  1. K-Mart has ladies sets for well under $200. They are great for a beginner. They are made by Ram, or Knight. I started with Rams, myself. After seeing that I actually enjoyed playing, I upgraded to what I have now. They were not cheap, but I can have them long after I peak at my game. Good luck.
  2. I may be able to help you spend some of it. I have a like new(used 3 9-hole rounds) Callaway STS bag in Red/Black for sale for $70 + shipping. It sold in Dick's for $99.99 and has been used for about 3 weeks. Perfect condition, well taken care of, no rips or tears. Complete with rain cover and cooler pouch.
  3. I'm only two months in! age...35 enjoy the challenge!
  4. the graphics alone make it worth the $$. You can do a few other things with it too, but I wanted it just for the gaming. It's a clear as your regular Playstation...if not a bit better. It's easily transported, and the battery lasts about 3 hours. So far, I have no complaints.
  5. I corrected this same problem by making sure my knees were flexed and not straight. Also, be conscious of how you stand over the ball. I hit much better while keeping knees flexed, upper body quiet, and slightly leaning over the ball on the downswing. maybe these tips can help you too. Good luck
  6. Update... went to Dick's today to look at their clubs, and all the CPR hybrids are shafted this way. It looks pretty silly, but it's a great club.
  7. I've got Tiger for Sony PSP. Lunch hours at work haven't been the same since!
  8. Dick's agreed to an exchange. It's one of those things that will bother me when I get better at the game, so it's best to get it taken care of now, while the club is still new. Thanks for the input guys!
  9. thanks for the info. a skilled clubmaker? where do I find one of those? In pool, we had custom cue makers, but I've never met a golf club maker.
  10. for the obvious reason of wanting it to match every other club in my bag, is it feasable to get it rotated? is it a big deal? easy?
  11. I have a Nike 22* Hybrid club with a standard graphite shaft. All the lettering faces away from me when in the address position. I ordered another one (26*)with my American Express points, and it had the Irod carbon fiber shaft. When in the address position, all lettering and markings face toward me and the plain side faces out. Is this an error, or is there a reason for it to be this way? Just a curiosity question mostly. The club hits great and won't be getting rid of it any time soon.
  12. Is re-shafting a club user-friendly, or is it a job for the pros? My Nike hybrid came in today with an Irod shaft. My other one has a standard shaft. Can I order a shaft and make them the same?
  13. It's not that I disliked any of them, I was working my way up to a better, longer lasting one. I started with a K-Mart driver. I then found a like new Top Flite in a used sporting goods store for 25 bucks. Then, yesterday, I thought the price on the TaylorMade was in my range, so I added that to my bag.
  14. they are a starter brand of clubs. If they are actually wood, then they may be older, but "Stylist" brand clubs are still available. check link... http://www.ronsgolfsupplies.com/stargolclubs.html
  15. ...and actually paid attention to it. If so, they would notice that I'm on my third driver since joining this forum! This will be my last for awhile. I picked up a TaylorMade R580 at a local course pro-shop for $159, new in wrap. I'll be headed to the driving range this evening.
  16. Thanks guys. Control is what I'm aiming for, so steel was the better choice. Plus, the price...I got both for $150. They look as though they never even hit a ball.
  17. I got a decent deal on a set of 3 & 5 Nike fairway woods with steel shafts. They will be replacing some "beginner" clubs with graphite shafts. Are there any pro's or cons to steel shafted woods? Will it drastically affect my swing? TIA.
  18. Unfortunately, some of us may never get the opportunity to see what different clubs work well with us. Pro Shops are not on every corner around here. I'm a newbie golfer, but I would bet golf is like anything else. Find a good club that feels nice, and MAKE it work for you. I am a believer that while some equipment can be better rated than others, its the PLAYER that counts. I once took $2500 out of a NJ pool hall shooting with house wood. The brand of stick didn't matter. I knew how to use it. Find a reasonable set of clubs, make them work for you and enjoy!
  19. Well, not totally free. I traded in some rewards points from my American Express card. I picked up a Nike 26* Hybrid with graphite shaft. Just thought I'd share. Drive on.
  20. I went into a used/damaged sporting goods store yesterday. For $19.99 I picked up a Top Flite 415cc 10* Titanium AlphaBeta driver with Winn grip and head cover. It never hit a ball, but has a small scratch on the top. I'm guessing this was a decent purchase? What did these cost new?
  21. I'm in a similar boat. I've only played twice. Shot a 64 and a 70. 9 holes. I started with K-Mart clubs, but I too, wanted something that can grow with me and I can have them for awhile. I chose Nike CPR irons, and fairway woods. I will continue to use my Ram driver for the time being. Good luck in your quest.
  22. ...the newest golfer at work and in my family. Hello all. I started playing about 1 month ago. I'm actually a pool player, but so far I love the challenges that golf has to offer. I borrowed some clubs at first, but I have recently built my own setup. I have a Callaway STS bag, Nike CPR 3-PW irons, Nike CPR fairway woods, Nike CPR SW and currently using a RAM driver and hitting Nike MOJO balls.. I plan to take some lessons soon. I visited Willie Carter this weekend. He has a shop nearby and would have been the Tiger Woods of his day, but the PGA didn't allow negro players back then. Gary Player was even one of his students. I look forward to more golf challenges.
