Lets not go that far. I dont particularly care how long it takes me to play a round, but Im not going to inconvenience anyone else in the process.
-
Youre pretty much on the money. Im not condoning slow play in any way, shape or form. Im simply saying you have the choice of how to handle things. Once youve exhausted your options, you might as well sit back and relax, cause nothing is going to change. The only one suffering is you.

Im starting to question the reading comprehension on this site. Im not defending the group in front of the OP, nor am I defending a person driving slow in the fast lane. Im saying its foolish to allow either to effect your mood very much as you have no control over anything or anyone except yourself.

Basicly what Ive taken from this whole discussion is that people are different. Some people like to take their time, arent concerned about how long a round takes them and are just out there for the enjoyment of the experience. Others like to be on more of a rhythym, dont want to spend 6 hours on a golf course, and are also there for their own enjoyment, but that enjoyment is dependent upon other factors as well as golf itself. I figure in the end, so long as slower players are mindful of people behind them then the problem is solved. Thatll never happen, as there will always be those who simply dont care about their fellow player, but at least most are considerate of others. Personally, I could give a **** how long anyone thinks it should take me to play a round of golf. Im there to enjoy the scenery, the outdoors, to play a game and waste another day. I have no delusions of being a pro, though I do hope to improve my game. Im there for my own personal enjoyment of the activity itself. I will always be aware of my fellow golfers and allow faster players to pass me w/ no second thought. I wont allow others perceptions to dictate how I enjoy a hobby.

Thats great, makes it cut/dry for everyone, but thats an exception to the rule I think. Most have that kind of statement, but I havent seen many w/ an actual time period designated. Here is my local courses: Pace of Play Slow play will not be tolerated. Course assistants will be on site to assist players and maintain the proper pace of play. Walkers will be required to maintain the designated pace of play. Again, Im not defending slow play by those who dont consider their fellow golfers, but I also think some are too quick to judge people or have too high expectations as far as a time period to get a round in. IMO they both are bad for golf.

Need help w/ length of driver shaft?
WilsonWill replied to WilsonWill's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
All thoughts help. I tend to like heavier shafts it seems. I played graphite shafted irons for a while, but ended up back w/ steel shafts which I prefer. My current setup is a 64g shaft, and as far as the weight goes it feels fine to me. I was a little surprised at how light the stock offering was, but they say thats to help increase swing speed. -
Just seems like trouble finds you, yet who's the only common denominator?* *Hint: Its you

Hey TheNatural , from this and your other post, you make me think of a joke by Ron White with the punch line "Maybe its me"...

The "" around your "appropriate" pace iacas are the key to this whole discussion. Its all relative. Who makes the call to what an "appropriate" pace is? Maybe all the guys complaining in this thread are blisteringly fast paced guys who have no patience? Point is that its impossible to say what is a decent pace of play as its all personal opinion. The key thing that should be taken away from this and all posts similar IMO is to be aware and courteous of your fellow golfer, whether it be in the form of allowing faster players through or in the form of not blowing up on a slow group in front of you if they are at least trying to be considerate of the groups behind them.

Most of these posts Ive seen seem to be more middle aged gentlemen who are the slow players. 40-50ish years old. Not that it makes a difference, as they may be new to the game too, but I dont think you can say "Its those d*m kids" on this one.

Need help w/ length of driver shaft?
WilsonWill replied to WilsonWill's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Would yall go w/ the stock RE*AX Superfast 49 shaft or a UST Proforce V2 65? They give you a few custom options on golfsmith for the same price so I figured whichever would be the best for the money. -
Ill address this one separately as I think it will better illustrate my opinion on the whole thing... Im not questioning or defending the slow driver in the fast lane. They are breaking the rules, and are not considering the other drivers, but their behavior is not under my control, so as I see it, I have two choices, 1. I can ride them, honk, flip them the bird and get pissed off. In the end, what have I accomplished? They dont care about me as theyve already made the choice to drive slowly in the fast lane. So basicly, ive gotten pissed, made a fool of myself, and Im still behind them in the fast lane going slowly. Now we have choice 2. I can see them, get upset a little, its only natural, go around them and continue on my way. Seems alot are choosing #1, more power to you if you want to live your life that way. Ill take #2 and be happy.

