I belong to the only private club in my immediate area. The dues this year for a Senior Limited membership were raised to $499. I get to play one of the most immaculately groomed courses in the area, though it is only 9 holes. The membership is 'limited' in that I can play weekdays only and have to tee off or make the turn by 11:00 am. That fits my schedule perfectly. I also can play reciprocals at several great courses in the area by just paying the cart fee. A 'full' membership costs $1000 more than my Senior rate, money that can buy a bunch of green fees at the public courses when I want to play on a weekend (most clubs are in the $25-$30 range around here). I'm a full-time walker and most of the time I carry. I've got a great situation and can't imagine not being a member...........................the Mailman

I was lucky enough to play 14 times in December, here in upstate NY. 9 or 10 of those days I played alone because I was the only person at the club. I'm 65 and I walk and carry and I hope to get out several more times this winter if the snow melts. I know I'll miss the peace and solitude at least a little when the cart-riders come out of hibernation this spring. The Big Brown Truck should be dropping off my new Jones bag today. I'll be getting that ready for the next thaw..................the Mailman

Thanks for the welcome, guys. Was up early today and went to the YMCA, right around the corner, got all stretched out, went home, got dressed, and headed to the Club. Third hole it started snowing. I stopped after 6 'cause it was sticking to the greens. Still had fun!!!..................the Mailman

Having some balmy weather in upstate NY. I walked and carried 12 holes today, breezy and temps in the low 40's. Had the whole course to myself! I'm back playing after a three decade lay-off. I think I'm hitting the ball better now than when I was in my 30's. I re-joined my old CC the 1st of August and have yet to ride a cart to play. I just ordered a new Jones bag and plan on carrying my clubs most of the time from here on. Playing golf again has been the best decision I've made since I retired 10+ years ago. Plan on playing again tomorrow. Temps should top out in the low 30's.......................Jeff (the Mailman)
