Snobbery is in every sport...I have played various sports ( some at a high amatuer level) and have seen the same kind of stuff everywhere as in golf...for example cycling...I got into cycling to re-hab a knee from a motorcycle wreck (while road racing)...well long story short like with most thing I endeavor in I got serious and wanted to race. So I bought an expensive road bike (Nishiki...no longer produced) and joined a local club that did weekend rides and had a few racers in the club...I be-freinded one of the racers (who had been selected to the Olympic trials a few years back) and he set me up with a training plan which I worked on hard...anyway to the "snob part"...my wife (at the time) and I would go to the club meetings and social events (pot luck dinners, etc...) and we basically could not get anyone to even talk to us...much less offer to train with me or tell me about any training rides other then the weekly club ride...so I continued to train pretty much on my own. Hence comes the beginning of the race season and I placed 7th in the first race and then 3rd in the Tour De Louisiana Stage race in New Orleans...WELL let me tell you that things immediately changed...now when we walked into a social event we were basically mobbed and everyone wanted to know if they could train with me and they all wanted to be my best friend...it was weird. P.S. there were also equipment snobs...I was riding a bike made in Japan with Shimano components and would get weird look from guys riding Italian bikes with Campanola (Sp?) components...well at least until I hammered them in a ride or race...then they would ask me how I like my bike...Too funny! P.S.S Actually that is one of the joys that I take from playing PING G15 irons...in that if I am paried with some people I do not know and they look in my bag and give me that snobby look (like I am not any good because I play GI irons)...I just take even greater joy in scoring better than them using my most awesome PING irons...LMAO!

What would you pay to play Augusta National?
i-Guy replied to Clambake's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
As I read through the threads I wondered how many of the posters have actually set foot on the grounds at Augusta National? I wonder if that would make a difference in how much they would pay if they were ever fortunate enough to have the chance to play there because since I have been there, I have a totally different perspective then I did before I went...it truly is a special place! I have been there twice 2009 and 2011 (both for Sunday's round) and I know that I would pay quite a bit to play this course and think about all the hisotry made here....like the back nine charge by Jack in 1986. Also like one other poster said it would have to be 36 holes as I would like to play the first 18 (while in awe that I am actually playing there) to get my perspective of the nuances of the course that you cannot see or feel as a patron...then I would want to try to post a score! -
Are you "ball loyal" during a round?
i-Guy replied to rjwiggall's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I play and practice with the same ball all the time...I believe this is importnat for feel mainly with chipping and putting...but it can also extend to approach shots and the spin of the particualr ball you may be playing...heck this game is hard enough and I do not want to have to wonder what my ball is going to do...I want to know "for sure" if I execute how my ball will act...now if I do not execute then the ball does not matter but I want to give myself every possible opportunity to perform at my best...just my 2 cents. -
Currently this is how I play a fade...however, the Pro I am working with is trying to have me do what he calls a "Professional fade" by taking the club back on plane and hitting a fade by holding the release more down the target line versus letting it release early to the inside...with a full finish of course...it feels a bit weird but he says this is how to hit a fade...

Thank you very much...

Thanks but I do not have Sirrus...I am sure Sirrus will be covering it on the PGA Tour station...I am hoping someone can give me the AM station as I remember listening to it back in 2009 driving over there from Atllanta on Saturday??? I guess I can do a search but maybe someone can help...thanks.

I am fortunate enough to be invited to the final round Sunday at this years Master's...it will be my second time as I went in 2009...I feel very lucky to have gone once much less twice. However, I will be driving all day Saturday to get there and was wondering what AM radio station has the Masters live in Georgia so i can listen to Saturday's round on my way there...any help would be appreciated...I really need to get Xm radio in my car

I am thinking about replacing my TEE hybrid (16 deg) with a G 15 hybrid 17 deg and possibly going to a 20 deg one as well...let me know how you like the G 15 hybrids as I have read conflicting things about them...but all I know is if they play anything like my G 15 irons then they have got to be sweet!