Im not speaking in terms of the rules, as they were clearly violated in both circumstances, Im commenting on how you let it effect your mood. I guess its obvious that tone or mood is lost when conversing in this way, but I have not once intended on defending those who play slowly w/ no thought to others on the course. I think a few times in my posts I have said that explicitly. My whole points that I was attempting to make are two fold... 1. It seems foolish to me for someone to allow someone else to so negatively effect their mood and tarnish their enjoyable outting when such can be so easily avoided its not even worth it to complain in the first place. 2. I think some are overly critical and dont think of circumstances or situations that may be present to cause a person to play slowly. In this situation, it seems that the slow group in question were just inconsiderate and knowingly holding up play, but that is not always the case. Most people are considerate and aware of their surroundings. I simply disagree that there would be bedlam/chaos if the OP and the rest of the gentlemen stacked behind this group had simply gone around them to the next hole or skipped a hole for space and continued on. We are grown adults, its not like a bunch of 4 year olds trying to get to the lunch line first. And lastly, as others have said, I think its commonly a matter of unrealistic expectations. You are not going to get around a nice 18 hole course on a Saturday in 4 hours, I dont care how mindful everyone is, how focused the marshall is etc. If you go into such a circumstance w/ such lofty expectations, then youll undoubtedly leave feeling upset and not having enjoyed it as much as you could have.

Need help w/ length of driver shaft?

Thanks for the info. I think I will get it shortened quite a bit, probly 1.75". Any more adjustment needed Ill just choke up a tad. -
Need help w/ length of driver shaft?
WilsonWill replied to WilsonWill's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thanks for the info guys. My thought process really stems from the fact my current driver is a "standard" 45" length shaft and I do struggle w/ consistency w/ it, and have always felt it was a tad too long. I figured the 46.25" would just be crazy. Im thinking of having say 1.5" or so taken off to get it in the 44.75"ish range since the 45" still seems too long. -
So, Im on the cusp of ordering a new Burner driver, but Im a bit concerned about the length of the shaft in stock form, 46.25". Seeing that Im only 5'7", do yall think it would be advisable for me to get it cut down some? Also, if you custom order it via TGW or Golfsmith, some place like that, do they not charge extra for doing a custom length? I know itd be best to be fitted and whatnot, but pickings are pretty slim locally, so Im trying to get the best I can w/o having to take a trip somewhere to get fitted. Thanks for the help.

First things first...take a breath... Now, again, why didnt you just go around? The guys in front of you should have done the same. Its obvious that the group in question didnt care what effect they were having on everyone elses pace of play, so why waste so much of your time letting them upset you? Seems as if they are the greater victor here, as we are still talking about this how ever many days later. I just cant comprehend allowing these guys to get you so worked up. Granted Im a very relaxed individual for the most part, but if you had just gone around them to the next hole, or wherever you decided to land, youd of had no problems and conitinued on your way w/ an enjoyable round w/ a small asterisk noting the crazy 15 minutes you spent waiting for these douches on one hole, instead of the huge amount of time of your life youve now effectively wasted by complaining to the pro shop, sitting behind these guys for however long and now complaining about it on an internet golf forum. Im not defending anyones behavior, and I share in your being upset w/ their lack of class and consideration for others. All Im trying to say is look at the bigger picture and the small steps that can be taken by everyone to allow themselves to enjoy their golf a little more.

