my time :) tiff
  15. True, but you can look at it this way, too. Utilizing more types of clubs gives you more options. It's always good in golf to experiment with clubs, lies, grips, angles, etc. to be the very best you can be. Tiff :)