My first set of clubs were PING Eye 2 irons...for a while I became a club whore and I have owned i5, i10 and i15 irons over the last couple of years (along with other manufacturers clubs)...but recently I started working with someone who has convinced me to pick a set of clubs (get fitted) and stick with them...so check out my sig ( G 15 irons are friggin awesome) as I went back to PING...in my mind PING keeps things simple...they may not be the most flashy clubs but they are engineered to help you with your game and regardless of what level you are, help is a good thing...I say if you have never played PING that you should give them a try...however, BEWARE that you may never play any other iron again as I have found my way back to stay!

Yes great win for Stacy and the American women...my wife I watched the final round and it was very exciting...I also was impressed with how humble Stacy is and I hope this now gets her careeer going...and another 2011 big win for Mizuno!

Congratulations!... The AWT shafts are very good shafts (made by True Temper for PING...I think?) and are a progressive kick point shaft to help you get the ball in the air with your longer irons...plus there is no "up-charge". Welcome to the family!!!

For those who do NOT use Titleist golf balls...
i-Guy replied to Bryan SD2's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Has anyone gamed either of the two folloing balls and can compare to ProV1x: 1) Burner Tour 2) Burner TP Thanks. -
If you driver swing speed is 88mph then the Uniflex might be a good shaft for you...the reason to change would be if you are not happy with any of the following: 1) Feel 2) Ball flight 3) Dispersion Any of all of these could lead you to playing a different shaft and do not just go on what a machine tells you...for instance I was fitted for KBS Tour X stiff (my 6 iron swing speed is 85) soft stepped...so I had my irons built that way and hated them as they felt horrible...yeah the ball flight and dispersion were fine but they felt very hard to me...now I play KBS Tour stiff and they feel awesome!

There is actually a sticker on the 4-8 that say they are Z-Z65 shafts? Reason being I bought i15 irons with Z-Z65 shafts and I do not remember a sticker on any of the shafts...or are you talking about the black label that says somehting like True Temper (I do not remember this saying Z-Z65 either)? So are you saying there is not any label on the short irons? Weird...it should have that black label that at least says something like True Temper becuase that's who makes the Z-Z65 shaft for PING (actually the Z-Z65 shaft is basically an S300 DGSL)...check out the specs. Great shafts!

I game the G 15 irons and love them but I say go for the G10's if saving a bit of money is important to you as these irons are very similar in thier design... You say you got fitted for stiff flex steels shafts? Was that the AWT shaft? Did you know that they offer the Z-Z65 shaft as a stock option (wait I am not sure about that for the G10?). Are you familair with the difference between the AWT and Z-Z65 shaft? Well either way you will become even more a part of the PING family with which ever G iron you go with...welcome!

For those who do NOT use Titleist golf balls...
i-Guy replied to Bryan SD2's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
$Cost$ is my answer...if I have to pay full price for a ball then I buy the Pro V1X...however, if I can find the Penta or Z-StarX on sale I will game those for a while as I find them to be very similar balls for my game...for instance Penta's are in my bag right now. -
Your handicap index is actually calculated by taking the average of your 10 best indexes from your most current 20 indexes and then mulitplying that by .96...I know because I calcuate my own and compare it to GHIN In refernce to practice rounds, I ilke the idea in the post before mine...I think it is only being fair to yourself to acknowlegde on the first tee if this is a round you will post for score or is it a practice round...otherwise you are padding your handicap and that doesn't really tell you where your game is or where it is headed. I don't play many practice rounds but if I do it is when I have been working on soemthing on the range and want to test it for say 9 holes to see if it is ready for the golf course...I will usually have two balls going as I am trying to find it on the course.