I think alot of guys on this site need to take a big long step down off their high horse. Let me remind everyone, ITS A GAME! People need to lighten up and remember we are all (for the most part) grown men, playing a GAME. I dont understand why anyone would allow themselves the grief and stress accompanied w/ this type of thing when its so unbelievably easily avoided, that to me it makes it down right idiotic to continually complain about it. Itd be like being on a 4 lane highway and getting upset at someone for being in the fast lane and driving slow (another occurance that happens all the time). Guess what, theres a whole other lane over there, go around and just be happy. Same applies here, there are 17 other holes out there, go around and be happy. Im not dismissing the rudeness and lack of consideration shown by those unwilling to let people play through, but why obsess about it and then let it affect your mood?
-
I would say just be aware of your surroundings. For the most part, you can tell when people are having to wait, or are coming up on you. As for waiving them through, I dont think theres a special gesture or way to do it. I find a tree, waive them through and wait for them to go on. Usually Ill just finish a hole and wait at the next tee box. I apologize if I came off as too harsh in my post above, but I do get sick of hearing people complain about waiting for people or getting stuck behind slow players, probly because Im more than aware that Im a slower player myself. I guess I just cant understand why they just dont go around instead of letting it get to them. Why let someone else ruin your day for you? My play usually does that well enough on its own...
-
I honestly dont get it. Im torn on whether its worse to be a slow player, a dick, or a whiney bitch who wont just go around the slow players in front of you? 1. Im a slower player than most, but I always keep aware of people coming up behind me and have no problem letting them play through. 2. Rudeness has no place on the golf course IMO. Whether it be in the form of a slow group whos either unaware or doesnt care about those behind them, or of a condescending blow hard (sorry, thats how alot of those too antsy to wait 5 minutes come off to me) who thinks they are so good and above everyone else on the course that people should bend over to cater to their every wish. Granted I think most players fall in the middle ground of all above, but I cant stand either. In the end, mind your own business, skip ahead if necessary, and for the most part keep your own feelings/opinions to yourself on a golf course, as you know what they say, opinions are like *** holes, everyones got one.

Big MMA fan here. The EliteXC card was a joke IMO. If Kimbo is their golden boy (which he is) theyll go the way of the Dodo very quickly. Pretty much any decent HW would absolutely destroy him within 1 round. He has no ground game, no stamina and no take down defense. Thompson isnt even an average fighter, subpar would be a generous grade for him, and he gave Kimbo more than he could handle. I always refer to the WEC as the Triple A of the UFC. I really think thats a good way to look at it other than the 145/135lb weight classes. I was impressed with Faber but now dont really know where he'll go to get a competitive fight. He reminds me of Tyson in that he has a great record but no names on it. His first good competition took him through all 5 rounds and he was unable to finish Pulver. My biggest fear, and its quickly happening, is that MMA will stumble down the same dark and completely BS path that boxing has and there will be 8 "World" Heavyweight champs etc. With EliteXC, UFC, WEC, Dream, HDNet etc. it is quickly becoming a joke. While with the UFCs purchase of Pride serving as a slowing of the process, with Emelianenko signing with M1 and other top level fighters going to other promotions it sure doesnt look good for the future of the MMA.

Is it a members only course? I have a cousin who lives in Wynne so Im over there every once and a while.
-
Yeah, Ive been meaning to get over to Blytheville to play that new Thunder Bayou course but havent made it yet. Its supposedly pretty good. I just wish I had a couple good 20 minute or so 18 hole options to replace the hour options I have now. Eventually Im hoping to move out to Sage Meadows though and Ill just join up there and play whenever.
-
Ive been down to Searcy quite a few times. Knew a couple people that went to Harding and had a cousin who was on the football team there maybe 7 years ago. Ive never played any courses around there though. I dont really understand why there arent more 18 hole offerings around here. Between Jonesboro, Paragould and Walnut Ridge/Hoxie theres probly over 100k residents in this area, and 4 18 hole courses that I know of: Jonesboro CC, Paragould CC (both of which are member only of course), Sage Meadows and Rolling Hills in Pocahontas.

Golf #51 on ESPN's List of Hardest Sports
WilsonWill replied to twotacosfor99cents's topic in Golf Talk
Im not trying to start anything, Im simply stating my opinion, that golf is not a sport. Its a skill like chess or poker (another argument there). Its a more physical skill than those, but its no more a sport than fishing or hunting, neither of which is a sport. Its a skill for which you use specialized tools to complete it.
