  1. Hi all. I'm looking for a stand up style bag that is light weight, has compartments that include a drink compartment that is like a mini cooler, a compartment for my range finder, and a compartment that will hold a roll of club face tape, and balls and tees. Most importantly, I want to make sure I get one that has legs that continue to work over time. If you have recommendations I appreciate it.
  2. Lob wedge. I think this thing adds more strokes than takes off judging from the way I skull it or it slips under the ball too much so the ball doesn't go very far. The one I have is 60 degrees. I want to try a 56 degree.
  3. I'm new to golf but according to my studies when the ball is on the ground hitting down on the ball, the ball leaving, then taking a divot is the only way to hit a good golf shot. I have a marker next to my ball when I'm on the range and I work to make sure I take my divot past where the ball sat, never before it. You're supposed to swing down at an angle somewhere between 15 and 20 degrees.
  4. I use the ten finger, though my hands aren't especially small. I just like the way it feels. The grip is something I have been experimenting with myself. I liked this video http://video.about.com/golf/Grip-a-Golf-Club-Correctly.htm and this one on how to grip the club.
  5. My home course has what I believe is a very nice practice facility. There's a grass driving range with no mats, a chipping green, another smaller chipping green with a sand trap, and a putting green. The driving range also has a sand trap you can hit from onto the range. I don't play the course because it costs extra. I have a membership which gives me unlimited use of the practice facility and range balls. I do plan on playing the course at some point, but haven't because it's $14 for 18 holes and I don't feel like my skill level is up to snuff yet. I've been doing more chipping than anything else. When I'm on the putting green I practice 5ft putts because when I'm close I want to put it in the hole. When I'm on the range I hit my 8 iron more than anything else because I feel like it's a good all around club, and I want to have a go to club that I'm very confident with when I'm in the shit. I practice every day for about 2-4 hours. The last two days I've incorporated hitting out of the sand traps into my practice, which was something I wasn't doing previously. I would like more ideas on deliberate, specific, practice/drills that will make my game better. TNX.
  6. I recently started playing golf. I haven't played a round on my home track yet, just been using the practice facility. With face tape as a guide and the yardage sticks I surmise that I can hit an 8 iron about 140-145 yards with a full swing hit correctly. I think this is probably about average, but I would like to be much better than average at golf. I figure you get more distance as you master the game, but how much?
  7. I'm lucky to have a great practice facility 15 minutes from my house. It has a chipping green, a nice putting only green, and a green with a sand trap; in addition to a driving range with no mats. I get unlimited use of the practice facility and get to hit unlimited range balls for $29 a month. I play every day it's not raining, and even when it is I can usually get some practice in! -North Florida The driving range has a bunker you can hit out of onto the driving range, too.
  8. When you say shallow face do you mean as in the driver face doesn't protrude that much ahead of the shaft?
  9. I started playing golf recently, and every ball I hit is off the ground at the practice facility. I figure if I can hit well off the ground it should be np teed up. I haven't hit the 9.5 degree driver I have, and I'm wondering if there's any value in learning to hit the driver off the grass.
  10. I understand that I should swing down on the ball and then take a divot after the ball leaves, which I've been working on, and I'm getting pretty consistent doing. What I'm wondering is when I tee the ball up should I also swing down and still take a divot, but just not as much? Should I still use the same swing whether I'm hitting off the ground or teed up? My guess is yes, but I figured I'd ask because this is a bit of a grey area for me in my studies. TNX
  11. I usually use my 8 iron. The PW if I need more air time, or the 6 if it's a close chip.
  12. Hi, How should I go about getting fitted? Is it important to make sure I have someone do it who knows what they're doing, or should I trust Edwin Watts golf store? I was looking at a set of Callaway tour X irons, not sure exactly which ones, which are going for $350 for the irons. I like the clubs because of the price primarily. The guy at the store said he could save me some money on the fitting. I met an old guy at the golf course today who said he made it on the Sr Tour then had a stroke. He told me I should buy the clubs from Edwin Watts, and then take it to this other pro who knows what hes doing, and will tell me how to get the clubs bent with a lesson. He highly recommended this guy and said all pros are not created equal, which i'm sure is correct. How do you think I should go about getting my first set of fitted clubs? Thanks
