  1. Gday, I've been playing golf for a few years now, I'm generally a bogey golfer, but I can shoot lower when I'm in the zone :p My dad bought a set of clubs off ebay (just a cheapie dunlop set, no more than $180), and I've been playing with these for a few years. I've replaced the putter, and added a sand and lob wedge. Of the original set, the 3 wood cracked, and the driver head broke off. I got an RBZ 3 wood for christmas, and now I'm looking into buying a driver. However, I'm very stingy when it comes to money, and so I'm looking to buy online, as the prices are far far cheaper than in store. Local stores charge about $50 for a fitting, which is taken off if you buy the club there. But buying a nice driver online would save me approximately $100, and this is money I'd rather spend on playing. Essentially, my question is whether getting fitted is completely necessary, and should I simply do my research, and buy a decent driver online? Because I think that I'm probably able to hit any club fairly decently, especially these modern drivers. For what it's worth, I've hit a buddy's R11S driver a few times, and I loved it. I hit the ball a normal height, and I've got a slight tendency to fade the ball, but I can work it both ways. Thanks for your help!
  2. KJ with a bad break on the 17th. His ball lands on Webb Simpsons' ball on the fly, and it ricochets into a bunker. Expect that to make the highlight reel :p
  3. 92 (+24) 39 putts... I average around 30. 4 x 3 putts and 1 4 putt. Shocking. Hit 1 green, and 25% fairways.
  4. Putter, I wonder if this will be a popular option or not?
  5. 38 (+5) 12 putts :o I'm bored, so I'll type up a hole-by-hole summary. My putting was phenomenal today, the greens were a bit wet, I think that took a bit of the break out. #1. (Par 4) Hit a hybrid fat off the tee Topped a 7 iron Sand wedge to the fringe Chip to ~8 feet Putted it in #2 (Par 4) (Hybrid) Shocking low ball flight but the ball rolled for a while, so my distance was pretty good in the end Sand wedge to 20 feet Putted it in :D #3 (Par 4) I'd found a titleist ball in the rough on the last hole, so I gave that a good whack with my driver, and it was perfect. 20 yards further than I've ever been on this hole Fat pitching wedge to the left rough Poor chip shot to 25 feet Lipped it out Tap in bogey. #4 (Par 4) Pulled my drive left, but I still had a look at the green Thinned my 7 iron, and it ended up about 10 yards past the green Chipped it over the green Chipped it to 2 feet Tap in bogey #5 (Par 4) Decent hybrid shot Pitching wedge over a tree - gets a bad kick and ends up on the back fringe Chipped it to 1 foot Tap in par #6 (Par 3) 9i to the left fringe My sole bad putt of the day from about 50 feet - left it about 12 feet short Missed Tap in bogey #7 (Par 3) - A hole I regularly double. 6i to the back fringe ~30 footer, with a lot of left to right break - I sink it for a birdie :D #8 (Par 4) Good drive down the centre Fat sand wedge into a front bunker Terrible bunker shot to rough Chip to ~12 feet Made the putt (again) #9 (Par 3) Over the green to some thick rough Try to hack it out, but it ends up in the same spot Over the green Chip to 2 feet Double bogey :( Long game: D+ Short game: A
  6. A Tiger vs Phil playoff would be sweet :p However, if I had to put money on it, I'd probably pick Wi, I think he's just slightly out of reach, and as long as he plays well, it would take a fair bit to catch up to him. But anything can happen.
  7. Hit a few nice ones yesterday. First one was a ~40 ft putt, with about 10 feet of break to the right. I hit the putt, very nice pace, but I thought it would fall below the hole. I started walking towards the ball, and as soon as I did, it dropped right into the cup for birdie. The next was a perfect 6 iron shot on the 10th (~160yd uphill par 3). It stopped about 6 feet past the hole, and I made that one for birdie too. A few blowup holes, and losing concentration on the back nine messed up my round though. I only hit one fairway with my driver >_>
  8. Looking forward to spectating on Saturday :D I'm hoping Chalmers can take out the triple.
  9. I had a great one on a par 5 today, from about 130 yards or so. Needed to get up and down to save par after driving it into the trees. I hit a perfect 7 iron, which I actually thought went over the green, as the green was in the shade. When I walked up there, it was sitting just 3 feet from the cup, which I tapped in for the par :D. But that was nothing compared to the next two. I'd been driving the ball fairly well all morning, so I thought I'd have a shot at hitting the ball over the trees on a dogleg, short par 4, playing about 300 yards. I thought it didn't have the carry, and I spent a few minutes looking around in the rough, in case it came up short. But then I looked over, and it was about 10 yards from the green, perfect position. That was beautiful. I got out my wedge, and then did a chip and run, which was about 40-50 yards. It felt absolutely perfect, and it just rolled and rolled, until it dropped into the cup. My first eagle ever :D (I've only had one birdie before too :p)
  10. 40 (+8) 18 putts. FIR: 5/9 GIR: 2/9 Played very well today, but it still feels like I can improve so much more. I blasted some drives on the short par 4's within ~50m, and then often failed to hit the green with my wedge :( 3x 3 putts didn't help my cause. I'm getting a mallet-putter for christmas, so I hope that'll improve my putting. At the moment I'm using a very basic putter. Although I did get a few nice putts in today. Highlight was probably getting onto the green with my 7 iron after driving it into the adjacent fairway :p (My only terrible drive of the day) Still, my best, and most consistent round ever (No hole over 5) I still feel I can do soo much better though :p Playing 18 on a par 72 on monday, hoping to get around 90.
  11. Not good at all. 53. It was looking good after 5 holes, only 6 up, which is OK for me. But then my 3 wood cracked, and I went +10 on the last 3 holes to finish 18 over - using my brothers wood. Mostly due to sliced drives and irons, and a few bad chips. Highlight of the round was getting a ~20 foot putt for bogey on a par 5. Straight uphill though. 2 3 putts on the last two holes, mostly due to my frustration from my bad tee shots and approaches.
  12. Epic chip in eagle for Tiger, only 1 back from Day and Chalmers.
  13. Day and Senden (Last group) struggling on the front nine :s Hoping that Tiger can win, shot a nice 3 under on the front nine, and is only 3 shots off the lead. Edit: Magnificent shot from Day - sticks it really close on a par 3. Chalmers - the leader is struggling on a par five. This is shaping up to be really exciting.
