Hitting thin shots, I think I'm casting... Not sure though.

Well lately I've been hitting shots really thin, and I think it's because I'm either casting, or introducing tension into my swing just before impact, because yesterday I hit it thin, but right at impact, I squeezed the club so hard that I cut my thumb with my own fingernail. I think I may need a way to fix this.
Thanks!

Loosen up before you play and have a relaxed grip and swing.
Seems like your trying to rip them all.

But see, I feel like I need to put a bit of power on them to get them up and out. If I just relax my swing, and flow into the ball, will it go far? Confussingg...

You're likely keeping all your weight on your back foot as you make impact. If your weight is back you have two options, either hit behind the ball or pull your upper body up and increase your spine angle so that you won't hit behind hit which causes you to catch it thin. There could be other reasons, but this is the most common.

Also, no reason you should be swinging as hard as it sounds like you're swinging. The ball will still go with a smooth swing and will likely go much farther because with a smooth swing you're much more likely to catch the ball solid and in the center of the clubface. Solid contact trumps a hard swing every time.

Yeah. Now if he's right about you keeping your weight on your back foot you'll need to get a lesson to fix it. You'll gain 15-20 yards from it plus you'll be consistent.

Have a repeatable routine when approaching each shot, if your a guy who takes 1 or 2 practice swings before the shot then make it feel right and visualize... many times if you can see your shot that mental confidance will more times than not, produce better results over time...

Does this creep into your game or is it there from the first shot?