Thanks for responding...you say go with the C1...but why? I know it has a great history and I have owned a couple over the years. I am interested in others opinion on this also as I am actually leaning toward the V2 as I went to the local Edwin Watts yesterday and compared them side by side and they each have there pros and cons as follows: 1) C1 - Lighter (but I really don't walk much and want a stand bag just for practicing at the range, etc...), like the small knob (handle) at the top to help set the bag down (helps to extend the legs), simple just like PING 2) V2 - A little taller and I play +1/2 inch so my clubs seem to sit better in this bag and I would assume this makes it work on a cart better (?), has one more pocket and 6 dividers which I keep thinking is going to help with gettting the clubs in and out but if so it was not so noticable yesterday that I made a purchase Thanks again for any help I can get in comparing these bags

I have recently gone back to PING (see sig) and was thinking about getting a PING bag to compliment my new change...I have been reading around about these two bags (Latitude & Hoofer) and was wondering if anyone could give me a real life perspective on the difference between these bags in refernce to the dividers ...is it easier to get clubs in and out of the Latitude versus the Hoofer becuase it has 6 dividers? Also any other information about differences would be helpful other then what I can read on PING's website...thanks.

Being a 7.7 handicap and having not had a driver in my bag for the last two years I say trade your driver in and get a good "strong" 3 wood to hit off the tee...See my sig for what I play...I recently tracked my disctances off the tee (only when I hit a fairway) and after 5 rounds, I avergaged 250 off the tee and I had a long of 279. I am a fade bias player and even though my swing is pretty reliable with my irons it tends to be too steep for a driver and I just hate those big heads. My 3 wood is 43 inches (at least 2 inches shorter then most drivers) and at 190cc is good enough size to be forgiving...plus you can hit a 3 wood even off a tee with a decending blow like with an iron and get very good results. I recently started working with a PGA teaching pro and we are working on what he calls a professional fade verus what I have been doing so maybe within a year I will be able to hit a driver but for now I am very content with the distance of my 3 wood and it has taken me into the single digits...recently shot an 80 on a 7,000 yard golf course using only my 3 wood off the tee....Sweet!

Which stand up bag's legs ALWAYS work?
i-Guy replied to Trader Will's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Everyone that is giving a postive review for a Titleist bag is just supporting Sun Mountain because they make all of the Titleist bags...if you look closely they are very similar. Anyway to the OP, I have owned quite a few stand bags over the years (all of the ones mentioned so far on this thread) and the best performing bag that I have owned is the SM Four 5...if you buy a 2011 model it will even work well when on a golf cart...good luck with whatever you decide. -
Went to the Transition Championship Sunday and followed Chris Couch most of the day...being a G15 fan (see sig) it is just cool to see a Pro playing what you play...I was able to get up close to his sticks quite a few times (at the range and on the course) and they do not appear to have a special grind or anything...they look just like mine...it appeared he had "non stock" shafts (probably X100's) but other then that they are pretty much stock and he had 3-PW...I will aslo let you know that I recenlty talked to the PING rep in this area and he told me that they have eight staff players around the world actually playing G15 irons and when I said yeah but they probably have them altered he said really the only adjustment they will make is lie and loft...he said that PING will not play around with the offset...which is what you would think would bother the Pro's the most??? Anyway let me tell you that Couch is one hell of a ball striker with the irons...he appeared to struggle off the tee a bit and with his putting a bit but with a tie for 5th he did very well. I am a fade bias player (like Couch) and the G15 just makes a ton of sense for that type of swing as we are not going to hit it left so the offset only helps us from fading it too much...great sticks and I have a new favorite on tour (3 top tens already this year)...

I am a little confused in that the TM website says the SFTP is 45.5 with the stock shaft...did you have yours built to 46 when you had the RIP installed? For the OP , I am thinking of gaming the SFTP myself and if I do I am going to want it at 44.5 inches...good luck with whatever you decide But I have a question in that I want to keep the swingweight around D3-D4 (stock swingweight is D4)...my question is I have heard that the weight in the toe of the SFTP is for TM to be able to alter the swignweight for different shaft combos...has anyone else heard this???
